Another thing, too. I wouldn't say the mandible crinkles are due to the heads being sculpted with their mouth open, because it seems like P1 and P2 were handled a similar way. It's more about where along the circumference of the teeth the sculptor decided to start the skin flap.

I'd say yes. The ultimate edition picture starts of a bit overly DNR'D and then settles down to be pretty amazing.

The Alien Anthology is a must buy as well.

I've got the Quad set and, along with the Blade Runner Ultimate whatever 5-disc set, it is the measure of all things good when it comes down to how a definitive presentation should be.
Of course, the blu-ray Anthology is high on my list!

Biggest advice to the makers of the next Predator film: Hire Ian Whyte to play the main Predator.:lecture

Couldn't agree more. He had all the movements down pretty good and it was alot more believable than the guys who played the super preds. I think his length allowed him to move more naturally in the suit. I like rodriguez's direction with the predators movie, he just had the wrong guy portraying them.

What I want to know is why, ever since the first two Predator movies, no one has been able to make a Predator without those unsightly crinkles at the side of the mandibles?

I so hate the way that looks. As much as I love P2 Predator in some shots you see the same thing. AVP had it but the Wolf didn't. If only we got to see Wolf more in the movie without his mask. Predators P1 head to me you could see SW guys didn't do the FX for it. The first movie Pred just looked so real.

keep in mind you mostly saw him with his helmet off at night in a jungle. i think lighting had a lot to do with the realism as much as the costume. all of the daylight/indoor pics of the prop costumes look rubbery like the new ones do. it's more about what you don't see with practical/animatronic effects. the first Alien movie got this right too.
Yeah none of the CGI Bull____!:monkey1
you are aware that all the cloaking effects in the old movies were CGI, right?

I do agree that the lighting played a big part in it, but I still think the suit looks incredible, even when looking at some behind the scenes photos. Its still much better than the newer suits.

well, liking (or being used to) the way it looks more is different than saying the old stuff is better quality than the new stuff. the tech and quality of materials that goes into making prop costumes has certainly improved since the late 1980s.

Even if the new stuff is better quality, the old one still looks better and more realistic.
