I'm hoping for at least a helmet head sculpt because I can use my Tony head sculpt I have from my Avengers Mark VI. Hopefully we will get the full reveal sometime next week like with Black Widow this week. Now all we need is a Hulk sneak peek. I think they are trying to reveal all these before SDCC because they probably will all be displayed there. Hoping we will see the new Spider-man and hopefully some Dark Knight Rises figures as well at SDCC.

Source? Looking forward to the basic red/gold scheme.

The released photos as well as the banners from the licensing expos.

as you can see the chestplate, shoulder portions, majority of the gloves and parts of the arm including bicep and underpart of the forearm are all gold. It has been confirmed by reports out of the licensing expos that it's very heavy gold accented.

He's had three (3) different suits in every Iron Man film so far. Don't see why they'd change that. So we should see Mk VIII, IX and X.

Given the picture here:

There is a red glove that doesn't match the banners and the back of a leg portion with silver accents which also isn't clear on the banners or the released pieces there is at least two. In IM1 we got three suits, two with a painting difference as the major thing (discounting the rivets). In IM2 we got three suits, two with chest plating and accent differences. So I would imagine we'll get three suits in IM3 but two of them will be slight differences of themselves with only two different distinct suits part of which we are probably seeing on the table here.

why do I get the feeling that the new IM director is taking the Schumacher approach to costume design - repaint and add lots of unnecessary highlights and accents.

War Machine - perfect design for IM2 - repainted to look like Iron Patriot, now Iron Man with so much unnecessary gold, look at the chest piece, there is no 'component / part' division between the gold and red - just a paint line.

Just hoping at this point that we don't see Iron-nipples

War Machine and Iron Patriot's design aren't very similar. I don't know why people think that. Maybe it's the gun on the back?

Looks like IM3 may just be the one Iron Man for me, then. Never liked the mix of silver and gold in the MK VI/VII and just want a classic red/gold mix. Then that'll be the only IM I get unless they radically redesign the armour and do something like this...

Not necessarily that exact design (though love how that artist did the legs/stomach), but just something re-thought a little. Otherwise I'll never stop buying new iterations.

That pic's looking a little dated, but I just mean the general concept of doing something completely different with the armour. Either making it sleeker or more organic or whatever. Mark after mark of just switching colours around but keeping the general design the same gets old (admittedly Mark V was a bit different but ironically it's the one design I hate ).

The big two design changes between the III and the IV are the hard sharp angular forms of the IV compared to the soft rounded forms of the III and the more organic anatomic shape of the IV (most notably the legs) compared to the III with it's more aircraft than human anatomy informed shapes.

I probably do need to get a bit more of a praciticed eye so I can appreciate the changes between Marks and maybe it does have something to do with the helmets, too. I was never a huge Iron Man comicbook fan, but over the decades they have done some pretty radical redesigns while still keeping it within what's recognized as Iron Man. Just would like to see a little bit more of that in the movies (or maybe even just change the helmet, as you say). Not enough so that it's unmarketable or anything but one or two armours that were really different would be great.

A lot of those drastic changes are down to style rather than the actual design of the suit and many of the armor designs aren't actually armor. In fact most of them. More specifically maybe I should say most of them aren't hard armor.

I really was hoping we'd see some more dramatic helmet changes in IM3 but at least based on the image shown so far it doesn't look like we'll be getting that.

On the subject of style over design… as far as I know these two images are the same "design". The differences are just in the style of how they are rendered. Both are the "tin man" armor. I could be wrong but that's always been my understanding.

The Mark VI shares a lot in common with the Tin Man design wise. It's not exactly the same but shares quite a bit.
