sorry. my life doesn't revolve around toys. i got much more important things going on in my life. i'll just write it off as a loss. i'm financial sound. if someone handed me $20k for toys i'd feel so guilty i'd probably dump into charity anyway. but you have fun with your toys. whatever makes you get out of bed in the morning.

:lol You have 12,000 posts on a "toy" forum, you must like them a little. You act as though I prioritize them over anything else. I have everything I own insured, why would I feel guilty about getting the money for that stuff back that I payed for if there was a fire and they were lost? You understand you pay for insurance?

I take care of everything I own, dust, and clean everything. Why not, it's no differant then putting your "toys" in a detolf or display case to preserve them. I wouldn't just go out the next morning and buy toys, I would replace all the necessary things like appliances, furniture and then I could start to rebuild my collection. :dunno

No offense to anyone but if your collection is worth in the thousands, you definitely need to have it insured, regardless if you think they are "just toys" or you are "financially sound." I mean, people have motorcycles, cars, homes, jewelry, art work, priceless stamps, coins, etc. insured, why not your collectibles. It's no different, regardless how much you internally trivialize them as "just toys".

If you don't think your collectibles are important enough to insure, because they are "just toys," then why have any possession insured?

If I lost my collection to fire I would make no attempt to build it back up. I would be devastated quite frankly because I've put so much time and money into it for almost 20 years, but I would just let it be and move on. All that catching up would be far far too big and intimidating a task - it just wouldn't be fun.

As to how much I've spent - never dared work it out.

given I really only started in 2007 its quite cost I have racked up ! I did speak to my insurance company for my home insurance and they had to double check but they came back saying all the stuff was covered :yess:

I bet I can go a lot longer. Hell, my car was uninsured from the end of last year until the end of June. The only reason I bothered wasting the money to start it up again is because I'm afraid of cops. I know damned well what my chances of getting in an accident are---around 2%, if I take into account freak malfunctions (I once had a torque nut fall out of my steering box) and meteorites. Does insurance even cover that? Don't know, don't care.

I would guesstimate somewhere around $2000-2500 on high-end stuff so far. But it's hard to say since I've funded so many of my recent purchases by selling old action figures and graphic novels and so forth. My actual net expenditure is probably much lower. In any case, clearly it's a lot less than a lot of people here. I still consider myself a relative newbie, and I'm still figuring out exactly what I like and what areas I want to focus on.

damn, you guys are in this hobby and you play things like that to chance? All the power to ya then; you have to remember that most freak accidents that happen to you are caused by someone else :wink1:. I work hard for my money, so I'll be damned if I lost everything in some freak accident and I don't get that money back. I agree with some others though; If I lost everything, I would prolly be done with this hobby, it would be to tough to start all over.

i'm not too worried about it.

the people in here preaching about insurance are obviously insurance agents.

As a kid I lived in two houses that burned to the ground. In 2003 500 houses in my town went up in a bush fire. That kind of thing leaves an impression. My house and everything in it is insured.

That's some pretty irrational and irresponsible thinking.

Why would you feel sorry for taking money from a company that you're paying a premium to? They make their money be spreading risk, and believe me when I say that they've done their homework.

And I am an insurance agent by the way. :lol

Explains a lot.

A p***y for having insurance? Well this p****y got 10K+ after my house got robbed last year. If you don't believe me, look at my thread created history...so uh, yeah, I guess I'm a rich p***y then for having insurance. I'll take that over being a broke dumb*** :lol

Insurance is a matter of private preferance. SOme people are risk averse, some are risk preferring and no one can do anything about it.

This explains why one of you guys buys insurance and the other doesn't. There is no right or wrong here. Both are justifiable options based on your preferances.
