Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Sounds like SS is definitely looking at combining the Hobbits in the maquette line....something most of us have suspected. But it looks like that isn't going to happen with the PF's. It appears they'll be going solo, or not at all.

This has to be one of Seaward's Hobbit questions. :lol I'm not sure about that "very little physical feedback" comment though....I post at least 3-4 Hobbits questions/week and I know my "we need the Hobbits in PF" comments were recently received by all members of SS's prod. team. But if they want a mail-in campaign...count me in!

I think if we can organize and work in concert with StatueForum and the WetaCollectors board, we can drum up support. I would like to see what we can do that would generate a form letter for folks that can be e-mailed as well as mailed that lets Sideshow know about their desire for the Hobbits, but also shows our passion for LOTR as a whole. I have some business meetings this morning, but rote work for the rest of the week, so I would hope we can have a campaign up and running before the end of the week!

We'll keep letting them know how important the Hobbits are, but it sounds like we might need to refocus a little bit!!

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

It appears that SS extends Flex-Payments for 5 months for higher end items, so I would definitely be on board for a PF Sauron. I'll never part with my SSW Sauron, but imagine the detail that could be captured in PF scale, not to mention he would have a cloth cape. All these ambitious projects that are taking shape (Sauron PF, RWOS PF, Cave Troll PF ?...) are gonna make 2012 pretty interesting. The only thing that might save my wallet is the end of the Mayan calendar. :lol

Even is Sauron isn't true 1/4 scale (as he would be four feet tall) a larger scale Sauron that went will with the Premium Format line and captured the PF elements like the cloth cape would be great. So Sauron PF, the Ringwraith on Steed PF (which I hope we see soon) and the possible cave troll can mean murder on a wallet. Let's hope that some raises or bonuses are in the future for all of us at work!!

Looks like SS has answered more of our LOTR-related questions....#'s 1, 2, and 4 are mine. :yess:

Question : Sideshow, in two of your 2009 “Ask Sideshow’ segments [July 9th & Sept. 9th] you confirmed that a Ringwraith Premium Format was in the works. We have heard nothing about this project since then. We have however, seen the Morgul Lord Premium Format. Are we to assume the Ringwraith PF you confirmed last year is, in fact, the Morgul Lord PF? Or is there a Ringwraith PF still in the works. Hopeful Sideshow knows the difference between a Morgul Lord and Ringwraith….

Answer : No, the Morgul Lord PF and Ringwraith PF are separate projects. We haven’t been able to share about the Ringwraith PF yet, because we’re still rather early in the sculpture process. It’s a BIG, ambitious project, and will be phenomenal if all goes according to plan.

Question : I think your creative team should really be commended in the way they have approached the new LOTR maquette line. Obviously a lot of thought and consideration has gone into the execution of this line! We can’t wait to see what’s next after first 6 or so that we’ve seen in progress – any hints? Or even more photos of Arwen, Gimli & Boromir would be appreciated! – AND – Has Sideshow decided which characters will be produced as part of a “second wave” of LOTR statues? And if so, do they include any of the following characters: Faramir, Eomer, Denethor,or Haldir? And whichever characters are in the planning stage? I think I can speak for all LOTR fans when I say none of us will be upset should you decide to post more conceptual drawings for us to drool over!

Answer : Major, major thanks. We’ll share your feedback with all involved! You’ll see more of Arwen and Gimli soon, and Boromir shortly after. Faramir and Eomer have been designed (and they look great). Denethor and Haldir will wait for further down the road. We’ll see about sharing more of the design work with you soon!

Question : Is there a chance of seeing a Twilight Wraith in Premium Format, whether the Witchking or one of the other Ringwraiths? Same thing for the maquette line – could it appear in that form?

Answer : Yes, the Twilight Ringwraith is a real possibility for the PF line, but not an actively planned product. He’s more likely to appear in the statue series first.

Question : Is the Lord of the Rings diorama line still active? Collectors have had no new releases or previews for a very long time. – AND – I’m a huge fan of the LOTR Diorama line.Do you plan on continuing this line, and what can we expect to see, if so? – AND – I think it safe to say with three of your last five LOTR dioramas still available a significant amount of time after they first went up for pre-order Sideshow must be somewhat disappointed in the overall sales of this specific line. Is it going to be the third LOTR line to “bite the dust”? If so, how long before that axing occurs?

Answer : The diorama line has more or less transitioned into the LOTR statue series, which currently has excellent momentum. Our designers and sculptors are greatly enjoying the freedom of working on statues, where they can really design for iconic presentations of ALL characters, rather than working from scene specific events and related limitations.

I was expecting about the obvious end of the dio line. Nothing new there. However, I am very happy to hear that sideshow will give us a Faramir and Eomer.:D

2011 is off to a great start for LOTR. It's very much appreciated that Sideshow is offering so much info lately. A little regular communication goes a long way.:duff

Absolutely! I posted the same thing yesterday and that was before hearing the news of Faramir and Eomer maquettes on the way shortly...this just keeps on getting better! And yes, it's amazing what a little communication can accomplish. :lecture

Yeah, I'm pretty pumped about this one myself. Looks like 2011 is going to be a GREAT year for LOTR collectors all around. :yess:

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

Lots of great answers in those questions. I'm pumped.

I know, I had to pinch myself because I thought I was dreaming....:wink1:

I didn't get into the SSW line until 2003 so I missed the first little bit of it but all the news of the The Hobbit and the way news is coming in for this. Makes me feel like I did several years ago.

Re: LOTR 'Ask Sidsehow" Questions 14/06/10

No doubt, it would be extremely difficult for SS to top the SSW version, but an action-oriented version just might be different enough to tempt some of us who already own the SSW version.

Yes, i think this is the way to go..... no competition over which one is Weta, i mean better ;) just a knowledge that both together would look AWESOME.
Can you imagine that? The SSW version and a more action-orientated one? :thud: As long as it looks better than the diorama!!

Yeah, it's a pretty nice feeling, isn't it? :)

The next three years are going to be a lot of fun and bring back a lot of memories.

I can't believe that I'm going to have just one more of those moments in life where I walk out of the theater and think of how long the wait will be until next Christmas when PJ will be taking me back to Middle Earth.

I just hope that the Tolkien resurgence will add some fuel to the PF line.

I'll never forget it for two reasons, the first is obviously the films themselves; the second being it was the only time I remember snow sticking on the ground in Orange County. :hi5: :yess:

And yes, more PFs ...... :panic: :impatient: :lecture

I enjoy the PFs and will definately continue to buy them. The maquettes look fantastic, but I will probably only buy the ones not released previously in statue form or like the Aragorn/Strider a definate must have. I already have Legolas & Gimli on Arod and I like that statue well enough and may pass on this Legolas. Time will tell though.
