Also do games reviewing when i get the chance, or whena game comes to me, I have played some crap games lately! But then sell them on and that helps to pay for my statues, also selling anything thats not used around the house since xmas has gone straight on there, paid about £3000 of my car off though!

Re: what do you do?

This is all so fascinating! I am amazed at the variety of roles people engage in to "make their living". I wish I could ask each of you more about what you do, how you do it, and what you'd LIKE to be doing. (I'm thinking how fabulous it would be if, as many as can swing it, we meet at next year's SDCC so we can do this all in person! I've already started prepping my husband for my "vacation" to San Diego next July!)

I am happy being "retired", but I miss the interaction with my co-workers. The mental stimulation of my position more than made up for any mundane activities I may have had to do (although I was always busy with huge project for my clients, and rarely was any of it mundane!). But it's interesting to read how many people have held (and intend to hold) disparate roles (jobs) during their life.

My friends and I are always asking each other "What do you want to be when YOU grow up?" :rollin

...Landscape Architect Associate for a very large County...
I help design parks / trails. :sleep

As you may have seen from the "Lets see you.." post I work at a library

I really enjoy working with the customers (well most of them, most of the time :thwak )

Most of my work involves PCs, as im heavily involved in Learn Direct which offers anyone the chance to learn how to use a computer so I do a lot of "coaching", I also design posters/leaflets etc for my area,
oh and I read books occassionally too! :lol

Great thread!

I qualified as a Pharmacist in 1997 and specialised in hospital pharmacy. This was not for me so I then worked in drug research for a few years, but was not satified with that. lol

So, in 2000, I quit pharmacy for good and went back to Uni and got my Masters in IT. I am now a Technical Systems Analyst/Architect for a unique IT Provider. My work mostly involves designing and maintaining company systems and networks.

Love my work now and do not dread going to work anymore. Well, most days! lol

This is such a great thread.

Hey VTX, which paper mill ? I father just left one @ the begining of the year ( wonderful out sourcing :thwak )

But I miss working on those big steam lines ~ nothing like trying to undo what 200 pds of heat and pressure have created off a 20 ft ladder with 48"s & persuders :lol

:dance

I am a sales account manager at Sun Microsystems selling
to Nortel Networks.....we basically embed our computers into Nortel's telco equipment who then sells to service providers all around the world.

Great thread idea! :rock

I work with my fiance in our own IT consulting business. The type of consulting work we provide is Usability Consulting.

Basically, we design interfaces that are 'user-friendly' for large organisations - the ones that can afford our day rate :p

Business is going very well, we've been extremely busy lately - hence my absense on the boards for a while.

Any other IT professionals looking to do a bit of networking? :yay :| :rollin

jobs

I'm a civilian Dept. of Army Administrative/Operations Officer. Organization consists of both military and civilian operations research and system analysts and engineers. Fascinating stuff....and I don't understand any of the actual things they do. :\ But the people I work with are highly educated, intelligent (for the most part), and have a wide range of interesting backgrounds and experiences. It's oftentimes hectic and frustrating, but I truly enjoy it.

I also do theatre in my off hours -- acting and directing -- sometimes I get lucky and get paid a coupla dollars for it. Been at it over 30 years. And occasionally, I'll take on private tutoring of novice actors. That's the most fulfilling part, I think.

Re: jobs

Bump... it was about to fall off page 20 and be lost for ever...

Thought some of our new arrivals may be interested in this one. :wave

Here's What I Do

Quarr, Awesome Post. Because people love to talk about themselves. LOL. :b

I run a computer company located in Brooklyn New York. I've been doing this for about 20 years overall, but owned my company since 1987. I started when I was 19.

In the last 2 years, I ventured out and started selling collectibles. Mainly Living Dead Dolls. I have a great partner named Joann who helps me with the Living Dead Dolls. Since then, I've branched out into about 10 different collectible & toy lines.

Most Recently, I've ventured into a brand new business. Well maybe not for me because it has to do with computers. It's an Internet Cafe. I have a partner in this new venture. This place was an existing Internet Cafe which is one of the nicest Cafe places in Brooklyn. The original owner put over 250K into it. It should be a great source of extra income and broaden my overall business experiences. Besides, it has a full kitchen so now I get free food !!!

If you want to see the place, it has a kick a$$ website which we now own as well. I will post the link.

Anyway, I'm Married. No Children Yet. Constantly Practicing.
:mwaha :mwaha :mwaha

Time is scarce for myself because I have so many things going on.

I am a workaholic, love people and try to go on vacation at least once a year.

My finest moment will be when my wife and I have a child.

Anyway, that's the scoop.

Mike

Re: Here's What I Do

Congrats on the new business venture.. Computers was a smart thing to get into such a long time ago.. Great foresight..

Re: Here's What I Do

Almost missed this thread, thanks for the bump.

I am a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Spent 7 years in the Navy as a Corpsman and I have a Business degree. Odd combo, but I am pretty happy where I ended up.

Re: Here's What I Do

This is now a PermaThread, right? It CAN'T get lost, can it? (At least until a mod "loses" it, yeah?) :b

Re: Here's What I Do

I work for an unnamed Commonwealth doing Revenue Forecasting work. This leads to much sitting around and surfing on the internet. I also have spare time to work on my website Toytoons.com (shameless plug) where I review toys and post toy related news.

Out of the 2 jobs, I enjoy my site...but it just doesn't pay the bills. Unfortunate....

Re: Here's What I Do

Speaking as a Mod who once lost the site owners favorite thread...... yeah we can loose things :rolleyes

I am an out of work slacker
Although currently I am working a reseraunt to bring in the cash. I intend to be gainfully employed by a fellow wetaholic sometime soon

re: here's what I do

I am a Pateint Services Coordinator on a physical rehab floor of our ctiy hospital. Been there almost seven years. I am, also, a domestic engineer (lol).:dance

Re: re: here's what I do

Well, besides collecting, I am a Network Administrator (and database admin, and email admin, and... well, you get the picture) for a company that maps, drafts and designs cable TV systems for the big MSOs (Multi System Operators) like Time Warner, Cox, Comcast, etc.

I have been in this position for almost ten years, and before that, I was a mapper out in the field for 15 years. I got to travel all over the country doing that, and I kind of miss it these days.

:wave :yay :wave

Re: re: here's what I do

I'm a photojournalist for two small suburban newspapers that are owned by Pulitzer. I've been there for a little over a year. Before that, I spent several years parking cars for a couple of restuarants in the area.

For anyone interested, some highlights are at my website:
