Why People Don't Finish Video Games

I worked with a guy when I was younger. We have still remained in contact. He bought EVERY new game that came out on Xbox worth buying. He would claim "beat that" all the time.

Then Xbox live came out and I saw how he really played. :slap

It consists of playing a game for about an hour and thats it. Probably because he buys so many damn games he doesn't have the time to play them. :rotfl

Lol, yeah that sounds like a lot of people. This is the type of gamer I am: I've bought Borderlands GOTY last week, have beaten the main game and am on DLC 2 of 4, which are fairly substantial on their own. Only now feeling like I need a break...how could people not beat Red Dead Redemption? Such a story driven game. I assume that means no one played Undead Redemption? Another great 'twist' at the end, and funny as hell too

Really? I thought it was a repetitive chore. Boy do I regret buying the Collectors Edition of that game.

I wasn't a huge fan either. The story was cool. It was boring getting through it. But everyone is different. I wish they made Resident Evil games like they used to!

We need more games like Alan Wake....one of my favorites over the last few years :lecture:lecture:lecture:lecture

I loved that game

Another good game is Vanquish--still haven't finished it though, but just a fantastic game.

My main issue is that I usually just play Starcraft 2 and don't play other games, especially since I might play for an hour or so a day, that might be 2 games of Starcraft or one long game (or on campaign mission on hard)

I rarely finish games because of the fact i use gamefly, i feel if i keep a game too long im not getting my money worth with the service but agree with most of what has been posted.

The only franchise i never finish is GTA. there's just soo many missions and i always get bored before i finish the game

I always have a hard time getting through open world games, once i stray too far from the main story i tend to lose interset and then leave it for awhile before returning to it.

but I find it weird when people only play multiplayer and not the single player :huh

I find it it weirder when people pay full whack for a game with multiplayer and only play the campaign and then never touch the game again.:cuckoo:

These days i wait for games to go cheap on play.com and i order a few.

Wow, staggering statistics I did not expect.

I finish every game I buy before moving onto the next. And I almost always finish SP before I touch the MP except with Battlefields.

Depends on the game but for the most part I disagree. I love the Call of Duty games and dislike the multi mostly. I love Gears of War and have beaten the single player on every game yet logged way more time online. I guess it depends. For the most part a game for me is an escape from having to socialize with other people. So a good single player title will almost always beat out a strong multi for me.

I used to play Halo 2 on multiplayer, but the guys I played against were mostly 13 year olds with potty mouths who apparently spent all their free time playing and just kicked my ass all the time. I used to think I was pretty good at games (based on my college Goldeneye and Madden football experiences) until online multiplayer came around, but then I realized that I was just a casual gamer compared to. . .everyone else online, and I couldn't hang.

I usually try to beat all of the games that I get. My longest so far was Star Ocean for the Xbox 360, that one took me about 80 hours to complete (but I did do every side mission and explored around and had to go material mining). The only one that I can think of that I have not beaten is Oblivion. I got bored with it (I think because I was straying away from the main missions and going after stuff that required a higher level than I was), perhaps I should pick it back up and just follow the story. All my others I have beaten the SP.

Bioshock 1 & 2; Mass Effect 1 & 2; Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach; Star Ocean; Gears of War 1, 2; Tron Legacy

I'm pretty picky about the games I purchase - and even the few games that I didn't really enjoy - I finished them. I'm a sucker at being optimistic and hoping they will get better. :lol Afterwards, I just sold them.. Most games I'll hold onto and replay.

I buy one game.....then another comes out....then there's a sale on used games....buy some more....illegally download another here and there......next thing I know I have haven't finished over 20-30 something games. :lol

After reading that article I have to say, I am not the average player. I rarely ever play MP and the thought of them making shorter games bums me out. I loved longer games like RDR, Mass Effect, FF, Borderlands, Fallout, etc. If it's a good story, I'll play it to the end and then probably try and get all the single player achievements.

What the hell?
Granted I don't buy that many but most games have big epic finishes. How could you not want to see them?
