Xbox Live Gold subscribers might want to renew before November 1, when the price of a yearly subscription to the service jumps $10 in North America.

According to a post on Major Nelson's blog, after eight years' of Xbox Live at the $50 a year price point, the service is finally seeing a price hike. Starting on November 1, a year Gold subscription to Xbox Live will run $59.99, versus the current price of $49.99. One month subscriptions will jump from $7.99 to $9.99, while three month subs will rise from $19.99 to $24.99.

Other regions will be seeing increases as well. In the UK the price of one month will jump from 4.99 GPB to 5.99 GPB. The price of a month in Canada rises a dollar to $9.99. Finally, a year subscription in Mexico rises from 499 to 599 pesos.

Microsoft is running a special deal right now for North American customers, allowing them to lock in a year at $39.99, $20 less than the new rate. For details, visit the deal website.

Jesse Divnich with industry analyst EEDAR sent out a statement accompanying the news, insuring consumers that $60 is still "an incredible value."

"When originally launched in 2002, a Gold subscription cost the same as an AAA video game, $49.99. When taking into account for inflation ($50 in 2002 is roughly $60 in 2010) and the additional services available to Gold subscribers in 2010, such as ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm and Video Kinect, a $10 price increase still represents an incredible value to consumers"

Whether or not $60 a year is an incredible value is ultimately up to consumers. What say you, consumers?

Better get a subscription plan before Nov. 1 to lock yourself in before the price hike, gamers.

I love how they say that additional services like ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, and Netflix make the price hike seem like you are still getting a great deal.

I can get that crap without having to have a Live subscription AND it's more user friendly elsewhere as well.

That's kind of surprising. But then you have to wonder, if Microsoft thinks the service needs to cost more to run, then how is the online service for PS3 going?

They have kept it at $50 for 8 years.... I think they are allowed to kick it up a little.

I've been paying roughly $38 for 13 months of Live thanks to Amazon. I'll have to load up before the price increase.

Get that logic out here, we all know they are greedy bastards and you get everything you get from live for free over at PSN and they would never charge anything.:monkey3:lol

Eh, XB Live is cool, but I hardly use very many of its features. Downloading demos and MP is all I need it for. Not much else. Plus none of my friends are ever on very often. Guess I'll wait until COD Black Ops or Gears of War 3 for some action...

EDIT: My membership renews at the end of next January. It'd actually be a waste to lock-in before November.

Yeah what the hell. I already pay $11 a month for netflix, now I have to pay another $10 to watch in on xbox? There's no addition charge to watch it online. I won't even touch the ESPN, Facebook, Twitter features. I buy systems to play games not to go on lame social networking sites.

They should have waited for the next system to jack up the price. This is so dumb.

I think if they jack up the price they should give us something that is worth the price jack.

ESPN I pay for TV to get, facebook and twitter I pay my internet connection to use, and I get netflix movies in the mail.

I buy gaming consoles for gaming related experiences. Not tweet and give pointless facebook status updates or find out LeBron James' latest team swap.
