Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

Excellent news, he's a very talented film maker. He's also attached to make the Preacher movie, but it seems that is having a hard time getting the right script. As far as Bond goes, bring on the next Daniel Craig Bond! He's excellent and my favorite of the actors who played him.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

Great!! I've loved most of his movies so far. Lets keep Bond rolling with the new one. The last two have been freaking amazing.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

let's hope the next director does a better job than marc forster.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

Cool. I can support this. Also, Craig has worked with Mendes before (on Road to Perdition).

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

Yeah Quantum of Solace was the first Bond movie I didn't enjoy. It was an action flick with no plot. Casino Royale didn't appeal to me at first, but after I saw it I was blown away...still not liking Craig, but the script for that one was great.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

I guess I'll be the first to say that I'm not thrilled with Mendes. I loathed, despised, abhored American Beauty (completely melodramatic and unoriginal--it grated on me how it was trying to appear revolutionary but still covering old and tired cliches, like it was shedding a light on some dark corners of suburbia that no one had ever ever explored before. Ooo! So edgy!) and wasn't impressed at all with Road to Perdition. Based on those I skipped his next 2.

However, I like the direction Bond has taken. I even really liked Quantum, and I think Mendes will be smart enough to keep the series in the right path.

GoldenEye is still my favourite Bond, and you can see that Martin Campbell and Brosnan were really trying to push the franchise in this very direction all those years ago. But then the next directors just ignored and pooped over everything Campbell/Brosnan established as it got progressively worse til the abysmal Die Another Day.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

Get Martin Campbell back. The man directs good Bond Films. Check out some of his earlier work on episodes of The Professionals.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

As a Bond fan I'm fine with it. The director is such a small part of the Bond equation that they could practically hire a chimp and it wouldn't matter.

As a Mendes fan I'm bummed. The director is such a small part of the Bond equation that they could practically hire a chimp and it wouldn't matter.

But yeah, I always crack up when I see people acting like Marc Forster did an awful job and that Martin Campbell did a great job. If Martin Campbell had been hired to do a short and lean followup to "Casino Royale" it would have been the same movie.

I don't mind what "Quantum of Solace" is. "Casino Royale" was too long so they over-compensated by making the movie they made. You can only do a story that introduces Bond and gives him a truly tragic lovestory (well, they did that one a couple times, see "OHMSS") but you certainly can't do it over and over so I don't see why people had such a hard time accepting that it wasn't just "Casino Royale" redux. But regardless of the fact that I dug "QoS" I understand enough about the process to know that different directors aren't responsible for the differences. I bet there were probably different people that catered the movies too.

EON doesn't like directors that will actually direct. They chose John Glen over Steven Spielberg and they chose Martin Campbell over Quentin Tarantino. Take a gig as Bond director these days and you're pretty much babysitting the production during the boring parts. Everything else is handled by the same group of people who have always worked on the movies regardless of who the director is.

A Bond director is a TV director. Period.

Bond 23 is currently dead in the water. I have a feeling that the franchise just lost Daniel Craig. This stinks...

"Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on 'Bond 23' indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of 'Bond 23,'" stated Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli jointly.

Hey MGM, ya hear that sound? It's the sound of you pissing money away. Good job!

Mine as well, but Goldeneye still had a lot of the campy stuff in it that I"m glad is no longer in the last 2 films. As much as I loved Q and the funny jokes with his gadgets, it got really old and tiresome.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

I was wondering why there hasn't been any Bond news for a while. Dang! At this point I wouldn't care if Joel Schumacher directed it as long as we got another Bond. Craig's Bond has been a breath of fresh air into the series. I was one of those originally against him, but after seeing CR, I thought he was great. Don't let him be the new Dalton! He needs more than 2 films!

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

Aw ____. ____....if Craig leaves before his story is finished, i'm done with this franchise forever.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

Daniel Craig is James Bond for me. My favorite by a mile. I cant believe MGM cant get funding for a James Bond movie! This just seems silly at this point.

Re: Sam Mendes To Direct Bond 23?

this makes me sad... craig is an amazing bond
