From the pics I like the Enterbay a little better but the HT seems more like something that could be achieved in a production piece.

Hot Toys is 100% better than enterbay.
Does the enterbay come with a pen?
What's that about?
Also HT's chair looks like it's been sat in and more realistic.
enterbays looks like they just got it from staples.
:chew

If you use the price versus quality argument for Sideshow and Hot Toys, you could say that Hasbro could compete with Sideshow, or Volkswagen can compete with Farrari.

Its a flawed argument.

This is true and I remember having the argument way back when SSC got the line from Hasbro despite my desire. :lol

I just know that at some point "uber high quality" means a great figure that will make some ubercollector happy, but if I can't afford it or it causes me to sacrifice too many other things, why should I be among those hoping for that? Is it selfish to NOT want to be priced out and say that I'm ok with not having the OMG Hot Toys quality?

Yes. It's very selfish. But you have a point. It makes little sense for both these companies to be making virtually the exact same thing at the same price point. If it were SSC and EB and SSC's was $90 instead of $160-170, that would make much more sense.

Personally I think anyone that's seeing any major improvements in the actual figure of HT's over EB's is deluding themselves. However I would venture that EB's cat is better and HT's chair is better. Look at the top of the chair - HT's has some filligree not present on EB's.

Man, I really do have a hard time grasping the idea that wanting something to maintain my standards (so I can afford it) is selfish, but someone wanting it to meet their standards (causing many others to not afford it) is not selfish.

Its not the first time I heard it, but I still don't get it.

Is it just a matter of saying "the pursuit of highest quality" should be the optimum motivation of a collectible maker and eliminating the number of collectors is just a casualty?

Imagine if only those interested in spending $10,000 for the newest TV were the only people given the opportunity to own a tv.

I was kidding - (and sort of agreeing with you). You're in the boat with everyone else - we all want what fits into our world view. It's not selfish - it's human nature.

Personally I'd prefer if every 1/6th figure was the best it possibly can be, no matter the price. That seems to be the business that HT and EB are in. Hasbro is in a very different business - "can we make this for this price?" SSC is somewhere in the middle, but I think their mindset is moving towards HT's. They'd rather not do the Godfather at all and turn it over to HT, than do it 'for a price".

I might end up getting both to see which is truly better in the long run.
I'm thinking overall that Enterbay's may bring a better sense of quality
to the figures than HT.

I'm glad you were kidding.

I like good quality, but I also know that the pursuit of too much quality and not enough value leave everyone from the collector to the manufacturer high and dry, especially in this current economy.

There may be some people willing to spend $200 for figures, but its better to find a medium level where they strive to make quality product but also so there are a large number of collectors driving the demand and thus create a flourishing market for everyone.

Everyone seems focused on the quality of the figure and it's relationship to the price, forgetting entirely that it also has to do with the quantity produced. More produced, lower costs. The real trick, and the one that plagues every company is how do you manage to up the quantity produced and STILL keep the quality. Because HT's run sizes are increasing, you're seeing prices drop as they should. The big question is going to be - will the quality still be there? We'll see, and I certainly hope so. If they can pull that off, they can tackle larger licenses and do some amazing figures.

They WANT to sell the higher quantity but they may have reservations that they could do it at the current prices. Its an experiment.

I don't think any company is just generous enough to lower prices because they save a nickel themselves.

If the product still sells at the higher quantities, look for prices to rise.

I think I like the Enterbay sculpt a bit more... but not by much and I think the rest of the HT figure looks better (except for the cat). So I'll be sticking with HT for now.
