It's definitely an inconvenience, more so for people doing this with a debt card. I had to alert my bank (B of A) the first time this happened when Orrhanc shipped so that the charge was able to go through. After that I just get alerts but no holds. BD was charged without issue if I remember correctly. If I had to choose between this (Weta having some sort of domestic banking structure) or Weta having a domestic warehouse, I'd stick with the warehouse and save myself the shipping cost.

Did someone just say they wished there was an NRD? Really?

NRD aren't that big of a deal to be honest. Its a downpayment on something you're committing to buy. Never really had an issue with them myself. If I'm willing to pay the NRD I'm willing to commit to buying. I dont know if that would solve the hold issue that the bank of NZ has or not. If it did I'd be ok with it.

NRD without the Preauth BS is ok...just hold the CC # until shipping like most of the statue world does

Well I screwed myself on the Defiler. Ordered a creditcard specifically for this release since it was the only payment method. Took longer than I wished but got the card eventually, just in time since this has been on low stock a few days.

In the meantime I conceived a cunning plan to minimize costs. I also wanted to get Gandalf and Dwalin (already have Balin), so I decided to get those first and use some points on Azog. I would also have gold status when ordering this monster, so that means some extra points as well.

I did some math first because of my creditcard limit and it should have worked. I was worried about a % tax on paying on foreign coin, but I assumed you could also pay in € as you can see all Weta prices in dollars and euro's also. Guess I was wrong though, the charge was in NZD.

This means the worst possible scenario, now I am about $30 short on my limit to order this. :(

Only good thing out of all this is that I can now collect a nice amount of other Weta pieces instead. The Defiler needs lots of room and $. Sigh I hope Weta does a standalone Azog in the future.

You could call the card company and ask if they extend your credit, say, $50 to cover it.

Why not cancel one of the "lesser" orders and PO Azog which is bound to sell out and will be much harder to get on the secondary market, that way you're sure to at least order him.
The smaller ones will probably be around longer. If it's the points your trying to work to your advantage that's a little different I guess.

Cheers, Josh! Also, I finally went through and added what I own to my public profile and inevitably it told me we shared some items so I had a look at yours. I shudder to think how much you've spent there, surely you hold shares in the company now? :p

Nice! I love that collection feature on Weta's website. Over the last decade I've spent a fair amount of money on items I still have and don't have. I wish. :lol

Nice going Seph, glad that worked out for you.

Unless something comes out by the time this ships, I think I'm going to use to points I get from Azog to order Rivendale which I'll be able to get for $200. AND get points... gotta love Weta.

Nice! That's a great piece. Rivendell is a stunning piece of work and one of the best pieces Weta has done IMO.

I love that Weta will let you use points and earn points on the same order. I used 85 dollars of points on Azog, but I get 92 dollars worth from the purchase. I'm not going to use anymore points until they inevitably do Smaug, who I'm sure will be expensive.

Man are you guys all really young or something? At my age the credit card companies would let me charge a new car, and I don't even ask for the extra credit they just do it. I guess this is why I don't worry about these preauths. Anyway, the no NRD allows people to change their mind should something happen in life. Weta are reliable but SS can take a year to deliver product and who knows what can happen. Once again, at my age health problems are always on the back of my mind so I like Weta's approach. Incidentally, either they never charged me a preauth or it dropped off already. I ordered this 8/8. Maybe its a US bank vs foreign bank thing.
