I am interested in the cool white LED light strips from barlighting.com. My one question is this:

I want to light up my Detolf's. If I buy one set of the light strips for one detolf, is that all i need or do i need to order additional connector cords or anything else?

Thanks in advance.

My pic: new on the left old style on the right

I went to ikea and bought a new set of dioder strip lights. They looked great on the store display but when I got home and plugged them in I noticed that they were not even close to the same colour as my old dioder lights. I packed them back up and got a refund. The guy in ikea told me that they had changed supplier to provide a higher quality product. I told him the new ones were rubbish.

If I buy colour changing dioder strip lights can I get the colour to match the old style pure white light of the old dioder?

It'll be much closer in tone to the initial cool diorders but they wont be the same.

Don't waste your money on expensive LED modules, even if you're buying them at Costco.

Instead go to Amazon or eBay and search for LED ribbon. I have now installed a lot of product from LEDWHolesalers and can vouch for their warm and pure white strips as well as both their 30w and 48w power bricks. I've also used HitLights brand with success. Both come in waterproof and non-waterproof varieties and are also available in RGB variety (these take more power and are more expensive obviously).

$16 for 16feet of LED, shipped. $15 for a power transformer that can power at least 2 strips. Strips can be cut every 3 LEDs (just over 2" length). You can buy connectors of just simply solder wire to the strips (it's very easy).

This solution is infinitely customizable and so much less expensive than anything else on the market. You can even buy remote control switches and dimmers at $12 or so. The other benefit is you won't have a load of ugly wires all over the place like you do with the packaged small pucks and strips since you can daisy-chain multiple cabinets if you want.

Also, a little goes a long way - you don't have to use two 1 foot sections per shelf. You can light an entire shelf more dramatically with a few 2" sections.

Thanks Entrails I see your also from St.Louis, where did you get your detolf from?
Right on...always cool to know there are people in my area collecting. I got my first one as a birthday present from my gal when she went to Atlanta. The second one I had a buddy pick up for me while he was passing through Chicago.

If you're only needing 4 LED strips, their kit comes with a connector that will connect 4 LED strips wires into an on/off switch. Or you can connect the LED strips together and run off the same cable. By doing that way, you can run off more then 4 strips using the same connector and on/off switch. Not sure if that makes sense lol

I have their cool white strips, and they are very nice cool white color.

LED ribbon lights operating at 12v are readily available on Amazon and eBay along with multiple options for RF and IR controlled switches/dimmers. Search for "led ribbon" and "led dimmer"

What do you guys recommend for the top of the DETOLF? I don't want to use the GRUNDTAL since it's halogen and apparently that isn't good for the paint on figures. I use DIODER LED strips for each shelf now but because of the top of the shelf, the first row is darker than the others. Is there another type of light that fits the hole in the top?

For $50, the price of that Belkin adapter, you could buy a power supply/transformer, an IR remote dimmer (with remote) and 32 feet of LED ribbon wire, plus have it shipped with a few bucks to spare. ;)

Will these two items work since i already have their LED strip kit? I don't have the multi color kit so i'm sure the remote functions are limited for my kit. But my connector hub looks to be the same as in the first picture.

You could wire it to "work" but controlling it properly will require pressing the right buttons. That's because the RGB kit uses 4 wires instead of two. One common, which may be positive or negative (ground) depending on your light strip (whether it's common anode or cathode), and one wire for each of R, G and B. In connecting a standard single color strip you'd pick one of the colors and the common wire. To turn on the strip you need to make sure you have pre-selected the correct color on the remote or white.

that was my thought. one light strip per shelf in the detolf. I just wanted to know if one set would work for each detolf I had. Thanks!

Yes, but you need a clear line of sight between the IR remote and receiver and wouldnt be able to power the unit from your smart phone like i can.

"clear line of sight" is somewhat of a myth with regards to IR, but you're right, you wouldn't be able to operate it from a smart phone without another intermediary controller and spending additional money (WiFi to IR bridge).
