"So I got mine last night,I will say this for 70 bucks he's alright sculpts right on par with the huia/horizon ED209 model kits,Sound on mine is very tinny not quite what I expected there,The whole figure is made from very cheap feeling abs plastic,Major downer here for me was the dome was beat right outta the box clearly during assembly resulting in several minor scratches throughout the surface of the dome..Here's my bone bare should you buy this or should you not buy this opinion,For what it is its brilliant,But don't go into this expecting perfection you will be disappointed I could see buying another with the express intent of tearing it down and doing a complete repaint and address the sound that's what really stood out to me the vid's out there guy's must put a mic right on the speaker to pick up that sound cause it's not that loud nor clear that could just be mine but hey for 70 bucks it rocks and is a great companion to the neca Robo.. "

Dudes. Be careful when unboxing. I already read from other reports that the wires in his arms were delicate, but in my haste to rip off the twisty ties from his guns arms, I think I snapped the plastic wires off. Damn.

lol that is kinda annoying. all well.. ACTUALLY I think I know how it started. there's a unboxing of the Hot Toys Ed-209 on youtube. with 2 parts. the guy accidently put the arm canons upside down. and therefore for SOME reason most pictures and SOME reviews do that... that's what I'm guessing and Idk WHY they do it.. anyways.. NECA Ed-209 is awesome... Wish I had him..

It baffles me too why anyone that likes ED enough to buy him would put his arms upside down like that. WTF?

Anyone else get it in hand yet?

I'm conflicted on it....I want to love it, of course. I've wanted ED in this scale for what feels like forever....and the loooooooong wait since the prototype reveal? God, the anticipation was driving me insane.

But now that I have it, I have to admit it's a really flawed piece. Well, it depends on how a nal you are I guess.

It LOOKS amazing, apart from some sloppy paint in a few areas on my sample. I don't care about a few splotches of paint. These things are mass produced...I'm not gonna get all angry at some factory worker in China unless it's a MAJOR paint error. But the important thing is, it looks awesome. It's BIG, it has presence on the shelf, it's right in scale with Robo, it has tons of little details and tampos and wires and stuff.

The bad news? It feels cheap. It's all made of hollow, flimsy plastic and some of the parts really stick and it feels like it's gonna shatter if you try to move it. It has some articulation yes, but it's not really that useful, cause every time you move those legs or arms, you're risking breaking the damn thing.

It's only going to look good in one pose anyway...the static standing at attention pose. Which is fine with me personally. But if you wanted more action out of this thing I think you're going to be disappointed. The fact that the toes can't move really hinders your choices.

I guess the biggest let down for me was just the over all "cheap" feel to it...it's hollow, the plastic feel thin and brittle, and the paint is really unevenly applied. None of the early reviews mentioned this so when I actually held it in my hand it didn't live up to my expectations.

I have the old Horizon vinyl kit assembled but I never painted it cause I'm crap at painting, so just having this fully finished at almost the same scale is a dream come true. He's only gonna sit on the shelf anyway, so it's good enough for me. But I don't think I'll be handling it that much out of fear of breakage, and the wires on the left arm of mine were already broken right out of the box!! I don't have the kit with me here, so I can't do a side by side, but it really seems like it's just a little bit smaller than that one.

Anyway....I want to love this thing and after this long wait I'm glad I finally have it...but it's certainly not perfect. Maybe a 3 or 3.5 out fo 5 stars.

It'll do it's part and sit on the shelf faced off against Robo but that's all it's really gonna do. Anyone that wants or needs more out of ED is gonna want the Hot Toys version. I'm satisfied with this one, but I have a feeling a lot of people are going to share my feelings of disappointment upon unboxing this guy.

Well, glad to have that bit of forewarning. I'm getting the Hot Toys one aswell so I don't think I'll be too disappointed with NECAs though. I just want an ED in this scale to finish out the 80s classics at that size.

You're right - most (if not all) of the youtube & forum reviews make NO mention of the hollow / flimsy / brittle aspects of the figure you've brought up - damn.

Anyway - I'm certainly not getting the HT one, so this will have to do. It's not like I'm going to be putting it through it's paces in the sandbox or anything..

Most Youtube reviewers are more interested in getting views and advanced product than being honest.

Ed-209 is a figure I do need in my NECA collection, the problem is I am not too hot on dropping $70. Kind of like the "Spider Gremlin". Great figure but I felt the $50 price tag was $10 too high.

I'm still super stoked to get this and to hear it looks cheap in-hand is a little worrying but hey I suppose displayed next to Robo all will be good.

I never took into consideration that NECA would cheaply build this guy I just assumed from the pics before his release that he looked solid and not hollow. Is the Spider Gremlin made the same way?
