I know, right? lol...
But seriously - I do think that people put too much time into analyzing and dissecting the whole thing... Me, as a consumer of visual entertainment - I am just happy to have good movies to watch, that's all I'm saying...

Quality? Pft, George has spent 25+ years teaching me to turn off my brain and just hand him money for whatever he craps out. :monkey1

But, Star Wars is Great. Empire Strikes Back is great. The classic characters like Luke, Obi-Wan, Han, Chewbacca, Leia, Darth Vader, Lando etc. are great. The storytelling and dialogue is great. The work and man hours that went into the effects, backgrounds, designs, locations was great. That's why people keep coming back to it, because that was the foundation for all this suckage.

Nothing gold can stay.

Just picked this up. Ignoring all the hate for a moment, it's pretty cool to have a Star Wars Blu at last. It's out everywhere here (Ireland) now, I'm surprised more people haven't commented with it in-hand?

It's perfectly fine if you don't have any discernible standards for your art and entertainment. But many of us do. At the end of the day that's the biggest difference between the "apologists" and the "haters".

Very classy Carl. :slap The changes don't bother me. I'll enjoy SW for what it is and enjoy having it on Blu.

Because the air was already let out of the balloon from the leaks the past 2 weeks. And now we absolutely know why Lucasfilm kept the details under wraps and didn't send out screeners for the first time in their history: because it's a huge let-down and yet another massively dropped ball.

But, hey, it's called "Star Wars"... so it's all good, right? No need for any standards. Why expect quality? We should all just be grateful for Lucas' table scraps.

Put the topic of the changes aside entirely. You have no opinion on the fact that they lied about updating the faulty and incorrectly color-timed 2004 transfers?? Or how about the obvious bait-and-switch with the Deleted Scenes (as it turns out the Luke lightsaber one that they used to announce and plug the Blu-ray release over a year ago is the ONLY one that was really restored).

Don't be so naive. This is nothing more than yet another revenue-generating exercise. It should bother you that there are fan-made HD restorations of better quality than what Lucasfilm wants you to pay for.

:goodpost:

Though they would deny it, there are those who would sit with rapt delight at the likes of Tub Girl and other filth if it included lightsabers and a John Williams score. :cuckoo: oh, and if it were on Blu too, as if that was an improvement. :lol

I don't take SW that seriously to get my boxers in a bunch. I enjoy SW and thats as far as it goes.

Dont tell us angry fans how to act. We have intrest.

That's why we're here. We are very interested in how, and why this happened. Can we control it? No. Can we stop it? No.

But we can discuss.

Really, you call this "discussion"?!? Intelligent conversation ended many, many posts back and now revolves around a sickophantic circle-jerk spouting off rumor and opinion as if it were fact. But hey thats the internet right?

I'll leave you with this...If so many of you (and I do mean the same handful of posters that frequent this thread day in, day out) think Lucas sucks, his movies suck, his family sucks-WHY DON'T YOU GET UP AND DO IT BETTER!

I'm not sure what most of you do for a living, but I'd wager it's real easy to sit behind a computer and vomit over the top, hateful critisicm behind a wall of anonomity. This has gone so much further than whether you will or won't buy some movie next friday. I doubt, most of you would anyway if you could rip your favorite version off the internet for free anyway!?!

So whats the problem??? Take your victim advocacy group to another thread and :banghead somewhere else!

Better yet...stay anggrrryyy, just be careful not to hit each other in the eye:lol

I'm out. If this is how the "freaks" represent the fans, then I don't want to be associated with it. I'm going to make myself productive now.:pfft:

Oh yeah...if some of you were to run into me at a Celebration or whatnot, do yourself a favor and don't speak to me!

But see, the thing is his movies didn't always suck and he didn't always suck. Nobody here has stated or thinks that they could "do it better", they just want his original pieces, the things that they did ENJOY to be made available instead of being "tweaked" and altered to be something they weren't originally.

How hard is that to understand? It's more than a "handful of the same members", this has gotten news coverage for crying out loud. :lol

I'd say more people are unhappy and unsatisfied than those who are perfectly content with the release. Should those unsatisfied fans just shut up and sit down? No.

:lol @ all the whiners who're fully intending (covertly or openly) to buy the sextet on BR anyway.
:nono Screw that, sir. I'm not walking across the street to borrow this thing at this point, much less waste a penny on it. If you're happy with it, great. Good for you. I honestly hope you enjoy it.

What is this "rumor" exactly? Don't just throw a strawman at us... we can discuss facts just fine.

Oh, and it's spelled sycophantic. If you want to use big words, you might try to spell-check them first.

:lol We're not all anonymous. A lot of people here actually know each other... and there are tons of folks at Lucasfilm who know who I am. I've even done a lot of freelance work for them. And some there are well aware of my disenfranchisement. Incidentally they're not nearly as butt-hurt about it as you are.

Oh yeah...if some of you were to run into me at a Celebration or whatnot, do yourself a favor and don't speak to me!
:lol Is this a threat? Please say it is.

News coverage...what, off AICN?!?! Let me give you a little history lesson...about your precious "Empire Strikes Back". Back in 1980, it was a joke. All the talking heads and so called "experts" thought it was garbage with this little green "muppet" and all the "force" mumbo jumbo. Yeah, the muppet haters were in full force before ROTJ. Your so called "classic" wasn't even inducted into the AFI until it's 30th anniversary. Go back read the reveiws, do the research. I lived it, I know!

Next I got some ahole trying to tell me what my standards should be for enjoying art!?!

I'm sorry but can you please inform us on how to enjoy these things according to how you see fit!

That wasn't classy, that was moronic!

Something I've suspected also, but then Yoda clearly says "there is another" in Empire... Who else could they have been talking about? Lando?

The "other" was actually referring to Anakin/Vader.

Originally, when Luke was to confront the Emperor he was going to have help from Obi-Wan and Yoda's force spirits. But they don't win until Vader turns. It takes the combined efforts of all 4 (Vader, Luke, Obi-Wan, and Yoda) to defeat the all powerful Emperor in a Jedi Battle Royale. At the same time, Wookiees are battling the Imperial forces. I know. I've read the actual treatment that was written around 1979-1980ish. But it was to be for Episode IX, not VI.

I thought I read somewhere that the "other" was a brother that Luke had, hidden from the Emperor and that after the event of ROTJ, he was supposed to go off to find said brother... :dunno
