That was a damn good fight night though...minus the Fitch fight imo but he did what was expected so it wasn't to much of a letdown. I really thought Thiago would come out stronger though...

I have to say I was completely shocked what happened in this fight, with the whole thing.I give Sonnen much more respect than Fitch. Sonnen beat the crap out of Silva for the whole fight. I dont like the guy still, but I gotta give him props for that. Its pretty obvious what Silvas biggest hole in his game is. If GSP ever moves up, that would be real real interesting. A rematch would be great, but I dont think this is as controversial as other fights that demanded rematches like Penn/Edgar and Machida/Shogun. The guy had the fight won, just made a stupid mistake.
If Fitch and GSP ever do fight again, I dont think Fitch has any chance still. Its a lot like Franklin when he was in the MW division, hes argueably the 2nd best in the division, but still nowhere near as talented as the champ. Not to mention Fitch's best attribute doesnt compare to GSP's same ability, and GSP has much better stand up/JJ than Fitch.

I give Sonnen a lot of credit. He brought the fight and backed up his trash talk. In the first round I seriously thought that he was gonna knock Silva out when he started landing all those punches and Silva didn't even bring his hands up to try and block.

Sonnen fought a great fight. Silva was getting his ass handed to him and his takedown defense, as usual, didn't do him any favors.
But that's why in MMA, you need to truly be good at ALL disciplines to be truly effective.
If only Chael had a little more power...
Was very impressed by Hughes, though I'm not sure where he goes next. Maybe another rematch with Hallman, lol.
Guida looked fantastic, as usual. I was extremely pleased with his performance. And Nelson's decision to give up the body shot to protect the head didn't pay off since his normal solid stamina was shot by the second round.

Plenty more. But you get the point. Plus, a lot of people don't get Chael Sonnen's dead pan humor. Dude makes a whole crap load of statements that are meant to be tongue-in-cheek but unfortunately that doesn't translate to print. Watch the UFC 117 pre-fight presser and see how damn near everything he says has people rolling and at certain points even Chael can't maintain a straight face. But if you only read those quotes they come off different.
Even the quotes I listed above: I've seen the video (1st quote) and heard the audio (second) and IMO they're purposely outlandish statements for the sake of a laugh.
Great night of fights, even better being there live. Man I lost my voice screaming. The place went nuts when Anderson pulled off the submission. Even though everyone was chanting USA or sonnen the whole fight. Hope they come back to Oakland. Next time I'm getting cageside tickets.

Yeah I thought that was weird. First the crowd boo'ed Sonnen (fighter intros). Then when he started winning the crowd was chanting "USA". Then it changed to "Silva, Silva". Then more "USA" until the finish and everyone cheered for Silva.
Oakland fans = Confused.

Yeah as much trash as Chael was talking i'll give it to him that he at least came to fight. As much as he annoys me, I was happy that he was putting it to Anderson. I didnt lose faith in him though...I kept thinking Andersons weathering the storm and he'll pull something off. I kept seeing Chael throw those little rabbit punches with his arms all stretched out and I I kept thinking something would come from that and sure enough, we know the outcome. Great fight.
As for my dissappointment, I wasnt happy with Thiago's performance...nor was I happy to see Jon grind out a decision.

That's not the first time Silva turned out a lack-luster performance against a lesser fighter - Patrick Cote ring a bell? If Cote hadn't of blown his knee out, he damn well might have pulled off the upset. Whoever Silva fights next might be in for a major @$$-whooping, considering how he's going to be pi$$ed about his performance and probably over-train.
Question is, who has a better chin, Silva or Nelson? Those 2 guys can take a punch. I was suprised Silva didnt go lights out with some of those bombs Sonnen dropped on him from the top. That dude has gotta be heartbroken from that loss. All he had to do was lay on Silva for 2minutes and he was champ. His style came back to bite him in the butt cause if he wasnt so aggressive in the 5th, he would have won.
I dont see a rematch happening unless its after the Belfort fight, but I want to see GSP move up for a super fight. If GSP can put on some weight, i think he can do some of same things that Sonnen did.
