So I was just thinking.. Instead of making several robots of equal size, why not make one GIANT robot, like 5 times the size of these monsters that could just squish them all?

:goodpost:

:exactly:

Really good point! Why not make them overwhelmingly larger than the monsters they are fighting?

Please though, let's not have a mega robot made up of the other robots combining. That would be just too saturday morningish.

I would think they want something the size of the monsters, that way the robot could go where the monster goes etc..

if it was to fall the destruction it would cause...
Besides, bigger robot doesn't mean better fighter, I mean the bigger they are the harder they fall. I don't know I don't see it as a problem, a bigger robot could be a hassle for them.

What I didn't understand is why they don't have weapons or guns or something, it seemed from the trailer that they will fight them bare handed?

You can't show all the goods in the trailer... plus, you wait til the right moment to pull out you're Blazing Sword, you don't lead with it. :wink1:

Physics would not allow it. It's a stretch in itself that these creatures themselves are running around.

A giant robot 5 times the size they show here, would be crushed under it's own weight.

Well, you just had to go and bring up science! ;)

So much for enjoying about 98% of movies.

Pfffft, you humans and your physics. :pfft:

Something I was thinking about earlier. I believe the Australian robot has predator-like wristblades though.

I wonder if they're going to pull an Independence Day and launch a nuke into this underwater portal thingy.

From what I gather from the trailers missiles and the like don't work on these monsters and from Del Toro said in the trailer, I think if you can cut them open, there own blood will kill them, hence the hand to hand fights. But I can't image that there are NO robots in this film that won't be fighting with missiles and guns.

Excuse my lack of geek knowledge, but why are the robots called Jaegers? Isn't that what the robots in Zoids were called? Does that mean something intrinsic to giant robots or something? I know kaiju means monster or some such, so I understand the generic reference there, but...

Negative, generic old military airplane missiles killed the one they're carrying at sea.
