Been doing that. Doesn't make it any easier though.

No it doesn't. And when you see things going on with these bailouts by both the banks and the car companies it makes you sick!

We should all apply for bailouts. I promise not to sponsor a baseball stadium with mine.

Why is it ****** bag companies always seem to lay people off around the holidays? Sorry to here that Krayt and Teemu. I hope things get better for you both. :duff

We have alot of that going on here in Ohio too. Ohio used to be a great work state. Alot of good paying jobs, but most of them are gone. And even after you retire they screw you with that social security rollback. We still have that here. Stinks!

If we live in a world where people can make a movie about assassinating George W. Bush, and anything else due to out 1st amendment, then I can say and type what I feel. I just hope that people who are members of SAG can think for themselves and see the whole picture and not just continue on with the mob mentality. It will help from putting hunderds of thousands of people out of work, not just crew, but all the businesses who contribute to the industry.

I hope that all of us here never have to sell out stuff to pay bills, but that just isn't the way it is.

What are they going on strike for? What do they want?

I think one reason things aren't moving that fast on the board is the LIVE.com discount. I know I was waiting for it to drop before posting my sales thread. I have never sold on ebay and would only do it as a last resort if I was really desperate to unload some items.

yeah i doubt i'll ever sell on ebay again. people are so shady they'll try to take you for a ride every chance they get.

Well its official, I am done(job gone), got the word today! Thank you all for the kindness given...to both me and krayt...there is definitely a good, family feel on this chatboard.

Damn, sorry to hear that man... just sucks! Hope you can find something soon :duff

Well, because of a series of things, I might end up doing the unthinkable... I'll have to sell 2 of my AVP preds...
maybe even 3, but I'll try here first... then Ebay...
it sucks!!
I've been trying to recover from last year when I lost my job and when I thought I was about to, I had to spend $1,400.00 in unexpected crap...
and then things a re weird at work... damn it...
and my wife just lost her job...
arghhhh!!!!

Damn- I hate unexpected expenses. They always appear just as you are starting get a little ahead. Tomorrow I have to replace my tires. Grr.

Sorry to hear about all the job losses. Hopefully this economy will improve quickly!

The only people who are still doing OK are all those speculators, and bank CEO's....They get bailed out...what about the poor old everyday man? But, I suppose after quite a few years of "good-times" for most of us.....It had to happen sooner or later.

I know it's of little consequence to those who have just lost their jobs, but like everyone is saying, you just gotta hang in there, and maybe a turn-around is just around the corner..

Really sorry to hear all the people who have lost their job. These are some tough times. My job has also slowed down due company outsourcing some of our work to other countries ( cause its cheaper for them to pay their wages). I am staying positive and hoping things will turn around soon. I wish everyone the best of luck in finding a new job.

I was supposed to be laid-off several months ago, but they extended my employment until next year. Actually, I had volunteer to quit to take the severance package in this economy. I'm tired of working for corporate, getting calls at 2AM, working 12 hours a day and including every weekend, being on-call 24 hours, working with bozos on the same team and fixing their mistakes...enough is enough.

I'm waiting to take my vacation soon before I look elsewhere. From what I'm hearing, jobs are out there for contractors but not permanent. It doesn't matter if you're contractor or permanent; companies will laid either one.

My advice for others is to start getting in contact with your old friends or peers. Another option is to get on linkedin and find your old friends/peers. People that I have worked with 8 years ago are finding me on linkedin and vice versa. They can help out at their current company. I have already been asked if i'm interested in doing other things outside of my current expertise. So, networking is the way to go now to find another job.

Just remember, EVERY YEAR during Christmas, companies are not hiring. However, they spend their free time in interviewing open position for early next year. Stay positive. Don't think about the negative in your life.

Also to keep in mind that every year, companies tend to laid off all the lazy ass people. It's normal for them to do so in order to bring in new energetic people to do the work. Also, by doing so, they are getting rid of the high paying salary people to bring in the lower salary. Expect a paid cut if you're getting 6 digits.

Good luck to everyone.

We need consumers to spend..spend..spend..in order to improve the economy. So please, spend as much as you can this year so that it can develop a chain reaction of jobs :)

Me and my brother had to close our plumbing business due to all this. So i picked up the phone and after 10 calls i got an interview for us and within a few days we were both working. We both have a few part time jobs now, and its worked out ok thankfully, and the moneys not bad either. Theres plenty of part time work out there if your willing to try something different or your desperate enough. In the UK we had a lot of Polish workers and a fair few of them have gone home, so many sectors have alot of vacancies now.

Keep your heads up guys and gals, things will get better sooner than you all know it. Every action has a reaction and sometimes things get alot worse before better.

This I know VERY well, there is probably not too many here that can say they've hit as low as I had and recovered to the state i'm in now.

In 2003 I should have been homeless, just keep your heads up and you'll see what powers God truly has given you all!

damn this sucks that people are getting laid off and stuff. i got laid off permanently many years ago and i was freaking out wondering what i was gonna do. now i work at the one factory that holds my small town together. it's been around for over 50 years and i swear that i pray everyday that it stays around for another 50. if they shut it down i really would be lost. i dont know how to do anything else. supposedly our factory is the most profitable one in the whole chain and it has been for years. so i'm not too worried at the moment but anything can happen.
