Re: Hot Toys – SDCC 2012 Ex - Captain America TFA: Captain America Rescue Version

My wife, missed the FexEx guy at my home, but my office is 5 minutes away from their warehouse:slap so on my way home I picked up my 'packed-out' package. (to avoid future 'whatthehelliscomingfromsideshowcollectiblesthistime' I will now pick up my purchases from the FedEX warehouse:monkey3)

Non pictoral review (my pictures are crap, and let's face it pictures almost never do these figures justice--except the few that really sell these, right OMG,Luka:wave)

Box/packaging: Beautiful thick cardboard outer sleave, much like a sleeve holding a fine volume of a thick book. Inner box has a pull off window with siding, can be easily damaged placing back into the harder outer sleeve. Graphics are a painting design--simple, but elegant; inner clam shell holding the accesories typical of most HT's releases: the figure is housed in the IM mark IV style holder, but far easier to release the figure= killer work Hot Toys 4.5/5

Accesories: Metal Helmet, with removable inner workings, just beautiful (much like the Platoon figures) very well executed, nice weight.
Colt .45 non slide action, removable clip, would have been nice to have the slide action, but acceptable. Knife w. scabbard, just beautiful work HTs, same with the belt webbing accesories, quality work just like the Platoon figures but without the frustration of placing them individually on the webbing. Thompson gun, only has working cocking mechanism, but great look overall, nice paint/weathering, typical HT's standards ie very high. Finally the Shield, the rust effects are great, but the scratches could have been executed a little more realistic. No fastening mechanism on the back, however I don't see a problem with Captain holding the shield and having the straps break, unlike with some reporting on the other Captain shield. I will add the gloved hands, 2 fisted + 4 others with the typical quality one would expect, great paint, and an extra set of wrist pegs. Very nice 4.25/5 (the shield, IMO brought down the score a tad.)

The figure: The outfil, jacket, leggings and boots are stellar work by HTs, some complain that there is not enough weathering on the jacket: depends on what scene you pick from the movie, I would argue that this is figure is a depiction of a middle version of the Rescue scenes, the jacket has not been as damaged at this point in time during the movie: therefor, very well executed.
The underlying body is great, the arms have limited movement due to the jacket, but great nonetheless. The legs have they expected range of movement one would expect with a figure wearing boots. The boots have fabric gaiters and look great. There is an underlying hint of his heroic costume, HTs were smart :wink1: and only have this extending to his waist (thereby making us completionists purchase the Classic Version later:gah:) The effect is great. 4/5 for the mobility of the figure.

...and finally the Evans head-sculpt: yes there I said it EVANS, HTs does an admirable effort in my opinion of depicting EVANS as Captain America. My wife saw this movie once a month ago, and when I removed the figure from the box, exclaimed, 'hey that's that guy from the Captain America movie.' Yes the neck joint is a little off-putting, but with a little futzing and pulling the collar of the jacket up, you can hide the sides and the back. 4.75/5

Intangibles: Well it's a SDCC exclusive, and despite the high price $225 +shipping 25 +import/duty fees 35= $285 this is a must have for Captain America or Hot Toys fans: Overall 4.5/5 a great figure.:yess:

Great review and excitement builder for those still waiting for the figure.

The more pics I see of this figure, the more I like it! Keep them coming everyone! :clap

Re: Hot Toys – SDCC 2012 Ex - Captain America TFA: Captain America Rescue Version

I don't understand why Hot Toys made a loop on the flight jacket but did not bother to include the hook. Although it only takes me few minutes to make one myself but at this price, Hot Toys should've included one.

Be able to hook the shield on the jacket is important to me because I want to display CA on the bike.

I got this background idea from SS CA statue.

Cool prop backgrounds. What's the bike from?

So wait a minute. Does this mean there is a complete suit underneath this awesome leather jacket and pants?

If so this is the Cap to get. You get your superhero fix plus a great looking WWII era outfit.

Still need the mask, boots and gloves though

But yeah Hot Toys really could of provided them with this package and then you have the 2 in 1 they were initially planning on releasing. Cant see too many people picking up the Golden Age and this now, they'll just get the spare bits I would suspect :dunno

That is just a bad photo..
:lol

Allthough I will say this. This is another "soft" sculpt from Hot Toys. It's a worrying tread. Needs more detailing. It's like their molding process has de-evolved or something.

Re: Hot Toys – SDCC 2012 Ex - Captain America TFA: Captain America Rescue Version

It kind of reminds me of the Thor head. Almost as if it's not quite finished. The colour of the eyes seems to not be blue (of which, Chris' are) and the whites are not white, so they don't 'pop' at all.

There is more of Chris in this more than any other sculpt of him, but it seems rushed just to get it out...

I mean, if it was not rushed what's with the two sets of clothes, is that some kind of 'Easter Egg' or something? :lol

That depends on the price point of the Golden Age figure; if you have to buy the head sculpt, gloved hands, boots, shorts w/ belt, and clean shield w/ script on the back, it may wind up being more 'cost effective' to go with a whole figure that you don't have to swap out every time you want to display either one version or the other of Cap.

That being said, Rescue Version is the Cap I've been jonesin' for. If I can get Golden Age Cap after release for a decent price, I'll go for it....if not, I won't lose any sleep over it!

Re: Hot Toys – SDCC 2012 Ex - Captain America TFA: Captain America Rescue Version

Has HT ever had a figure with a functioning zipper? One that can unzip and come apart, then zipped back up? I know I don't have one in my collection. Could it be that the only reason we didn't get a two in one was that the jacket needs to be zipped and there isn't a way to do it in this scale? I find it hard to believe but wouldn't that be funny.

All Terminator figures for example.

Yup, but this is the worst one yet by far. Can't say I'm surprised though, as their toyfairs exclusive headsculpts have always looked rushed and sloppy to me. But this is definitely a new low; like I said earlier, it looks like something they'd have released in 2007.

i think the t-800 arnie fig comes with a functional jacket. that fig came with white and gray undershirt.
so far, from what i know its only this figure and ghost rider that dont have a functional zipper on their jackets.

Re: Hot Toys – SDCC 2012 Ex - Captain America TFA: Captain America Rescue Version

Don´t understand this line of thinking. If it was a 2 and 1 and I want to display both figures, I´ll had to buy two figures, right?

So, no problem at all in buying this one now and the Golden Version when it´s realesed...

Agreed completely.

But that's the whole point, it was supposed to be a two in one item as the proto pics are on this actual thread. You would not have to buy another figure, it would all be already be in the pack, just requiring change of the costume/head/hands/boots over....

Hence the talk about being able to undo the jacket.

think DX1 joker. you basically only need an extra body for the cop outfit.

i think form HT's view its not cost effective, seeing they need the golden age suit under that leather jacket to begin with.
