"You guys (Depp Fanatics) are enabling him to fade into obscurity."

How? By buying Hot Toys based on characters played by him in the movies?

The way he acts or started acting after POTC, is altogether a different thing. It was fun the first time, and then started to become boring. Even I do not like the way he has become stereotypical. But then, does that necessarily mean his fans want him to be like that. Maybe the directors should give him better roles, or maybe he should choose different ones. :dunno I am sure everyone sees that his flims are not doing good at the BO, and hopefully, sooner or later he should come around.

Heck, I'd rather buy a figure as Roux from Chocolat or Sir James from Finding Neverland than Tonto. Like Gipetto, I just enjoy his movies and the characters he plays.

That's what I meant. Not the Hot Toys part, but the "we <3 you just the way you are Johnny! Never stop being who you are, Jack Spa-err, Johnny Depp!" peoples. He's a great actor, but when his movies were #1 at the box office, just for him being, Sparrow or Sparrow lite, he never wanted to stop. So, in some ways, though I'm sad that this film bombed, there's a bright side, too, as you said, Depp is, hopefully, starting to realize that playing a stereotype of himself isn't going to cut it.

To be honest the movie bombed because it was weird, I thought Depp was far less annoying as Tonto than as Jack Sparrow

Who CARES what Depp does as an actor?? You either like it or hate it. Its been that way...hell at least as long as hes been Sparrow. The dude has enough money to retire 7 times over already, Its obvious he's just doing this for fun. He doesnt owe anyone anything. If a movie bombs you think he cares? No, he's probably sitting on his beach (yes I said his because he owns a ****ing island, how many peeps can claim that?) soaking up the sun drinking a bottle of wine. He doesnt give a ****.

What's it matter if people think that he's a better actor than the post-POTC Depp stereotypes he performs in each of his roles make him out to be? We aren't saying he's not a good actor, we're just saying that we think he's better than that, and no one ever claimed he owed them anything. There's no need to get so worked up about it.

:lol "Worked up about it" Hardly. I just find it hilarious that people talk about him as if they know him and whats "Best for him" like they have any clue. Like they didnt stop and think :lol wow He is doing this for fun. Like, maybe see it from his point of view? :lol

Im not really referring to this thread so much since I havent read it all, just in general about what critics and people have been saying about him lately, especially with Tonto and the Lone Ranger, but hey People are entitled to their opinion but I think their opinion is laughable. :lol

He is a better actor, but its what he enjoys doing. Like I said, What does he owe anyone? Theres other actors that fall in this category, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, to name a few. They are just enjoying the career. We all know they sure as hell have proved they are a damned fine actor. They dont always need to push out oscar worthy performances to please the cynical fans and critics. Im sure at this point in their careers they say "to hell with critics".

Well, forgive me, but the Internet is full of opportunities to misinterpret tone.:lol:duff I'm not arguing what's best for him, it's just that I've always liked Depp. From Pirates to Jump Street, and I think he's capable of more versatility than the Sparrow-esque performances that he's been delivering. Perhaps he is just doing it for fun, but I'd still like to see him do some stuff that's a bit different from the norm.

Side note: did you see The Lone Ranger, Rzez?

Not yet, havent had a chance to get to the cinema. Last movie I got to was Man of Steel.

Transcendence looks to be more like old Depp work. Unless he some how makes his character another goofy type. We'll see.

I personally prefer his cooky roles. Sparrow. Scissorhands. Mad Hatter. Probably my top three favorites. But I do like others like Agent Sands or John Dillinger. Just like the more artsy fartsy looks and roles.

Yeah, Transcendence looks good. I like Kooky Depp, too, but I just don't like it when it becomes force of habit for him. I liked the range he had; where he could go from something like Jack Sparrow to something like Dillinger. I'll be honest when I say I enjoyed his 21 Jump Street Cameo last year more than Pirates 4 (though, to be fair, he, Mcshane, and Rush were pretty much carrying that film on their own).

:lecture:exactly:

I've heard many times Depp say that the more cooky roles are for his kids. Kinda of like Russel Crowe's main reason for playing Jor El, he wanted something his kids could watch and finally see their dad act.

Well if that's the philosophy...let's go with Glen Lantz...lol.

Waiting for more pics:impatient:but I already dislike the rooted hair and wouldn't even consider him until the Lone Ranger goes up for pre-order.

Yeah, I mean they must know that Tonto is kinda lame without the Lone Ranger. I wonder if this is really just for Depp fans

I'm interested in seeing how he ends up!

I think it could end up being a great, visually distinct figure for any collection.
