X-Men: First Class

You didn't feel that way about this movie at the end because it's not something that you can rejoice over. You see the beginning of 2 friends going their separate ways, not really a theme to be excited about. It is however a great origin story and was told in a very good way. As fans know what it will eventually lead to and I feel that they did a great job in making me care about all of characters involved.

Well, yeah its not something thats gonna be a happy ever after. I just mean that after Iron Man 1/2 and Thor I was ready to turn around and pay to see it again that night. I didn't feel that at all with this. I'll buy it on blu and watch it several times as long as I own it but just a different feeling.

Given the time and the way that a man with Shaw's power would have treated women I don't really see how they could have used her differently, she was basically shoulder candy back in the Dark Phoenix Saga as well and only came into her own really later on. January Jones definitely wasn't the right person for it, I wish they had kept Alice Eve or casted her over Jones because she would have at least been sexy in the role.

Well, the way they used her I agree. I just think she was nothing more than nice to look at. The just walked away feeling wanting same way I did with Blackbeard.

While I think this movie is solid and enjoyed it a great deal I just didnt walk out of it feeling the same way I did with Thor.

I agree. I loved X Men FC and Thor. I am excited for two strong comic showings hoping the other two follow suit. That said, the two pieces I found to be stronger in Thor than FC was:

1) Fassbender was excellent as Magneto BUT Hiddleston owned Loki.
2) The dynamic between Thor, Odin and Loki was stronger than Magneto and Xavier.

Like I said I feel very strong about GL and Cap even more so now than I did yesterday.

Fassbender did really well I'd say he owned that roll. Maybe not to the same level as Hiddleston with Loki but both very good.

I like what I am seeing from GL thus far. I don't think Cap's marketing is full steam with Thor and XFC in theaters. I haven't lost hope with two strong showings by Marvel this far.

Realizing how much Erik accepted her and Charles accepted her hiding that she felt betrayed even more than Charles would have. He had Moira and his X-Men to care for him while the only person in her entire life who accepted her as she really was gave her the opportunity to come with him and be herself and just that excitement for the chance to not hide behind a shroud was more tempting than anything. She left with Charles' blessing even in him breaking his only promise to never read her mind.

He used his power to manipulate Shaw, paralyze him. If he released Shaw even to knock out Erick then Shaw could kill Erik. Even for a moment. We saw how fast he could do this in his attack on the CIA, it wouldn't take but a second to be free for him to kill Erik. Not to mention releasing Shaw and then grabbing Erik would mean that Shaw could have taken that moment to nab the helmet and have an easy target. He was hoping that like Erik did when originally going to leave that he would choose the right thing instead of the vengeful thing and obviously he didn't.

Just watched this movie yesterday and it's awesome. Great casting for Xavier magneto and shaw. These 3 really bring out the feel of their respective characters lol. The pacing for the movie is also great.
Oh and btw don't wait up on the credits .... U guys can leave the theatre after the full magneto reveal ...cheers

The first X-Men film is on FX right now and it's shocking how the opening to X-Men: First Class mimics the opening to X-Men 1. There are subtle differences be overall it's a goddamn mirror. Singer wasn't ____ing around when he was taking this thing back and connecting it. Even down to the damage to the fence and the way Erik is stopped. Also this film curiously completely negates Jean Grey's speech given that the government already knew about Mutants existing....it is a strange piece that connects yet disconnects at the same time.

Well Box Office Mojo says this:

That First Class still made $21 million on its first day could be seen as a sign of the franchise's popularity.

Trajectory: If First Class is like similar titles, its Friday gross points to a weekend close to $54 million

Really the word of mouth I think will lead to a dropoff that isn't so severe in week 2. I mean both The Hangover II and Kung Fu Panda saw drops, The Hangover a free fall really at 65% but I think that Fox will give this one a greenlight for number two watching it's progress.

Fox knows that Mutants are moneymakers, they'll keep coming back to the well, Hell Wolverine was widely panned by critics and fans alike and it's still getting a sequel. Considering there are no toys or real marketing tie-ins with X-Men: First Class and the commercials aren't really aired all that much I would say that it did pretty well. Most analysts are saying $60 million in opening weekend is the bar for success in the comic world and this should just reach that I think.

I thought Jones did ok with what she had. My biggest complaint about her is she felt like a robot at times and she didn't seem cold enough. She seemed uninterested but not an uber snobbish, heartless _____ like in the comics. I'll agree though Alice Eve probably would have been better and I was crushed at first when I heard she had been replaced but I don't thin January is as awefull as some make her out to be.

Well I'll say this, that most of the cast was so well casted and acted that she sticks out more than I think she normally would have. When you have her amongst McAvoy and Fassbender and even Bacon in this film, she comes out rather stale.

Vaughn shot the opening just like X1, scene for scene on his own to show a possible connect to the previous films. Yet he has said this is a reboot, while Donner at Fox said it's a reimagining. Still Vaughn seems to be set to make his own mark by going on it's own path if there is a sequel.

Hopefully this movie has legs, because we deserve more of these after the last couple of X-Men films.

Interesting. The thing is beyond that it goes into a different realm and makes connections possible but not exact. I really hope we get another, I'm interested to see where Vaughn goes.
