The calices appear unfinished so I take it that HT started on those later, but not after the announcement of EB's accessories.

I agree, though now that I think about it, HT probably showed the chalices to sway buyers not to get the EB Jack Sparrow for the cups. The chalices appears to be at the unpainted resin stage and is said to be included Angelica. Why show the Chalice at an early stage without Angelica?
The cups are an important element in the movie so I can see them thinking that if they don't show the chalices now, people would switch to the EB version.

That's biggest problem, I think. For me, I'd rather wait to see in hand photos of both before deciding. Neither sway me enough at this point to preorder.
Maybe HT could stick in the chalices as an exclusive or something, like the telescope. I won't be getting Angelica either.

you could always just get the HT Jack and wait for Toy Anxiety to part out Angelica and get the calices from TA

I'm not keen on the talking idea mostly because of the three talking Jacks I have two sound nothing like him; the lines they say aren't even his. The third I haven't heard because I can't get his coat off far enough to change the batteries.
Unless EB is using actual lines from the movie in Johnny Depp's voice, I see no point in the talking feature. Even with JD's voice, I don't get the need for it. If EB needs a gimmick, how about more accessories or something that HT isn't including with their Jack?
I'm still hoping the in hand pics come in before I cancel my DX HT. I'm really impressed by this headsculpt. Since the price is high, I doubt you can find a parted head on ebay. I really dont care about all the other HT accessories beside the rudder so I'll pick one of those up loose. The only deciding factor for me is if the final piece really looks like this proto.
