Agreed with much of the freaks, TDK, Skyfall, Matrix, Blade Runner, Batman 89, SFII animated movie, also I did enjoy a lot the Quantum of Solace intro.

The dark night,in the opening 6 minutes it introduces the joker so perfectly.you get the explination why he wears makeup,you see his sadistic side when he kills his whole crew and lies to his henchmen about how many shots were fired and his opening line "whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you .....stranger"is one of my favorite in the movie.no other opening scene has got me that excited to see what the character will do next. My numero dose opening scene would have to be expendables 2,I actually think it hurt the movie in a way cause it was so good the rest of the movie I was waiting for the action to be as good or hbetter than the opening scene and imo they never got there.that being said it was one of the most a%# kicking scenes in a movie I ever saw.non stop for the first 10 to 20 minutes.I would like to know the total body count. And my 3rd is a tough one but I would have to say iron man 2,when tony jumps from the plane and lands on the gantry with the dancers and acdc,its a perfect tony stark portrayal in my eyes.

The beginning of the film is like a pefect little Pixar short. The rest of the movie seems tacked on.

Up isn't a bad movie. It's two movies. The first movie is about ten minutes long and better than the second part.

I almost listed it, but I don't think of 2001 as having an opening scene. It's the first third of the film.

That said, yes it's a classic. The Oscar for best makeup went to Planet of the Apes that year because the oscar voters thought Kubrick used real apes.

Indeed, I didn't list it because it actually is the first third of the movie... unless you're just counting the "Also Sprach Zarathustra" intro and the alignment of the planets. In which case I'd have to agree!

I love the opening of The Two Towers. I was so excited to see that movie and the opening shots were beautiful as the camera flew over the snowy mountains and the audience was back in Middle-Earth. Then you begin to hear faint voices and realize we're back in Moria in the middle of the first film. But this time, when Gandalf drops, we get to follow him down as he reclaims his sword and fights the Balrog. It was a fun way to start the movie.

I always loved the beginning of Die Hard 3, with the song "Summer in the City". First you get those opening notes and bangs that coincide with the title coming in from the sides. Then the song abruptly stops midway through because of the explosion at the department store. Awesome.

First scene of Kill Bill was amazing. I jumped about three feet when that shot went off.

Once Upon a Time in the West was great too, but I like A Fistful of Dollars more (if you count everything up to them making fun of his horse).

I think my favorite opening sequence might be Coppola's Dracula. Not sure why.

Best part of the movie. Reminds me of a similar opening, in that it outshone the rest of the film. Machete. Brilliant, right up until the girl schlucks the cell phone out of her cooch. It was all downhill from there.

Star Wars - obviously
Once Upon A Time In The West - one of the first times i saw a film (and i saw this at a repertory cinema) and realized the power great filmmaking can have
Blade Runner - unbelievably atmospheric and that music!!!
Touch Of Evil - the first time i really noticed a single take shot
Jaws - soo iconic. Again, the music!
Raiders - first time, ten years old and the greatest thing i had seen
Goldfinger - ripped off by True Lies lol
Millers Crossing - first time i noticed the power of dialogue
Inglorious Basterds - see above
Saving Private Ryan - just pummels you into submission
Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers - someone said above and I agree, it was so exciting going into the mountain and seeing that fight
Scream - there would be few people who have seen this and not know how that opening scene goes down
Up - makes me cry every time
The Social Network - again the power of people just talking
Spectre - not a fan of this film but i fan of this opening
The Terminator - again probably ripped off from other films, but always loved the flash forward aspect of this
The Thing - has this one been mentioned? Such a simple, mysterious way to open. And with that brooding Carpenteresque Ennio Morricone score.

Quick fix it was actually probably the first Godfather where I realized how effective a quiet dialogue driven first scene could be.
