Title sez it all.

Medicom prices are insane in most cases and with a 435 shipping charge on top and hand posts that break off, skimpy accessories (check out the new Jack Bauer, he comes with a gun) they're not worth it!

Maybe @ 79.99 at best, that is the MOST I would pay

The Medicom Batman Begins is awesome, although tiny, so I'll have to get this guy as a companion piece. Doesn't look that bad really.

I have the DCD 13" Superman returns figure on order already but I'm thinkin' I might break down and order this one as well. Maybe instead. Looks to do the subject justice. I hate this costume as much as everyone else. But it's Superman so I want it. Very nicely done.

What a puney looking Superman. Though DC Directs was somewhat of a letdown, at least he looked heroic.

he looks like he needs to start working out. i know he's not like arnold or anything, but even christopher reeves was bigger than that. his arms are soo skinny maybe he should eat some spinach too.

He's very bumpy looking, but not in a muscular way.

Wow, you guys are tough. I think it's a very good looking figure. I'm not crazy about the costume changes but the translation to 1/6th looks very good on this figure and for Medicom, it's a way above average headsculpt likeness. This is a well done piece based on the photo's.
And as far as the actor goes, I'd guess Mr. Routh's biceps and chest measurements are a good deal larger than Christopher Reeves. I understand the nostalgia for the 80's films and the love for Mr. Reeves, but the new kid is substantially more muscular.
Can Routh act? Will the movie be any good? Well know soon. I have my doubts on this stuff too, but until I see them I don't care to hammer the guy or the toys.

Wow!!! Reeves bigger than Arnold was in Conan. His head is pretty squashed, and his waist and neck are HUGE, but a pretty neat picture, Viking28.

Bigger than Arnold? Were did that come from? All I'm saying (and showed, thanks to Gruson) is that Reeves was/is bigger than Roth.

I'm looking forward to the new movie, but seeing that photo of Christopher Reeve reminds me that he'll always be Superman to me.

The jury is still out on Routh (IMO), but he is bigger than Reeve was, even at his heaviest. Look at the thighs on him - much larger than Reeve. He is also the same height and about 30 lbs heavier than Reeve when he did Superman 1 (according to the publicity).

I think that in regards to getting a Superman representation into my collection, I'll stick to Weta.

I love 12" figures but this one just doesn't look good. I think it's the tight outfit that emphasizes the ugly body being used, as well as the joints.

chamildav
03-26-2006, 03:51 PM
Viking28, I apologise for not being clear. What I was talking about was the photo you posted, not the actual guy looking bigger than Schwarzeneger. Well, bigger everywhere except his head which is pretty tiny in comparison to the rest of his body. I think that photo might be a little distorted, don't you? It isn't my opinion that Routh is a bodybuilder and a "bigger" man than Reeve, he just is no matter how I "feel" about it. Sometimes you need to accept the "tale of the tape" on this stuff. Look, I really wasn't trying to insult Reeve (and certainly not anyone here) either when I said he wasn't as "big" as Routh. Routh is a lifetime bodybuilder and Reeve was a slim guy who had a lot of trouble putting on bulk for the film. Personally I don't have a problem with the way he looked. I think he was fine apearance wise. But if you look at the two guys in similar poses it's obvious Routh is beefier.
The funniest part to me about all this is virtually everything I've read about Routh being too skinny is the same nonsense that was printed about Reeve at the time he was preparing for the role. And with Routh it's even less true than with Reeve. I'm also kinda old compared to most here and I remember other things that were printed at that time such as how can an unknown regional theater and occasional soap opera and commercial actor play Superman? And I remember him being compared by friends of mine to George Reeves and a lot of them thought Chris Reeve could never measure up. Pretty funny stuff in retrospect.
I can't help but think it's better not to get too wound up about this movie until weve seen a little more of it or to say Routh can't be Superman. There are things I don't think look that promising that I have seen, and one of them is the costume, another is the basic premise of "Superman: Returns" picking up continuitly from the second DeLaurentis film. But Singer isn't an idiot and he has made a couple of very good superhero movies. I'm willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until I have good reason not to.
As far as what this conversation should be about, and I apologise again for having digressed, the Medicom figures aren't going to be to everyones taste. I happen to like them and I think this one is a winner. Now I'm a sucker for "The Man of Steel" and likely to buy all kinds of Superman stuff anyway so I'm happy to see this figure available. But for those who don't like it at least you have alternatives like Barbie Superman and the DCD version. None are made by SSC but I would say they offer a pretty wide range of options for collectors as far as quality and value go. Things could be worse 1/6th figure wise.

Hey congerking! :D
I have the HT Superman and let me warn you that his costume is dark. Maybe the material witch the clothes were made could reflect a lot of light when they took the pictures with the inappropriate lights. If you were thinking about to buy this figure and the darkness of his clothes makes you doubt, don't hesitate. Believe me, the photos doesn’t represent the true colours of the figure. Don’t miss the opportunity with Hot Toys. You won't be disappointed. Bye and good luck!

Huh, I have heard lots of good things about HT Superman. The reason I want him is that I got the DC Direct Superman Returns, but he isn't that great. Only reason I got him is because he was in a damaged box and I got him for $25. I just want a better quality version of him. Medicom's chest looks abnormal, but I love the costume. HT seemed to be the opposite, good body, but didn't like the shading of the costume. But you say HT Supes' costume is fine, I'll probably just end up getting HT then.

I'd like to show you the HT's real colour of the suit. I'll try to post some photos in the future and try to emulate the real blue and red as close as you can see in person. I let you the link with some photos I took, but those ones still doesn't show the real colours except for the yellow belt and the “S” areas.

yes, the boots are a little thick... u can bend them slightly but they will not hold their position. but other than that, it is still a great figure. i think both figures have their good and bad, just that for me, the medicom figure has more bad than good. in the pics above, his shorts doesn't even fit him well, plus i just cannot get over the large chest and super small waist-line.

The issue with the small waste line is common with Medicom figures. I have a Medicom Sups and plan to bulk up his wasteline a bit when I get the chance. That should also fill out his undies also.

That modification should balance out the body proportion.

Unlike with the HT vs Medicom Batman battle - I do think the HT Sups is slightly above the Medicom. Sorry Snakebeater :)

But I still loves my Medicom.

I really don't think there's a way to make a HT head fit on a Medicom body without major customization, the neck posts are very different.

As for the Medicom suit fitting on a HT body, I guess it could be possible, if the suit's material is stretchy enough.

But I don't own the Medicom Superman figure, so I'm just making this up... :D
