My ED is still inside its box. But I did open ot once to inspect before putting it back in. That was 2-3 weeks ago.

I'm about to buy the 303 silicone protectant wipes from Amazon and then re-inspect. I hope it doesnt have cracks. But I will apply the wipes since my living room gets hot during the day.

Someone else brought up this quote earlier in the whole mess but it's perfect:

''Your company built the ****ing thing. Now I gotta deal with it?''

I personally feel so let down by this whole ed 209 rubber crapfest that I honestly decided to cancel my robocop and now im rethinking how I collect hot toys from this point on. I mean I waited a few years for the NEW AND IMPROVED ed 209 to come out and now im returning it with money out of my pocket to return ship this back to sideshow. THIS IS B S.....to the N'th degree......and all the while hot toys keep on acting like they really dont CARE.......well thats unacceptalbe for me.

I completely feel you. This whole thing has really made me rethink collecting high end figures all together.

Yeah, the whole "must be first batch issues" crap is so unbelievably arrogant and disrespectful.
Who the **** do they think buys the first batch?
They are lucky, they are in china. If they were in europe, first of all there wouldn't be any hassle about returns and second of all
I could just drive over there and beat the arrogance out of them.

^^^This sums it up exactly. This is how I feel right now. I have to wait till Monday to pay UPS for a label to return this back to SSC.

Its the only way Hottoys is going to learn. Everyone should return these asap for a refund. No matter the retailer know your consumer rights. If a high priced item is falling apart with in a year is not acceptable.

You said it all. Unless there is some kind of serious pain in the butt returns issues with SS they aren't going to care..but if enough people demand a refund there might be some serious talking going on between SS and HT...

Posted pics of mine in the other ED-209 thread. Not sure what to do now since the issue isn't yet present. Odds don't look good though!

The absolute cherry on top of the craptastic sunday is HOT TOYS knew about this rubber issue years and years ago with the ORIGINAL ed 209. I remember maybe 3 years ago I was so close to buying one but the rubber on the dome was frayed and cracked. I told myself "im not going to buy a defective shoddy product" I really thought HOT TOYS was going to get it right this time around. Once this was announced years ago I pictured the hot toys personnel all herded around a office table with there supposed engineers, leads, and factory quality control specialists saying "you guys remember how many issues we had with figures right....You guys remember the rubber falling apart on the watchmen comedian figure, the leaky oily abs of the dx batman, The fins breaking off on the tumbler, the eyes on the dx figures snapping, loose joints Paint fading and lights in the arms...chest...head on the ironman figures not working, the DOME on the orginal ed 209, the chips on captain america's shield, all the cheap glue that has come undone on more than 40% of our figures, hellboys broken knees, the all might DIE CAST mark XLII with its broken and cracked joints, numerous torn and broken rubber bodies........You guys know we need to make this ed 209 without a rubber dome. NO.....NO.....They just made the same product with better features and the idea that this is the figure that you have been dreaming of and waiting for......I honestly can't understand why a company would continuously NEVER address their biggest issues or strive to become better. To me its all about money with hot toys, their philosophy is the more we make the more they buy. There is no quality control or sorry we messed up well fix this and make it right, only the hollow silence that makes me furious. I honestly feel bad for sideshow, I mean its caught in the middle of every messup hot toys has made and now with the ed 209 they are going to have to take a loss. They sold me the Ed 209 and full retail for 410, now lets say sideshow makes 100 bucks off of my sale. Now they have to eat my loss take back my product and send it back to hot toys in china for a refund from their company. Multiply my one case by a 1000 and you have a TON of wasted time and money for sideshow to deal with, And thats just this figure. I'm a huge guardians of the galaxy fan so I will be buying the gotg set but as for the rest. I was going to buy the bank robber joker and the ancient predator, not any more. Im going to take my money and start buying more low end collectables by neca and mcfarlane because for me it doesn't kill my wallet and I get a lot of satisfaction looking at the various product lines such as the planet of the apes, pacific rim, walking dead, aliens and alien.....without the 410 price tag. Oh yeah and they make an ed 209 for 69.00.....guess what......It doesn't have any rubber and the sound chip comes EXACTLY from the actual directors cut of the Actual original Robocop movie......GO FIGURE RIGHT....69.99:horror

Hi All,

Have not written for a while...just like to read others discussions. I bought this figure from Alter Ego Comics. I do not want to return it. I love it, and I fear it will be the only ED-209 in this scale (from the original film).

