Was 2012 SDCC a disappointment for Star Wars 1/6th Collectors?

The SDCC might be a let down, but this year we saw some good Sideshow star wars stuff: The droid couple, another Vader, Boba, Snowtroopers ...
Some people would've gone nuts a year ago for these news. Some are never satisfied.

I am hugely dissatisfied with this comment. :pfft:

Seriously though, in the way of new 1/6 SW 'reveals', this year we had Bossk (teased and up for pre-order before SDCC), Snowtrooper (ditto), Tusken Raider (sounding like a broken record, here), airborne trooper (same story again), Obi Wan (both teased and revealed - the neutral expression, at least), and Vader (teased in a much more satisfying way than the reveal at the SDCC display). Vader was showing many of the same shortcomings of the initial ANH Vader while not displaying the figure's coolest features, which irked many, and Ep I Obi Wan sported a wonky, angry headsculpt, which was bemusing. The true gem in the way of a reveal was Darth Malgus, who had only been mentioned prior to the show. This figure looks awesome, but doesn't have enough of a built-in fan base to generate large scale excitement. And you can't really count Boba, since he was one of last year's (really, really freakin' COOL) reveals. I was really expecting SSC to trot out something else, and when they didn't, I was left feeling like: :dunno

i think this issue was rampant at this year's con with many companies. instead of nurturing the relationships of the already acquired consumer, companies were busy trying to obtain the new ones. in doing so, things seem to flow down the middle… not bad, but not great.

Well, to me personally, it was nice!
I got to see the Tusken Raiders and Snowtroopers "live" so... no, no disappointment at all for me! :D

As for the lack of new figures shown, I don't mind, there's plenty of figures coming anyway... and since I'm getting two toopers and 2 raiders... I'm cool! :lol

Say hello to the mandarin, ant-man, winter soldier, and the guardians of the galaxy :lol

They don't interest me (as figures.)

On consideration, I could imagine grabbing a She-Hulk if she's in the sequel in a few years. Otherwise, only an actor I really like would push me over.

I meant if he was announced since i didn't see sideshow's reveals.Never mind though,i searched and found some pics of him.He looks both a little off and awesome at the same time. We'll see.

This was a fail for SW 1:6th collectors? :dunno

Bossk, Deluxe Vader, Malgus, TPM Obi-Wan, Ganch, Variant Tusken Raider (nothing carded but one was different and I assume will be a variant). I'd say that was a pretty strong showing just in regards to SW 1:6th.

Yeah, I don't think it was the figures themselves so much as Sideshow maybe revealing too much, too soon -- along with a very lackluster Vader reveal. Definitely he deserved better (though I get we must sound like a bunch of ingrates, haha).

That said, I must've missed the variant Tusken Raider. Did you take pics, Josh, or are you talking about the one Tusken with his robe and bandolier removed (bandolier was replaced with a sash)?

Thanks for all the great pics, btw. Very much appreciated.

I thought I had taken a pic of one but I guess I dreamed it. I did the same with several things. I did take video I know I just haven't gotten to it yet. One of them was noticeably different from the rest so I asked someone I know would know. They asked how I could tell and I pointed it out and they said most likely it could be set up for a variant down the road.

Cool, thanks, Josh. Like a lot of others, I thought the Tusken display was really impressive. Would definitely pick-up a variant.

I forgot the Snow Trooper and the Cannon.

No problem. I thought it looked really cool myself.

I do not feel let down at all. If anything I feel a wee bit relieved that there is not a bunch of stuff coming to gobble up my money. As for the reveals yeah I do not care if it is posted on their site some random date or at some comic con all that I care about is the figures themselves and I think the ones that they revealed or put up for preorder the last two weeks seem rather exciting.

Now as far as Hasbro is concerned I am just ticked and feel this was their chance to saved some face with fans about their horrible distribution and other fails in the Main line. So I am let down with them.

Yeah, I don't think it was the figures themselves so much as Sideshow maybe revealing too much, too soon --

That was my only issue.

Hopefully next year they hold some more pieces back for the actual show. I would love to have my first SDCC be a true reveal of some exciting SW toys!
