I don't think SH is bad at all.
It has the right atmosphere, great visuals and good cast.
The plot was messed a lil and designs weren't true to the source but I couldn't expect less from US adaptation of the Japanese art.

I do like the movie, don't get me wrong. It's just kinda bad. I wouldn't call it a guilty pleasure, because I don't feel guilty liking it.

And I've been so burnt out on crappy horror movies that I forgot some of my favorites, which were mentioned here.

Drag me to Hell, Rec(still the scariest movie i'v ever seen), Dawn of the Dead, and of course, Trick r Treat.

I forgot to add VHS in there. I loved VHS. I liked Cabin in the Woods but something about VHS (besides the obvious plothole of footage somehow coverted to VHS tapes)

I saw Drag Me to Hell, and honestly I thought it was boring, I don't even remember much of it anymore.

I havent seen most of the movies on that list, so I had to go with 28DL (almost) by default. Alot of the newer Horror movies don't appeal to me cause they seem more like Gore Porn than actual Horror.

Off the top of my head, my Favorite Horror movies are The Shining, Angel Heart, Jacob's Ladder, Alien, Dawn of the Dead, Rosemary's Baby and the 70's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I remember seeing the dog with the human head from IOTBS when I was 10 and it scared the hell out of me, couldn't sleep properly for nights.

I'm sure I forgot some and will have to amend later, but those are the kind of horror movies I like.

Sadly, really good horror movies are few and far between, in my experience at least.

Evil Dead (2013)
Maniac (2013)

Probably top 2 horror/slasher movies I've watched in the past decade.
Candyman still holds strong for me after all these years.

Drag Me to Hell was a good movie but it wasn't scary for me, Like it felt like a drama about a vengeful person more than anything.

I liked it but some stuff was too gross for the sake of being gross.

Drag Me To Hell was clearly a comedy. That movie was hilarious.

Maniac 2012 was entertaining. Great effects.

Scariest movie I have ever seen in a theater a Japanese movie called

"Audition"

Directed by Takashi Miike.

all of us that went were scared for weeks and weeks after it. And about 1/2 the theater left including 2 of our group of friends because they were too freaked out. To this day when we bring it up we all remember that experience. I think the old uncomfortable theater we saw it in enhanced the experience

Audition is a hell of a ride... Worth the watch for sure.
And This poll was the first one to really make me think haha.

Cabin in the woods was fairly original in its own ways, but I had to go with House of a 1000 corpses.

If I can watch a movies 20+ times and not be bored any of those times then it's a hell of a movie. Gory, decent music, good characters, fight scenes, creepy *** characters. It pretty much had it all for me. Though I will give it up to the new Evil dead.

It was not so much a remake, but a re imagining. I loved it all. No spoilers, but if you have been on the fence about watching it I say just give it a chance.
