I just cant get into this installment, im one who actually enjoyed AC3. I absolutely hated the sailing though and its what is stopping me from carrying on with ac4. It just bores and frustrates me if im honest. So i doubt i will ever finish this.

Why would you even buy this if you aren't into naval combat, it was obvious from watching footage that was more than 50 percent of the game. I had my complaints but sailing in this game in general is without a doubt one of the greatest things ever put in a video game. What is your complaint exactly with sailing? Because you realise there is also fast travel to get across the map instantly? Upgrading your ship, listening to your crew sing sea shanties while you zip along with custom sails to some of the greatest graphics ever was one of the most magical gaming experiances I've had in 27 years, not even taking the naval combat into account.

I knew the game was based on naval, i got it as a gift. In regards to not liking it, it just bores me and the mechanics frustrate me. I know there is fast travel but you have to sail to those places first. I enjoy the shanties those are good ill agree. I use to game a hell of a lot but to me there is just too much going on and i dont have the time to mess with everything anymore. I enjoy the more linear storybased games nowadays. Just my opinion im entitled to it afterall. Graphically its great ill admit but its not mindblowing.

Don't worry.Once you find new locations you unlock fast travel and you don't have to besides the main missions that are at sea.i wasn't a fan of the naval part either so i forced myself to find as many locations as possible at first.

We are done with the caribbean i assume,so i doubt there will be any more Naval parts in the AC games.

I love all of them.

Each one should be different and unique to the last, otherwise I'm going to get really bored.

AC Revelations started to really drag for me because I'd already played 2 Ezio games in that time period, each with only slight variations.

And while Ezio is still my favourite character, AC3 was a great change and AC4 is even better.

I honestly hope we'll go back to something similar to pre-AC3, with a lot more buildings and more bustling crowds...they could still do new things, potentially. I heard people said the Victorian era of London or anywhere like it would be great. Traveling via a ship is pretty neat in AC4, alebit with some problems like having to travel a long distance to some islands at first.

I have a strong feeling the French Revolution could be next.Ubisoft have said it is indeed a interest, and if you hacked computers in AC4,The Abstergo employees shared thoughts on potential time periods and historical leaders and it was strongly hinted that this will happen.Question is when...

Me personally would love to see something completely different next.Something like this:

They need to take a break on the Naval. Japan,Egypt and France would be nice for the next chapter

I love the naval parts. With the crew singing shanty's! It's awesome. I agree it shouldn't be shoehorned into other AC games unless it fits the era.

Fans have been asking for Japan and Egypt for a long time. And i know it will happen eventually as this franchise will go on for 5+ games with so many interesting time periods and historical events.
Playing as a Ninja must have been a huge interest for Ubisoft since day 1 because if you think about it.All the moves and tricks is taken directly from a Ninja.Like freerunning, jumping off rooftops, stealth, hidden blades, throwing knives etc....
Everything resembles a Ninja so it's perfect imo.

We could also see more games from the same time periods and same main character as well.Ubisoft said on the launch of AC3 that they will see how the fans respond the character and if the feedback is good, they might give the character another go.
I don't think we will see a new game with Edward.

Assassin's Creed: Tenchu

As cool as this game was, I honestly feel that it should NOT have been an Assassin's Creed game. Honestly, it didn't even feel like one to me. For starters, they just completely half ***ed the modern day story and threw it in for kicks. The story wasn't tightly interwoven into actual history like AC1 AC2 and Brotherhood. And, my biggest problem with this game, is that Edward doesn't even become an Assassin till the 2nd to last DNA sequence. It was so anticlimactic to me, and I thought the events that drove Edward to change his mind should've taken place waaayyy earlier in the story. All around, I felt like I was playing a game with a greedy, self centered ****** with no pay off until the final mission. Been extremely disappointed with how this franchise turned out with the release of the past 3 games.

Definitely.

I understand these big game companies are all about game franchises but why not launch a new franchise ?
Why not have 2 franchises using the same engine ....save cost that way by sharing development teams....

A new Pirates franchise set in and around the Caribbean ...further instalments wouldn't need new a location setting, just broaden and deepen what is there (including opening up more of the islands and forest that is essentially background only)

An Assassin franchise that actually continues the Assassin storyline and continues to jump around locations and time periods.

I'm still sort of hoping that this is the master plan and AC4 was used to kick off a Black Flag franchise and in a year we'll see an announcement for 'Black Flag 2'

Oh wow, Ubisoft has up a survey on their site asking fans if they should make a non AC pirates game.

Its going to happen !! :D

You're right, but part of the reason the game "distanced" itself from the Assassin storyline was because Ubisoft wanted to make the game more accessible to newcomers. Believe it or not, sequels are intimidating to new players because sometimes they feel they've "missed out" on so much that they don't want to invest all the time to get involved. It's like watching the Walking Dead and starting on Season 3, or reading a book series and starting on the fourth book. This is a HUGE reason why Marvel and DC keep revamping and releasing #1 issues for all their series. It's become a market conception that you need to start at "#1" to bring new people in. Initially, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag DID NOT have the "IV" in the title and Ubisoft was just going to go with the subtitle "Black Flag".

Also if you listen to some Ubisoft interviews, they even openly said that the Modern Sequences were tossed in as fan service to long-time AC fans and that all the data your character finds there is to help tie it to the Desmond storyline.

Keep in mind too that Assassin's Creed is in this "transitional" phase. They just finished the Desmond storyline with ACIII (which didn't deliver on the expectations that both fans, critics and even Ubisoft expected) and tied up a few loose ends on that with ACIV while helping set the stage for something new and big. I think they wanted to focus on making ACIV a brand new and fun adventure without heavily burdening it with the Modern Day story AND making it accessible to new gamers.

I have the same complaint you do, but I understand why Ubisoft went the way they did and I'm looking forward to the next chapter in the story!

You have some very good points, and I do understand why ubisoft chose to do what they did. I just wish things would've been put together better, and for Edward to have developed more along the way.

100%'d it at the weekend

Edward's character curve does seem a little late but after actually playing it through i believe it was the best way for this to work how they obviously wanted it to

They seem to be trying to venture into different human characteristics than what they set with Ezio. They must know they achieved a brilliant story and character for him and are trying different variables to not go that route again and have just a crappy Ezio rip off wanabe

The problem Ubisoft have got now is that they did the Ezio saga so well that it's gonna be hard to top it. They picked a great time period, great character nationality and then from there actually took the time to truly develop the character so he was very deep and held valiant morals and principles. In short Ezio was everything you'd expect an Italian Assassin, one cool customer

I'm almost certain they'll do a sequel to this and that's why the character development was lacking until late, which seems to have been spoken about above

*SPOILER*

They can't.. As another member stated before, Edward dies shortly after the events of Black Flag.. Unless the next story is about Haytham growing up, I think this is the end of the Kenway line.

Oh for real? Is that explained in the timeline or something

I think I was meaning they'll do another game just like black flag but it won't be an assassins creed title

I was getting mixed up with my facts :lol

Some points I agree with and some I DONT!

I really really enjoyed this, really let down by III but this... Edward was great as were the rest of the cast but the sailing and naval stuff? Feckin' awful tripe in my opinion, kept breaking up the story, feck sake I just wanna do the story not spend 30 minutes trying to escape a bunch of ***s. Great game tho :D
