Ok, after a couple of minutes of thought, I'm no longer wigging out over articulation. I guess for $300, I expected a movable head, legs and tail.
That said, yes, I'm a completist and yes, I'll be getting this set--most likely from a retailer though as I think I'll save more money going that route than what the Reward Points would equate to.

It would be nice to get two Dewbacks, plus the Sandtrooper to display with the four other SSC Sandtroopers I already have, but man finding shelf space for just one Dewback is going to be hard enough. Not too mention a big chunk of change out of my wallet. I guess I'll just stick with one for now.

After some thought, for me I think the fact that it's (apparently) made of polystone is more of an issue than the lack of articulation. You can't "play" with a giant polystone statue. It's too heavy and too fragile. This is basically a (very cool looking) stand that's going to have to stay up on the shelf.
And no, I don't really play with my figures, but I do like to move them around and put them in various poses from time to time.

It sure looks like Polystone in the pictures and for 300 bucks it ought to be. Looks nice but the price and the size make it a pass for me

Not sure why having a mixed media like this: I mean a poseable figure and a polystone fixed statue. Not sure how the joints on the dewback could have been made but still rotocast could have been an option too.
As I said I'll stick with the Gentle Giant Dewback, it is superb.

WIll be pre order ingthe sandtrooper but the dewback is a easy pass for me. first one, way to expensive for a statue. will wait when i can use my rewards and sideshow card to get it under 200 including shipping.
I used to have the GG Dewback statue. Awesome, heavy piece. Just a bit too small for my tastes, especially the trooper. But then I dropped and broke it and that was that. Put a gouge in the hardwood floors, no less. Never acquired another one. I could have sworn it originally retailed for under $200.

If it was plastic then it would be $200 or less and if it is plastic then its
way overpriced.
A good indication that its polystone is the base , if it was plastic it would most likely be removable and from the pictures I saw the base
is perminatly attached .
Its a nicely detailed piece but my shelves cannot support the weight of a heavy polystone piece which this will be and I'm not paying $300
for a glorified stand especially with 3 other figures in the pipline for me .

It's actually a pretty decent price for a statue (I can't see another company putting out a similarly sized statue like this for much less these days -- just look at what Gentle Giant is charging). But I can understand not wanting a statue if that's not what you collect.

SSC has gone from value price to stupid expensive to crazy expensive. Really think they went from giving people items of value at a fair price to looking for the insanely rich or the saps that don't care if they're in debt or blowing their kids savings.
I want these items as much as anybody, but in this economy where I haven't seen a pay raise (and actually have been furloughed and forced to contribution 4% of my salary more to my pension plan) in at least 3 years, I just can't find any way in the world to justify paying these prices on a regular basis.
Its gone from 1 figure a month as a value conscious entertainment expense to feeling absolutely guilty and foolhardy when I buy 1 per quarter.
I want these items as much as anybody, but in this economy where I haven't seen a pay raise (and actually have been furloughed and forced to contribution 4% of my salary more to my pension plan) in at least 3 years, I just can't find any way in the world to justify paying these prices on a regular basis.

For anyone who collects SW environments the Dewback is a must have, more than any other environment. That doesn't make it affordable for everyone of course, but the complaints about its lack of articulation seem strange given that SSC has been producing 1/6 SW creatures for five years now and none of them have been poseable.
I'd be absolutely fine with tauntauns made the exact same way. As long as they have mixed media saddles and bridles that's all that really matters.

My own economics, and I would guess its the same for many others here, is with the prices of food and gas going up, my paycheck going down via higher taxes and my employer cutbacks, I have less money to spend on frivolous items like toys and statues. So for SSC to continually raise their prices just doesn't connect with me. I understand they need to eat, but I just don't think their prices are in tune with reality.
I think they're counting on regular people to make stupid financial choices as I don't think they could rely on the rich to keep this line going.
