If you could have ONE piece to represent Star Wars, what would it be?

I actually did this and sold my entire Star Wars collection except for 1 item. I kept my MR Luke Skywalker ROTJ prop replica lightsabre. I was too young to see ANH & ESB in theaters so my first exposure to Star Wars was ROTJ. I've loved that sabre since then and it'll always be in my collection.

why is R2 more iconic than Vader or 3PO or a light saber for that matter? I love R2 as well, but I don't see how he represents Star Wars more than any of the things I mentioned.

Since the beginning of Star Wars...R2-D2 has always been the single most-used image for promoting the license. This is because he is...overall...the most-loved thing about the franchise.

I actually like Chewbacca as my own favorite character. But R2-D2 recognition as the baseline Star Wars image can not be argued. And that is why I would choose R2-D2.

I would argue the helmet of Darth Vader being the most iconic, especially for my generation (those who were kids in 1977) that image was everywhere.

For me personally, there were a few items I always dreamed of having, most of which I have now...

(have)
Han's Blaster
Luke's light saber
Stormtrooper Helmet

(want)
Darth Vader helmet
1:1 replica of R2

The last one is unlikely, but I am always amazed by the people who have built their own.

Our own preferences can make a specific image iconic to a given person. And in doing so that can have the effect of making that image the one we most readily recognize. Chewbacca is my own most iconic image. To me, that character best symbolizes everything that I value about the story. But that hardly makes him the image that is truly the most iconic across the board. If you look back at all of the marketing ever done for the Star Wars license, you will see R2-D2's image dominate. And the reason that I would chose R2-D2's image over my own favorite is because more people that are not me would recognize that image...if they saw it...which only a few girls would as it would be on my underwear...and then I imagine each one would only see it once as they would likely not choose to take a chance of seeing it on a grown man a second time.....:)

R2 is the only one in every movie and not annoying.

I certainly would not argue the underwear statement, don't worry, there are plenty of girls into that.

I know what your saying, many of us may perceive it differently. I know for me, a movie poster collector, Vader's helmet always dominated the art for the posters, especially the teaser images. The poster art was very striking and impacted me long before the movies were ever released.

R2 is certainly iconic, and a personal favorite of mine. I am sure once Sideshow decides to pump out the astromech droids, I will be a very poor man. But for me, when I think of Star Wars, he is not the first or second thing I think of.

As for R2 being the only character in every movie that wasn't annoying (said by another poster) I can hardly argue that. But for me, the OT and PT are separate in my mind and level of adoration.

Personally for me it would actually be my 1/6th Gammy.

but if I were to say what I think represents SW the best would be the eventual C3PO & R2D2 PF coming... light up features and they are iconic.

The lightsabers and so forth only mean something to fellow collectors.

Master Replica DH-17 blaster pistol.

The opening scene in A New Hope always has and will be my favorite part. As a kid I would reenact the defense of the Tantive 4 over and over.

The eFX TIE fighter is still available from some online retailers. But when it is going to be shipped from eFX that is another story.

Thanks for the head's up, JKNO. I did take some time yesterday to check out the options but the main problem for me is I was just not prepared for the purchase. If I'd come across some of the eFX info a year ago or so, I'd have put the money aside, but as it is, I've $650.00 worth of preorders already with Sideshow, in addition to some other purchases coming up, so the TIE's just not in the cards at the moment (I live in Canada, also, so I'd have to throw an additional $350.00 onto the price with shipping, brokerage, duty and tax). Think I'll start putting some money away now for the inevitable Slave I announcement. Not as iconic to me as the TIE, but would be a nice piece to get in 2 - 3 years.

Out of the four places I checked that still have the TIE up for preorder, though, BBTS was the most tempting. $150.00 non-refundable deposit and the rest due once it's in stock. IIRC, all the rest didn't have an option for deposit that I saw and it looked like they wanted the full $1k upfront. Was also surprised to see that they had Luke's reveal saber and X-Wing helmet in stock. Every other website I checked was sold out on those two items, so hopefully someone here will be able to take advantage.

Mines in storage atm but I think this takes a lot of beating when it comes to straight up representing all the movies, and yes I know 3po didn't look like this in EP I + II, but you know what I mean.

I think there is plenty of time to save the money until the eFX TIE Fighter arrives. I'm starting to be afraid it won't arrive in 2012 either...

Stormtrooper PF. :rock Nothing says SW to me like the Stormtrooper. The scene of them blasting through the Tantive IV door at the beginning of SW was very impressionable to me as a kid.

Don't agree with you about that. Everyone that knows Star Wars knows the lightsaber. The hilts only mean something to the fellow collectors. If you just have a lightsaber in your house someone will know that it's from Star Wars :peace
