I love them all. Can't wait for the blu.
i just want great picture quality with great sound and some of the matte lines and effects sorted- which they have said is done.
im happy with some of the se changes and least happy with others but its still star wars and thats why we're here ? right?
oh but if han could shoot first ?
I agree that Han should still shoot first. Why can't we have both? A great cleaned up picture but with Han shooting first? i don't mind the SE versions either that much but the Han scene does bug me. It does change his character by altering that one little scene. Put that scene back and the rest can stay in all it's glory for all I care.
I want to make another point about the PT. A lot of people that are older fans do complain and I am one of those fans who have issues with the prequels. But the funny thing is i do think our age affects our judgement a little. I have a 6 year old son who I have attempted to show the original movies to him several times and he gets bored. Guess which one is the only one he enjoys and sits all the way through? Yep, Phantom Menace. I asked him out of curiosity why he enjoyed that film and the funny thing is the answer he gave contradicts everything we older fans complain about. He said that he loved watching Anakin, the pod racing scene and I cringe typing this but he said Jar Jar makes him laugh. The fact that he is 6 makes him relate to young Anakin more than us older folks watching it and criticizing his acting.
Unfortunately for us older fans like it or not, this was the target audience Ol George was shooting for when he made these new movies just like we were the target age audience for him when the OT films were made. We just grew up. So I take the films for what they are worth and I take pleasure in seeing my son happy while watching and enjoying them. it's sad but true. Some day in the future, if another trilogy is made and the kids of today are older, they will be on boards like this one complaining about them as well saying how they stink compared to the old ones which for them they will be referring to the PT films. It's the circle of life my friends.
Everything you just said makes 100% sense to me, I can live with your explanation
Well said
Crazy Sig

My seven year old neice loves PM. Cant get her to sit through any of the OT films though, like your son, she gets bored and quickly losses interest. Same with my girlfriends nephew, who is 11, when he came by my house he was crapping his pants looking at my SW collection, focusing on Anakin, Qui-Gon, Darth Maul, caring little about Jabba, Luke, Han, etc.
Although he did like Darth Vader.
Still though, stupid kids
You sound like GL
See, for me this misses the point of story telling.
I rather have crappy picture quality and lots of matte lines but changes not made that ruin characters.
Not just for SW, but for any movie.
Movies can be pristine digital and be crappy.
I'll take a crappy VHS quality of Han shooting first vs an awesome clean copy of his character assassination
I think you may have misunderstood a little. I agree with you. I prefer the 1968 apes film with its aged effects to the frankly rubbish burton version.
(although Rise is great).
But if star wars was never released I would have been happy or just released with an excellent transfer like 2001 I would have bought it. But as it Is re released and it is only available with the changes I ll bite.
And if I'm honest some of the changes are great. I love bobas redubbing and the added x wings and the changes to cloud city etc
Hayden replacing shaw? Han shooting first ? The two million stormtroopers in the death star sequence! Less so
And if I could I'ld love to sit down with George and argue the toss with him !

That's been my experience as well. I answered more questions from my students on the pt than on the OT. These kids today will look at things I think in just the opposite view of most older folks. Then you've got people like me who are caught in the middle that like both for what they are.
Yeah, just ignore me, i've been disgruntled since 1997
I really have no issue with any changes other than Han's, but for me that's all I needed to be pissed off for 14 years.
I dread the day when KOTCS will be viewed as a better movie than Raiders, or AOTC better than ESB
Has that happened yet
If that's the case, it'll never happen. As years go by and the "OT Elitists" get more and more outnumbered by newer/younger generations of fans who won't really care about "little" things like that, the chances of releasing the pre-SE versions of the OT will get smaller and smaller.

I really don't mind seeing what Lucas has changed one time. I find it interesting and invigorating to a point, but still, give us the originals that we grew up with so we can watch those over and over and over again. I won't be buying this set until it's within a price range I see fit, and that isn't really a whole lot of money, so I may be waiting a few years. Oh well.
Well, yeah. I mean, they're kids. Just because they love the films now doesn't mean they'll hold up like the OT.
Sure, WE loved the OT as kids and still do, but that's because they're great films that appeal to both kids and adults.
I LOVED some really stupid films when I was a kid - stuff like Howard the Duck, Masters of the Universe, etc...
Bullcrap.
There will always be "film snobs" who aren't SW nerds, but still appreciate the original cuts.
Yeah, but if George isn't even catering original releases for the die-hard OT fans, I doubt "film snobs" are even a blip on his radar. He only cares about keeping HIS vision on SW out there and has made/is making enough money from it that all the fanboy complaints can fall on his deaf ears.
