What do you guys think they will or should do with the box art?

I'm really hoping for something drawn ala the original figures, but I don't have my hopes up. If they use photos I hope they put them in action poses rather than standing around or face shots.

The Mike
06-03-2008, 09:41 AM
The nostalgic part of me would love for them to put these figures on cards, blisters like the original figures but I know that's not gonna happen. I was assume something "Classified" similar to a mix of The Dead boxes and the Star Wars boxes. I will own two Snake Eyes for sure.

This and maybe Cobra Commander is all I will buy. It looks fantastic. I just can't go to far with this line. You know the real soldiers will be announced soon. By that I mean Dutch and crew. :rock

Snake Eyes
Cobra Commander
Destro

Scarlett
Duke
General Hawk
Zartan

Good list, as well as the Serpentor add. Even though it'l probably never happen I'd love a Golobulus as well:

Golobulus = :sick to me. I'm absolutely NOT interested in any Cobra-La stuff (in fact, even Serpentor is on the cusp for me... I'm a Marvel/Larry Hama purist at heart).

Some others that would make cool figures:

Firefly
Beach Head

And if they made a nostalgic-looking Flash or Grunt I'd probably be down for those, too. And definitely the different Cobra troopers, Vipers, etc.

Dammit... there goes the $$$ :lol

Here's where things get really scary: Some of the characters (like, say Snow Job) just scream for 1:6 vehicles. :google

Visor'd Snake Eyes will always have a special place in my heart since he was my favorite action figure of my childhood. I'm actually tempted to buy two SS Snake Eyes, one to pose and one to just keep preserved MIB. I've never done that with a SS item before.

As for future figures I'll buy everything 82-85 and cherry pick the rest.

The Mike
06-03-2008, 02:19 PM
Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander on the only two that I'd buy multiple figures of. Everyone else I'll just be waiting on my favorite look to be released and go that route. I have a feeling with as many variations from ARAH that were there over the years for some characters we'll get a good number of SDCC exclusives out of this line.

Yeah, I would kill for that in 1:6. The H.I.S.S. is not all that big; it's not much bigger than a HumVee, and I've seen those in 1:6. Too bad Hot Toys is not on this license or we might very well get it.

He looks closer to the 3 3/4" figure than I thought they'd get. That makes me happy. Now bring on the baddies. Cobra officers and troops. Crimson guards. Cobra Commander and Definitely Destro.

Give me a Zartan with color changing skin and I'll be in heaven.

I can't imagine what they'd use as an EX piece for any of the Joe figures.

The wolf for Snake Eyes? I don't know. I figured that would be a standard item.

Thats much too big an accessory to assume as a standard item.

Salacious Crumb wasn't even a standard item for Jabba.

Its more likely a extra $ exclusive like the Mynock or a seperate accessory pack altogether.

Now, Polly coming standard with Shipwreck seems reasonable.

As for other exclusives, I think additional weapons always works.

Another idea I think would be cool for exclusives would be special display stands that could be puzzled together to eventually say GIJOE and COBRA.

Really? I don't think it's that big. I think it's an essential part of Snake Eyes as a figure but that's just me.

Additional weapons would be cool. What about including nice looking, old school style bio cards as the EX? I'd be down with that. Something a little larger that you could actually display next to the figure.

He's essential to completing the '85 look so I hope they offer him somehow. If they don't it won't be the end of the world. My favorite comic issues (of even '85 Snake Eyes) didn't include the wolf.

I expect it to go up tomorrow. We did get the "offical" preview last week, which 99.99% of the time means an order within a week. Since there isn't a schedueled PPO for this already, I assume it will just be up with the newsletter with a TBD size on the exclusive.

Captain Faramir

Even for a G. I. Joe, Snake Eyes is unusually well-armed. Most others have a few token weapons and all, but Snake Eye's character is built around his massive store of weapons and his truck-loads of stuff. I doubt many others will be so tremendously equipped. For example, Cobra Commander needs maybe a few pistols and guns, but that's it - no tactical vests, blades, etc. The others will likely not be so pricey.

I'm hoping it's the classic masked version of Stormshadow. Didn't the hooded one have some kind of grey cammo pattern on it? Classic would be best and judging from Snake Eyes, I would think classic would come first.

What would be really cool is if Snake Eyes and Stormshadow both had their matching tattoos on their forearms.

Trust you...nah...

As far as Hot Toys and Medicom...yes they were always higher priced -and alot can argue over-priced.

One of the reasons Sideshow has grown to the level it has is due to the fact that they provided an alternative to people who wanted cool looking figures at an affordable price.

Alot of the folks on this board, yourself included, are fans of the company and will buy whatever comes out and find a way to justify the price. For the majority of people outside of these boards the increase in figures prices will be too much.

