Hey, I'm old enough to remember the Star Wars theme disco version. I know there's been dumb stuff going all the way back.

I'm just saying Star Wars seems to have gone full-Shatner recently. Time to dail it back.

Because the X-mas Special and Ewok Adventures didn't? :lol
I agree with Kamandi. There was cheese in the past, but not so much bad comedy that was intended to be good comedy. That Detours stuff is the definition of cringeworthy. The problem isn't that they are doing comedy stuff, it is they aren't dealing with funny people.

I don't love the fact that soon there will be more officially licensed spoof material than actual movie footage, assuming that Detours show goes a season or two.

Back in the day you had Mark Hamill on the Muppets, the Holiday Special, and Bill Murray singing a funny but still reverent tribute on Saturday Night Live.

As cringworthy as Holiday Special was, anyone who was old enough to remember the 70's understands there were all sorts of Holiday Specials and variety shows. Most of them were pretty awful.

People appeared on those things because it was a form of marketing. Same reason they appeared on Carson's tonight show. There were three networks and only so many chances to appear in front of people.

Lucas knew it would be another two years before Empire was in theaters. So he signed off on the HS.

I actually think there is a certain charm to stuff like the disco song and the Christmas special. Do they suck? Well, yeah. But they were a sign of the times, and I think that kind of thing is unavoidable. We're always gonna get tie-in stuff with Star Wars that reflects what is going on with the culture at a given point in time, be it Happy Meals, video games, toys, etc.

Personally I think that commercial is Citizen Kane compared to the prequels.

Have you seen the god awful Vodafone and currys adverts we have in the uk? They are do bad. Tarnishes the image.

If they don't plan to have Luke etc in the new trilogy they could really leave the eu alone but If they relaunch it I still want the thrawn trilogy.

Would look awesome on the big screen even recasted perhaps with Hamil cameo?

Georgie will whore his greatest creation out to sell anything.

All my ringtones go "Nub Nub."

"He's more machine than man now . . . twisted and evil."

The vw commercial is cool because its respectful of the subject. Yoda pimping mobiles or vader popping to an electrical store is just embrassing. A guy at work who's a fan but not a geek like me mentioned it the other day and he was like those ads are just terrible. They re just embrassing.

Oh course Star Wars has been whored out for a while now. I mean Star Wars bloody angry birds.