But, at the same time, I would hate for it to fall apart in a few months/years. For those of you who have a replacement dome, made by boardies, does it hold up? Are many of you planning on keeping it and seeing what happens?

For those of you who did not buy direct from Sideshow, did you contact your seller? If I decide to return it I am not sure if Alter Ego will take it back. It has been over 30 days.

Mine has no cracking yet (and I hope it never does).

One last question: For those of you with the original ED-209, do any of you have one that never cracked?

Thanks!

Just out of a preventive measure (for those not having the cracks yet) :
Spray the dome with a 100% silicone spray and it should keep the rubber in "healthy" condition !!!

From what I've read so far most owners having problems are those with a "dry" rubber dome , while other a saying that they don't
have a problem because theirs have a tacky rubber dome.
I think that they should have all gotten a silicone coating when they left the factory but it seems that not all got the silicone protective layer !

My rubber parts were all shiny, when I got ed. Now they are all cracked.
What is the purpose of sending it back anyways?
It costs money and goes straight to the trashcan.
It is their ****ing fault. We shouldn't have to pay anything to get their mistake erased.
@iron manny
my retailer amiami did not accept my complaint.

Yes but how many people are actually going to go through the hassle of returning theirs, either to Sideshow, or another retailer? So many have the mindset that "this may be the only 1:6 ED-209 we'll ever get" and keep it, cracking rubber and all. That's what I did on the first ED, after sending e-mails to Hot Toys EVERY week for months and never getting a reply, and getting a resin casted replacement dome from a fellow boardie that was better than the rubber but didn't exactly fit right. Sideshow has even been making it more difficult to return defective items. It took me almost 2 weeks going back and forth with their returns department just to get an RMA for my scratched Batmobile. Too much pushback and they don't offer replacements anymore, just a refund or a "credit" for the inconvenience which is absolute B.S. And yet, Hot Toys and Sideshow will keep on trucking because they know people will still buy their stuff regardless.

I don't get all these "what's the point of sending it back", "it's not worth the hassle to send it back", "I'm keeping just in case there's never a new ED-209"? Huh?

If someone here has the opportunity to send it back for a refund, ****ing do it! Who would want to keep something in their collection that is visibly damaged and deteriorating before their very eyes? Does somehow owning an ED-209 just override that? I don't get that at all. If I had this guy, I couldn't even bear to look at it, let alone keep it boxed up someplace. I'd try and take full advantage of the company or distributor taking it back. Even if it was a regular dealer, I'd still try. That's the risk they take selling these things, even if it isn't their fault.

When I had the scratches on my Batmobile, yeah, Sideshow sort of made it a hassle to send it back to them. They'd try and talk you out of it by phone call, measly partial credits, etc. But after it was all said and done, you ship that sucker back and get your money back, there is a moment of relief. Sideshow ended up reimbursing me fully (price and shipping) and I went through the ordeal twice before getting the perfect, undamaged Batmobile. With ED-209 though, it doesn't sound like a "perfect" version is even possible. I wouldn't take the cracks or deterioration sitting down. I'd try anything to get it off my hands and get my money back. I couldn't risk keeping such an eye sore when this is inevitable,

Besides. If people just take it and accept what they've got, Hot Toys will continue to pull the same shenanigans. If you put pressure on your seller (be it Sideshow the distributor, an online retail store, an ebay seller, etc.), that will make them go up the totem pole to Hot Toys, putting pressure on them.

At least for me, it is as follows:
I paid 100€ for the shipping and even if amiami accepted the return, I'd have to pay for the shipping again.
If I tried this sue them, I might win, but I'd have to do it in Japan.
A japanese lawyer, at least one translator- just not worth it.
To think that this will be the last version of ed209 is just stupid.
Robocop is one of the most iconic movies of all time and the design of the robots is timeless.
There will always be new versions, that will make you think "why the **** did I buy that ****** figure 10 years ago.
10 years from now, we might be ****ing in our pants over a walking ed209.