Sideshow needs to decide, and I think they have sadly, if they want to be the company that got them to the place they are now OR an overpriced company like Hot Toys and Medicom that only attracts the fanatical collector.

http://www.alteregocomics.com/store/catalog/Snake_Eyes_12_Inch_Figure-p-5069.html

Which turns out to be a mere $5 savings when you factor in the rewards points lost by purchasing through a dealer. I think the extra punching dagger (which admittedly isn't that spectacular) and SS's first class customer service is worth the extra five bucks. :)

It's the Promethius.

So unlike the Buck, the Prometheus doesn't have nipples?

It's a shame about the price. I may pick up Storm Shadow if he is great but for the price this may be the only one I buy.

Isn't this version of Snake Eyes the version 2 costume? The original had goggles if memory serves, not the visor.

I knew with the Hot Toys designed body that prices would increase, so I kind of braced myself for the price hike. Hot Toys stuff may be overpriced to you but I think their quality more than makes up for the added cost. I actually found myself buying less Sideshow product towards the end of the Buck because the body sucked, so I'm really looking forward to getting some of the new Prometheus stuff.

I don't think 1/6 collecting was ever a hobby for the frugal, to be honest. Of course it sucks that it just gets progressively more expensive to collect, but what hobby hasn't?

Storm Shadow needs to be the 84 Cobra Ninja version.

Ignite's can also be converted to him as well:

Snakeyes
Cobra Comander
Stormshadow
Firefly

I would be fine if those are the first 4.

Firefly alone could own even this incredible Snake Eyes.

Another poster at a Joe board broke the pricing down for this, Hadn't thought of it this way and it just makes this price even more insane.

$120 for a 12" figure

that is $10 an inch.

That = pure craziness.

Would you pay $10 for this inch worth...

...from what I've seen at places that sell accessories and on eBay, people pay a lot more than a mere $10 for accessories of this quality... so yes, I would pay $10 an inch for this figure.

Hmm, by that valuation formula a 10 mm diamond at $10,000 is WAY over priced!

hey man, if you have that much money to spend per inch of a figure knock yourself out. The fact is that the majority of people do not. I don't see where silver paint and stitching is worth $10 an inch, but if you do have fun.

These figures aren't made for the majority. Hence the fact that they have Edition Sizes. And the "per square inch" argument is ridiculous. People have been paying almost $300 per square inch for vintage Snake Eyes figures for years.

i think he is priced quite fairly. cant speak for anybody else but i am honored to pay SS $120 for this definative version of Snake-Eyes.

tomandshell

It's a high price tag for a 12" figure, for those (like me) who stick with Sideshow and don't get into the Medicom figures, for example. This is a new record high price tag for a Sideshow 12" figure, unless I am forgetting something.

But in this case, I don't think that it's unjustly high. I can see enough quality and detail on this one to justify the price. They seem to be setting the quality bar higher with figures like this and Clone Obi-Wan. If the ES on the Snake Eyes exclusive is low enough and the line takes off down the road, I can see people paying more than $120 on the secondary market. So if you are really gung ho about the license, the quality of the figure is pretty clear and I say that getting it now at full MSRP isn't a bad idea.

I completely agree with you.

I was shocked to see the price, but then I looked at the figure and the freakin' long ass list of accessories!!! Looks to be somewhere between 30-35 accessories (if you count the hand/boot pairs, the individual grenades/magazines, etc.). I love the inclusion of sculpted alternate boots that take bent toes into account, and this figure looks to be of the highest quality.

I'm not a GI Joe fan, but Snake Eyes always looked cool and Sideshow's take on it is just too freakin' beautiful to pass up.

Yeah, it'll suck if the major armored Star Wars figures hover around this price, but if their quality and accessories match Snake Eyes, then I'll be cool with it in the end.

Its funny that every time a SW figure goes up $5.00 there's weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. Then the first GI Joe figure is announced at $120 and the majority of reactions are "Damn, that's actually badass enough to be worth it." Even non-fans are not only loving this figure but willing to pay the price. :rock

I don't see why that would be strange. It is a basic truth that the Snake Eyes figure is obviously a much more complex figure in every way except portrait. Snake Eyes has the Prometheus body and 5,637,402 accessories. The accessories are almost all VERY complex. It seems to me to be simple common sense that, relatively speaking, if ROTS Obi-Wan Kenobi is a good value at 50.00, that Snake Eyes has comprable value at the higher price point. But then we have Aayla Secura at 70.00. And I don't see a 20.00 value increase from Obi-Wan to Aayla...nor do I see a value increase from Obi-Wan at 50.00 to Qui-Gon Jinn at 65.00 (edit - oops...55.00) (edit 2 - OK QGJ was 50.00, I'll Use ANH Obi-Wan at 60.00 to make the same point).

I do not complain about the prices...but the issue is legitimate and can be seen if a person cares to look in to it.
