Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Lengthening Thorin's beard wouldn't mean hiding his face any more than his current beard does. It could be the exact same coverage but longer. Even just a few inches braided at the bottom would help a lot. As it is now his beard is only like one inch long. [???]

And yes, I imagine him older as well.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think the dwarves look really good, and when you see them in scale with Gandalf, it will help even more. The different looks are a great way for people not familiar with the books to learn who the different characters are. I also think the amount of facial hair may be needed to be adjusted depending on how much performance a character is intended to give. It was easy for Gimli to have a big bushy beard and his face obscured as he wasn't the primary character in LOTR, but to have a main character that is a mass of hair and beard may have been difficult to sell to the studio. Their exact look is one thing that we would like, but to be able to be cinematic and appeal to a wider audience requires some tweaks, and I really like the overall design!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

People will always hate but the movie has to appeal to more than die hard book readers who want everything to be literal. It's got to make money and I don't know how well it would go over if they all looked like the stereotypical dwarf.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I get that they each need to have to look different.

Fili and Kili were a little bit disconcerting, but easy to ignore because they are side characters. Thorin on the other hand is to central to the plot for me to ignore. He needs a longer beard. I didn't say fuller and more concealing, I say longer. Although I would like him older as well, I can let that go.

That beard is just not working for me. Could be a modern day Doctor or lawyer.

:rotfl

I just can't wait to see them in motion. Some of the weapons they have are far cooler than just an assortment of axes. Bofur, Bifur and Bombur could be really bizarre in fight sequences!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I would really like to get a desktop of all of the dwarves together.

Edit - Also...I really want Sideshow to continue the 1:6 scale figures.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Try setting it as fit to screen and it should help.

For some reason it's trying to fit it in by suishing the picture sideways. I can't seem to get it to shrink it where it will fit across the screen then I'll fill in the blank parts. I've never set a picture like this, I've always used sized wallpaper. I just can't seem to find where I can adjust it. It's not giving me that option.

Did you save it to your computer first or try to set it as the wallpaper straight from the internet. I tried to set it from the internet and I could not. Then I saved Pixeltwin's pic to my hard drive, opened it and set it as the wallpaper and it worked great!

Of course, the top and bottom are black. I wan to try to find something like Robodad's map to fill in the blank area. Maybe I will use the screen shot of Billbo during the party at his house as the "backdrop" for this group shot of the dwarves.

Yup, that's what I did. I didn't save it. I'll try that! Thanks!
