Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I feel like I've been talking to myself this whole time. :lol

You're missing the whole point, but......nevermind.

I'll watch whatever Peter lays out before me. He's never disappointed me yet.

Oh, and I was being sarcastic when I asked you about the appendixes.

:gah: Can you at least try explaining "the whole point" to me a little???

I have no idea where the miscommunication is happening here...

Oh, and I was being sarcastic when I asked you about the appendixes.

I haven't read them in ages, so are you saying that nothing in the appendixes happened during that period of time?

So this is sarcastic, as in, you believe a lot happened between The Hobbit and LOTR? Could you at least clarify "period of time" ?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, it appears there is talks. Interestedto see where this is gonna go.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Whatever they do will rock i'm sure

Agreed.

Hopefully, seems more of a cash in.

Yeah, probably some. However, I trust PJ with something like this unlike say Lucas.

If you mean during the events of the Hobbit, then yes.

That's what I was talking about. The White Council stuff and the Dol Guldur stuff happen during the events of The Hobbit timeline.

Mags, The Mike is the Comic-Book genre guy who knows most of whats going on or what's happened. I'm the equivalent to that dealing with things in Middle-Earth. I know my stuff quiet well. :peace

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Just let it go Mags/Weenie. :lol

Clearly you both have communication issues.

Well, can you translate then?

Well, I'm not going to get into a slap-fight about which of us knows more about Middle Earth. Suffice to say I know that you knew when the White Council stuff happened. :duff

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

There's more smoke to the fire than it first appeared. :lol I get one wrong once in a while. :lol

Meh, fan fiction or no, so long as Jackson's at the helm, I'm all for a movie that bridges the gap between the two as it'll be consistent. Though I can't imagine the headache of getting everybody to recommit after the pain in the ass it was getting The Hobbit off the ground. :lol

Though if they're hoping for anything with Christopher Lee, they better expedite that ____ before he's no longer with us. :(

Yeah, some of it would have to be fan fiction to expand upon some of the events that would bridge the two. Most likely it would expand upon what GTG/Aragorn did between the two sets of events, Sauron going back to Mordor, back story on some of the culture Numenor, etc. I'm with ya I only want it if Jackson is at the helm and from all reports it appears he wants to be. I'm sure if enough money is tossed at people it will be fairly easy. Just sign me up now.

That would be a challenge if they have an moments with Saruman that is an issue for that part.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I have mixed feelings about a third Hobbit movie. Even though there may be plenty of information from Tolkiens unfinished works that could tie together these movies with LOTR, I just think it would deviate too far from Tolkiens vision. I prefer they stop at 2 and perhaps work on another tale from the Tolkien lore, like Turin tale.

It can be done correctly. Most of the Robert E. Howard Conan books were done by two other writers putting his notes together. Matter of fact, if memory serves, Conan the Conqueror was the only fully Howard Novel. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. I think anything Jackson does will be the same given there were already elements of this in the LOTR trilogy.

:goodpost::exactly:

Jackson is not lucas is something for some to remember.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Great. And why can't it be translated to film in one go, exactly? I've read the book a few times now and it seems likely. Or are they simply opting to join the new trend of splitting a movie in half?

Hello, and welcome to 2009! :lol Been living under a rock have we? ;)

It's 2 movies because they're including what Gandalf did when he wasn't with the party..... namely Dol Gulder and the whole White Council business that's in the LOTR appendices.
Also Tolkien had a habit in The Hobbit where, because it was more of a 'kids' book, he'd say in one sentence what he could have made into a chapter in LOTR. So there's lots of stuff to mine there.

What... o_O

Dear lord. Three is definitely pushing it and is probably just an excuse to make more movies, which should never be the driving force.

I honestly don't think that's how PJ works, or what he would accept. First of all he just wanted to shoot more stuff for the extended editions, but IF there is a third movie, it wouldn't be 'The Hobbit' (i'd think!), it would more likely be a new story focusing on events between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

Or maybe 'The Adventures of Tom Bombadil' :rotfl
