I love Man of Steel in part because it is roughy in a deconstructionist vein same as BvS and Watchmen, implicitly asking 'if superheroes existed for real and actually inhabited our real world, would that acctually be a good thing? Is that something we would really want?' Etc. Because MoS is more of a first contact scf-fi film about an extraterrestrial living among us and an alien invasion than it is about the traditional Superman character from the comics. I think the Black Zero event is a metaphor for humankind exerperiencing a psychological shock in learning it is not alone in the universe, the trauma of that paradigm shift. But anyway it's because of this layer of meaning that, for me, personally, I actually love the film much, much more than the 1978 Reeves film. Snyder commented once that earlier depictions of Superman in film annd television reflected an American identity that is an "apple pie and Chevrolet, American Dream in a weird way" sort of vision and personally I agree. MoS and BvS are the collision of postmodernism with that sensibility that what society tells you is absolute truth can be trusted, that the world can easily be made sense of, right and wrong are simple, etc.

I'm hopeful for the Matt Reeves trilogy, but I do find it hard to accept that WB reportedly kept messing with Ben Affleck's script for his own solo Batman film to the degree that he walked. And Reeves I'm sure doesn't deserve this from me, but WB bringing him on board to revamp Batman reminds me of them bringing Whedon aboard to reshoot Justice League. I absolutely loved the 'fallen' older TDKR inspired Batman that Affleck portrayed, and wanted to see him finish out the 5 film arc that was originally planned for him, plus his own solo film. Intellectually I can understand that we're going to see a new Batman with the Reeves trilogy. But it bugs me that I won't see my favorite Batman continue. And emotionally, unfortunately that may sour me somewhat to the Reeves trilogy.

I love the vision Snyder had for MoS and BvS, as you point out it's very different from anything else we've seen. I just don't think it was always that well executed. Very fond of BvS(ultimate edition) despite it's flaws but at times it feels like a series of memorable scenes that don't quite come together as a coherent story. I just hope we do someday get to see Cavil play Superman in a new solo movie.

I understand the disappointment over Affleck leaving to. In many ways he's the best live action Batman we've ever had but he never got that one killer movie he deserved. I'm excited for the Reeves movie after he promised a noir style detective movie. As much as I've enjoyed Keaton, Bale and Affleck in the role I don't believe we've ever had a movie focus on Batman's true detective nature. To me the story and direction is more important than the actor under the cowl. They shouldn't need a massive budget or loads of CGI to make awesome Batman movies.

Yeah totally agree with Silverstar. Great post !!

I didn't know there was a 5 film arc planned. That makes me even sadder now......

Now waiting three and a half months for the earliest possible release in July... Wake me up in 14 weeks, I guess :sleep

Actually I did think of something to discuss for this figure for now: the underchroming beneath the suit's mesh. You can see a hint of it shinging through in Hot Toys' promotional pics of the prototype. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson mentioned in one of the JL blu ray featurettes that they would be adding that for this version of the suit, in addition to using more saturated, i.e., brighter, warmer, colors. (Which it seems the JL Superman repaint of the BvS head sculpt will get as well for the skin tone.)

In the theater release of the film... and I'm not totally sure of this, but I have assumed it is mostly due to the Whedon reshoots which features a red sky that I have read Snyder did not use... the color grading makes the blue of the suit look more like a shade of turquoise. The way that the underchrome shows through does not look natural at all in the film. It looks sort of clumsily done in fact. To my eye anyway.

But in the HT prototype pics the color is true to what we see in the Wilkinson featurette, and the chrome beneath the mesh of the suit looks much more subtle. In those photos it does seem to succeed in making the musculature more pronounced, without overdoing it.

You can see some chroming in the Hot Toys BvS Superman as well, but it seems less noticeable.

How do you guys feel about this figure adding a more pronounced chroming to the musculature beneath the mesh of the suit?

I think it looks great in the prototype pics, and the videos I've seen of the figure at Comic-Cons.

Tokyo Comic-Con, late Dec. 2018, see at 1:39:

I didn't like what was done to it in the theater release at all, though.

July 5th hurry up. Anyone think release will likely be delayed even longer? I noticed you can still preorder this figure.

I already cancelled my pre-order right now. I'm just waiting for a refund from seller.

Given the length of delays to the other figures in this line I'd be surprised if we see the figure this year.

Flash and Aquaman were supposed to be out October 2018...six months later we are still waiting.

The more endgame **** they keep pushing out, the more I want to cancel and get my preorder refunded.

this company ****ing sucks.

if youre a straight DC fan than HT can be frustrating. With HT it helps to be a Marvel/Star Wars fan as well
