Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

damn that new sculpt is a massive improvment. Awesome likeness!
Sure is.

This was always a grail figure for me, so I'm more than pleased to say the least.

I just hope they fix Jonesy, because he deserves a nice little tribute for such a genuine performance. :)

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

haha yea he's a tad too vicious (and cheap) looking. Jonesy rounds out the set wonderfully though. Ripley is definitely one of my most anticipated upcoming releases!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I’m not worried about Jones chances are it was a “Quick we need something that resembles an animal, and make it Orange!” if the head sculpt wasn’t ready for the reveal I doubt an accurate Jonesy was high on their list.

I could be wrong though and we will end up with a Cat Bus Jones.

Hurry up HT and get this up for PO!

Yeah, you may well be right.. let's hope so.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

With all the time they've had to produce the Ripley sculpt, costume, accessories... they've had plenty of time to finalize Jonesy too. I think this little piece of kitty crap will be what we get... Fortunately, there are lots of different companies that produce excellent realistic cat figurines; the one by Papo looks good. I just hope I can find one in a good 1/6 scale.

I think the cat was just an afterthought to be honest. Hopefully we'll get a better version apon release.

I will haz a sad if little 1/6 Jones turns out looking like an angry 'Sleepwalker'. :lol

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Its everyone's own opinion and taste I know but I prefer sculpted hair as I think rooted hair gives the figure a doll like appearance.

:clap

Exactly. I'd assume the large majority of HT buyers are male, so why they insist on rooted hair is beyond me.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

If HT can do sculpted hair on Thor and retain mobility in the neck, they could do it for Ripley. But of course, there is a double standard for girl and boy dolls.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Can't recall anyone clamoring for rooted hair on Thor, yet folks claim anything but rooted on Ripley would be a massive failure. Why is that?

Definitely a vaaaast improvement.........However, there's something about it that kinda screams Adrienne Barbeau (sp?) the actress from Swamp Thing and Carnivale....I can't quite pinpoint it but it's something around the eyes.......the proximity of the eeyebrows to the inside corners of the eyes are definitely more Adrienne Barbeau.....

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I just like idea some people (men) have that rooted hair makes their Hot Toys dolls "like a doll" :lol Real grownup doll collecting men prefer sculpted hair on their dolls.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I am all for the rooted hair. Ripleys curly 80's mop would be so hard to sculpt , paint and look better than what we have seen so far.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

That's what it comes down to for me, whichever gives the most realistic result depending on the sculpt.

Tbh, I'm surprised there isn't some halfway house for hair - i.e. some kind of sculpted "real" hair. It can't be beyond the wit of man (or toy designers, rather).

She had that long doo in the 70s - the film was released in 1979.. :huh :lol
