Polygon spoke with J.J. Abrams following his on-stage discussion with Newell [at 2013 DICE Summit]. "It's as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets," Abrams said of the just-announced plans to develop movies based on Portal and Half-Life. "Which is that we are really talking to Valve, we are going to be bringing on a writer, we have a lot of very interesting ideas."

"And both a Portal and Half-Life movie are things I want to see," Abrams said. "We're also aware of the cautionary tales of movies that became games and vice versa. Our goal here to is to treat the world Valve has created in both these properties like anyone would a book or some great story that comes from a pitch or original script — just to treat it with the respect they treat their games and their players with."

In discussing the game project, Abrams said, "We've had so many meetings and finally got to a point where we said, ‘We need to start making stuff.' And so the ideas that we've had for games, the ideas they've had for turning Portal and Half-Life into a film, we just decided we actually have to start doing this stuff."

First thing that came to my head when I heard Portal movie was Christopher Nolan. Idk why but I could see him doing a excellent job.

A Portal film would be cool. The universe Valve has created in those games is more than strong enough to carry a narrative for film.

I don't really need to see a Half Life film, though.

Half Life: The Movie - Episode 1 (2015)
Half Life: The Movie - Episode 2 (2017)
Half Life: The Movie - Episode 3 (2036)

Brad Bird would be my choice for Portal... or Neil Blomkamp.

I can't see Half-Life being a film.

Neil Blomkamp + Peter Jackson for Half-Life would work well. Combine Soldiers, Resistance fighters and one pissed nerd with a crowbar...

Nolan would take all the fun out of a portal movie.

I see what your saying. Portal is a fun game fun atmosphere etc, but whose to say he couldn't do that? and please nobody say he took the fun out of Batman, because Batman actually is dark and moody. I'm just saying I think if he got a good script for Portal he would do a good job :monkey3

Thus we have our second "Nolan".
Just w8 till he's announced as the director of all new BATMAN!
