Re: Sideshow star wars line is dead

If you want perfection and money isn't going to stand in your way, by all means commission Trevor Grove or whoever your favorite sculptor is, hire Josh Small to paint it and Kato E to make the clothes and I bet you will have the best SW figures ever.
It will cost $1200 for each figure but why sacrifice quality for money.

Re: Sideshow star wars line is dead

Sorry but as i know it Sideshow only started star wars 1/6 in mid 2006 and my han Bespin only arrived 2 weeks before xmas.

So early 2000 ?

I do hate so many troopers though.

And charcters like Dooku in PF and then everyone wants a Dooku 1/6 within a space of 12 months. I think more attention and love should be given to a new character !!!!

But Hammerhead , Boba , Tarkin , ESB characters coming and many many more !

Was this a joke ? OR HAVE I BEEN TAKING CRAZY PILLS !!??

Re: Sideshow star wars line is dead

Hey folks - my two cents. I loves me the Sideshow Star Wars line. I think there's miles and miles to go before we should even begin to consider the line being "dead". And while I agree, there's been a lot of clones and troopers... well... that's fine by me cuz I like 'em. I'm sure in two years we'll all be "bored" of Mandalorians when we have Boba, Jango, Jodo Kast and whoever else they make in order to get as much use from the r&d as possible! And while there's always some character selections that aren't my "most favorite" at that moment... pieces like the Hammerhead and Palpy on Throne have me buzzing...

I don't have everything, but I have most everything from the line. I don't really care much about the price drop on the secondary market, but yeah I agree... there's certainly something "assuring" (for lack of a better word) about pieces at least mostly holding their value. I don't sell much of anything... but I guess deep down all of us hope what we buy is "worth it". Heck, I don't plan to sell my house here in Burbank, but it'd be nice if it doesn't plummet in value! :)

I just read a big article with Paul Southern, the head of licensing for LFL. Star Wars was once again the #1 toy license in the unverse.... so Star Wars continues to just be an unstoppable force (pun intended). But with the films in the rear view mirror and the economy still in hard times, I think we should see smaller edition sizes. The days of selling mega-oodles of these (and most other "high-end" Star Wars collectibles) are over. But it gets hairy for companies. They don't want to leave potential profits on the table (which is understandle).... but they have to balance that with the perceived "value" of their products by collectors. As someone said, if it's cheaper to just hit ebay six months later for a bargain... then that hurts Sideshow's brand. So it's a balancing act.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. :) Hope this didn't come off like a :lecture

of u. I apologize if it's so straight forward. Maybe I should have put...

Did he somehow infringe upon your freedom to have an opinion, simply by making the foolishness of your point obvious?

Re: Sideshow star wars line is dead

Why is it foolish to want a better quality product?!?!? What he said is just retarded.

Re: Sideshow star wars line is dead

Now before u start bashing me or agree with me. PLEASE NOTE I'm a die hard star wars fan. That being said. Is it me or is sideshows star wars line dead?!?! I remember 2006 when the line was HOT. The exclusives went for crazy money on eBay. And the even the regulars would sell out fast. Now, the line is worthless. Now there is light at the end of this tunnel. Sideshow does have plans on making every armored character, trilogy and prequel. Can this spark more interest?? I hope so. ESB BOBA FETT probably being the most anticipated!! I just wish star wars had that hot toys quality!!!!! I'm sad to say I've sold MOST of my sideshow star wars figures. I miss having that love for them. The love I have for my hot toys. U know what I mean!?!? I also want to note that I love sideshow. PFs and statues ROCK!! But sadly, in my opinion, star wars line is dead. ;(

edit-time frame was wrong.

Get a room.

I think your approach has been a little blunt mate. The line is far from being dead or worthless as you also put it. You have simply become what is known as a Hot Toys fan-boy. Granted, the quality of their products, at the moment, is slightly ahead of other companies but Sideshow, DID, Soldier Story etc. are catching up.
Sideshow is not only improving their 1/6 lines by bringing in more talented painters such as Josh Small but had also worked alongside Hot Toys to improve the base bodies of the figures, you would know this if you were paying any attention to recent releases.
You may also be unaware that your beloved Hot Toys wasn't always turning out the figures you are buying today, only a few years back they were turning out pretty poor renditions of characters like MI:2 Ethan Hunt and Neo from The Matrix.
So :pfft:

Awesome!! I can't wait to see what they have in store for the line.

Are the dueling smileys a hint? :)

Re: Sideshow star wars line is dead

Ok, maybe you were to busy 'loving' your hot toys figures to some Barry White music, so I will explain my post to you.

Ambrosoli wrote: "I will not sacrifice quality over quantity and $. Sorry guys. "

The post reflects that cost is not an issue, my reply addressed this concept.

Now onto your comment "Seriously dude grow up. Were talking toys here."
You're telling me to grow up after stating that you are unhappy that the clothes and paint on your dollies aren't up to your standards?

Saying the line is dead isn't offensive, its just idiotic. The line continues to sell fabulously and with Fetts, Yoda, Gammorian, Hammerhead, etc on the horizon and you think the way to ensure it continues is to raise the prices and limit the variety.
There is always room for improvement but that must continuously be balanced against the price. You might be disappointed with their handling of the line but the hundreds, if not thousands of PAYING customers who preorder each new release disagree. But maybe they just don't have that 'special' relationship with their action figures that you do.

I've added the "IMHO" to the title of this thread as it is only an opinion that has been expressed-- and obviously others, myself included, have a very different other opinion. Please respect everyone's opinion no matter how much you disagree-- that's what makes life interesting. It would be very boring if we all thought the same.

By the way, IMHO the line is alive and thriving.
