Love how they did Mysterio in this movie. Didn't see it in 3D but I bet it looks Awesome in that format.

This sounds like a mediocre Marvel movie. The shape of things to come.

As has been said, without the direction of "the 10 year plan" these things all start to blend and meander and feel unimportant.

You may be right. I love seeing one of my childhood heroes on screen, so they got me on movie tickets and I bought the action figure, but objectively speaking the film is mostly forgettable, except for when you see glimmers of how dangerous Spider-Man can actually be.

I'd give it 3.6 Roentgen -- not great, not terrible.

The movie is mediocre in practically every way possible. Besides the two kewwwlll mysterio scenes which I loved

Wow, reviews ranging from it being immediately among the top tier of the MCU and better than Spiderman 2 to that^

That’s any movie really. I’d put it at the same level as homecoming. Probably just barely missing top 10 MCU.

As a goofy comedy set in the MCU, the movie is entertaining, has great special effects and a compelling villain. The locations alone make it feel more cinematic than HOMECOMING ever did.

Now, Spidey was never my favorite character, but I grew up on the 90's animated series and read my fair share of the Ditko run. I still admire the Peter Parker character and respect that at the end of the day, he's Marvel's flagship icon. The Mickey Mouse of the Marvel brand.

Why is the MCU so embarrassed of embracing him as his own character? The way he was introduced in CIVIL WAR was perfect and opened the door to a lot of possibilities. Yet five films later, he seems as tied into the IRON MAN brand as he ever was. His entire origin, reliance on technology and even his villains are just disgruntled Stark enemies with Spidey rogue names.

Holland's supporting cast and motivations are almost unrecognizable from any comics I ever read; He's not struggling to be his own man or pay the bills, or support a sick aunt. He's clever, but that's undercut by him inheriting literal wealth, power and even sidekicks from a historically-secondary Marvel character.

Marvel could have NEVER gotten the rights from Sony, and without the classic suit or webbing, changed one or two names, and made IRON LAD: HOMECOMING or SON OF IRON MAN: FAR FROM HOME without breeching a contract. That's how different this "Peter Parker" feels.

People used to ***** about Tobey Maguire's organic webbing and dancing in the street, but here we have a film where even the weight of ENDGAME is treated like a throwaway gag in the opening scene, and there's a sitcom punchline every five minutes. Fans are eating it up.

Can you imagine a BATMAN reboot where a teenage Clark Kent is introduced as Bruce Wayne's teen sidekick, and Batman is the one who designs him a powered-Superman suit with anti-Kryptonite gadgets?

But this movie is gonna make a billion dollars and sell a ton of toys. What do I know?

This didn't reinvent the wheel but I really really liked it all the same. I'm sure that'll even grow with each viewing.

Only thing that I'm not crazy about is the teenage tone of it all. I didn't love it in HC, still don't love it now but I'm putting up with it because all the other good aspects and future potential of MCU Spidey. But I hope we stop getting Spider-Boy and start getting Spider-Man soon

Going for a second viewing with a bunch of people tonight, we’ll see how it holds up.

Won’t see it til Friday but I keep hearing this and that about it. Mainly good things. As a fan who lived through the asm era and seeing people praise that horrible franchise back then I really hope this movie is as good as people are saying and not just hype . I love Spider-Man so I sincerely hope this is just as good as Spider-Man 2 cause nothing really tops the raimi level action tbh. So I hope fans reactions aren’t just riding that hype wave only to realize later it was meh.

This ****s on Spider-Man 2

Yeah no it’s not even in the same league. Seems like this was meant for Disney+ or something. Reminded me a a 25 min episode of Kim possible.

I really enjoyed the film. I loved how they portrayed Mysterios powers.... felt reminiscent of TAS.

Really enjoyed the expanded MJ and Happy roles too.

Much as I love Holland's Spiderman and was really touched by the relationship set up with Tony Stark I can't disagree with anything you've said - well, I haven't seen Far From Home yet - but in the general sense - I really think in the next film they need to stop tethering Spiderman so closely to the broader MCU and bring back traditional Spideyverse elements and let them be their own thing.

After seeing this movie EG still remains the perfect drop off point from the MCU if one chooses to treat that as the OG Avengers lineup story arc and call it the infinity gauntlet saga, done walk away you’re golden!

But that doesn’t mean that Marvel should all of a sudden just abandon the connected universe formula and start making isolated character movies like we’re back in 2004!

That’s crazy talk lol

Thought this was pretty weak. It just doesn't feel like Spiderman to me. Still relying too much on Stark even after his death. The only part that felt like spiderman to me was when he's swinging through Manhattan. I think this was my least favourite Spiderman to date and I really don't like TASM 2 or Spiderman 3.
