I ve seen the video of the guy working on this.He did nt seem to give a rats ass about it and certainly did nt have any real reference material around him,it s true.He was phoning it in.

Really? Kind of hard to "phone it in" on a piece that was sculpted from the ground up. Where is your ALIEN sculpt so we can compare :lol

Why should a customer have a sculpt of their own in order to state their opinion on a HT product?

Do YOU have any sculpts you'd like to share?

I do, but they are nowhere near as nice as this is :lol And you should try not to read the post too literally.

My point is the claim that something as detailed and ecompassing as sculpting a complete 1/6 alien is a "phoned in" job is fairly insulting to an artist.

I really doubt the sculptor just went at it willy nilly as the original post's tone would imply. Does it have innaccuracies... sure, but is the sculptor a slouch... doubtful as evidenced by a piece that overall is very high quality.

Yeah, when I think of of "phone in" I think half assed effort, which this figure doesn't suggest, it's a hell of a sculpting job, just a little off target in the accurracy department.

I see your point Galactic. And I agree with you and MF that this is a great sculpt. Sadly, it's just not accurate.

Inaccurate, rubber-cracking, half-assed... That said, where am I gonna get one, Sabres? :D

After so many in hand pics, I've come to the conclusion that the mouth is reasonably 'fixable' and that I'd very much like to add this to my collection. Dallas and Kane need something. Looks like the complete A L I E N line will be those three and that's it. Disappointing, but that's it.

Thanks for the 411 and yor expertise!

During filming, condensation would form on the inside of the dome from Bolaji perspiring under the hot lights.

This condensation, and the application of the KY jelly, is actually what gave the dome it's "cloudy" look that everyone sees in the film.

It's probably off to clean off that condensation and give Bolaji a bit more air.

I think the "casual" Sci-Fi fan... would look at this, recognize it and think "hey, that's Alien from the movie". Not think "oh the mouths off" or differentiate mouths from Aliens in various movies. Most don't care if the mouth is "off a milliimeter" or the teeth are "just not right" or the "dome is shaped wrong". Thats a job for the obsessive fan and most of them will never be happy. And that's fine. But it is obsessive.

No.

I'm a "casual" sci-fi fan, who happens to really love the first Alien film (and none of the others). And the problem with this rendition is that the head does not look like it did in the film. At all. I don't care about the individual details, all I want is for it to roughly evoke the form and shape of the images on screen. And there is not one frame in the film where the Alien looks like this weird, large-jawed, Godzilla lookalike.

To be fair, it's the same reason I don't like the NECA one, which is accurate to some of the prop elements, but not to what we saw onscreen (eg the over-clear dome).

I know you are right in terms of 100% Xeno accuracy (well, in most areas) but I think in terms of the over all look, then to the non-obsessive fan the HT wins. The NECA's ugly pin joints, cut joints (that look odd if not lined up) and the cheap look of the plastic and paint app (esp the inner skull) coupled with its general ungainliness make it look like a budget figure, which in all fairness it is. So comme si comme ca!

yep the neca is cheap ass looking...

The only thing that looks off in the NECA are the paint apps under the dome IMO, and from a regular viewing distance really are not that noticeable.
I think it's a much better overall sculpt than what I've seen in pics of the HT effort, and not just because of accuracy.
A lot of people are won over by striking paint apps.

Again though, the NECA doesn't really look like what we saw on screen.

I think future sculptors should really sit down with the forthcoming Bluray of Alien and a good pause feature, and use that as their main reference, rather than "backstage" production stills.

That's not going to help a whole lot.

The only really clear shots of the whole Alien are the "backstage" production stills.

Well guys, I caved in & bought one. I got it for $155.00 shipped & that was the cheapest I could find it. :sick Overall I really love the way it looks even if it's not screen accurate. I hope it looks as good in hand as it does in the pics. Thanks for all the pics! :rock
