I've read here n there how back in the day Toriyama wanted to end the manga at the conclusion of the Cell Arc, but due to pressure from the studio he continued. Toriyama's bread n butter is comedy & awkward situations, that's what he loves to write & it shows in Battle of Gods/Resurrection Frieza so I can see why he wanted to "retire" after the gritty grimdark seriousness that was the Cell Saga. Luckily for us, he didn't:)

DBSuper is gonna be the perfect marriage between original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.

That would be completely understandable. The tone and story shift quite a lot, at least to me, from the Cell Saga to the World Tournament/Buu Saga. I felt everything since Dragon Ball Z Episode 1 built up to the Cell Saga. The Buu Saga appears almost as a parody to me. Still very good but something that slightly takes away a lot of what was written before. I'm glad it's still going tough.

That last thing certainly seems logical. The only reason he could find the fuel was because of the main z fighters, especially the big 3, they were all wiped out. The strongest beings that we know of in Trunks' timeline are the twins and their energy isn't normal ki, it's mechanised somehow I believe (sort of infinite powersource). I think in Trunks timeline Badidi's still biding his time. I don't think Babidi would let the androids destroy buu.

@Ang luckily you missed a few non spoiler tag usage. I might do the same regarding the series.

As for GT I hate it, but I simply ignore it, canon or not. However in all fairness, no info we have on DBSuper makes the GT timeline impossible as far as I know. The article's statement was preliminary and unfunded.

That said canon I find uninteresting when no incompatibilities arise. I already don't really acknowledge GT's existence so what this series does is of little effect to me. I'm not gonna be a child and wave it in GT fans' face if GT does get contradicted. I respect their fandom, even if I don't share it.

The rumor was that it was going to end with the goku becoming a ssj as far as I know, but I've ALSO heard that rumor was falsely helped into the world due to technical stuff regarding funimation rights, demands etc. I don't think I've ever heard Toriyama say he meant to end it at the Namek saga and certainly not at the cell saga, BUT I HAVE heard him say he had too little time during the Buu saga and got bored with the franchise as well (small evidence being they used his gogeta design in a movie before he even could in the series, leading to a second fusion and the potara rings' design).

Orginally he wanted to end it at the Freeza saga, but fans wanted more and more... Another note he wnated Goten to replace Goku but fans wasnt pleased with that either...

Yeah he does... As he KNEW MONTHS ago that Trunks/Vegeta were getting re-colored...
 
LoL... Toriyama himself doesn't even know what his intentions were. This is the same guy that forgot what SS3 was supposed to look like.

Interviewer: So, Toriyama-san, we need to know... it's been said that your original intentions were to end the series at the conclusion of the Cell Saga. Can you confirm this?

Toriyama: I said that?

Interviewer: well, according to this article from 1999--

Toriyama: this is some good tea we're drinking, don't you think?

This is interesting:

After all the unfounded rumors about the Freeza arc, it may shock you to learn that this rumor is in fact 100% true! As he says in Shenlong Times #2, Toriyama was originally going to have 19 and 20 be the villains of the arc, but when that did not go over too well he brought out 17 and 18, then finally Cell.

Toriyama was originally going to end the series after Freeza. Goku would actually succeed in killing Freeza, then die in Planet Namek’s explosion. However, Dragon Ball was so popular by then that Toriyama’s editors forced him to continue, so he hastily brought Goku and Freeza back to life and began the Cell storyline.

Toriyama intended Piccolo to fall under Babidi’s spell rather than Vegeta
While this rumor does not technically revolve around the Dragon Ball ending, we felt it was worth noting. It should not take to long to go over: this rumor is completely unfounded. Toriyama has never said anything about planning that. We have no clue how this rumor started, other than wishful thinking and some abhorrent editing on more public wikis. Piccolo does get taken over by Babidi in the game Bukū Ressen (Supersonic Warriors 2), so perhaps that helped feed this rumor.

Toriyama intended that Vegetto never defuse
Finally, some fans think that Toriyama was forced (by his editor or fans or whomever) to have Vegetto defuse back into Goku and Vegeta, when his original plan was to have them stay fused forever. This claim seems to be based entirely on the incredibly random way in which Vegetto defuses: Potara fusion is supposed to last forever, but he defuses inside of Buu because of… bad air. As stated before, to argue that bad writing must mean that Toriyama was forced to change his story implies that Toriyama is incapable of having an off day. Again, he just makes stuff up as he goes along, so you are going to get stuff like this every now and then. It makes more sense to assume that Toriyama’s lack of planning was to blame rather than outside interference mucking things up.


Toriyama intended Goku to stay dead permanently
Going hand in hand with claims that Gohan was supposed to be the hero in the Buu arc are claims that Goku was supposed to just stay dead forever, rather than return to life to steal Gohan’s place in the spotlight. Like the claims about Gohan, this idea has basis in fact. Read for instance Toriyama’s introduction to tankōbon Vol. 35:

If that's true, I wish I could meet who ever thought 19 and 20 weren't good enough and shake their hand. They're like the Saiybamen of the Android Saga. ...Poor Yamcha.
 
They just announced vegeta and trunks reissue is coming in December glad it's confirmed.

So I got my Manga Gohans in the mail today. Did anyone get brown shipping boxes with theirs? Can someone explainthe loose arm to me again? I ddon't know what to look for to identifyit.

Non web exclusive reissues don't come with brown shipping boxes. You're good.



Edited: I believe the figure's right arm comes off at the elbow/bicep joint. It doesn't happen to all of them. I have two and it doesn't have that.
