Most that I can think of off the top of my head have been mentioned.

Iron Man opening I really liked.

Though this is a tv show, but the opening of The Walking Dead.

28 Days Later is a movie. I remember the beginning being almost identical to The Walking Dead. Guy wakes up from a coma ... zombies.

Maybe there was a scene before that on 28 Days Later, though.

I thought the opening scene was when Rick was a sheriff and he came across the little girl and shot her.

Yeah ... I guess you're right. I remember the scene with the little girl. I don't remember when it happened, though. The non-zombie shootout scene may have been before the coma as well.

I guess I need to watch the first episode again.

Although only one of those intros shows male genitalia. Whether that makes it better or worse is a judgement call, though.

Best openings (off the top of my head) have got to be...

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

The scene that introduces to cinema's greatest franchise. Not many movies would throw the audience into a space battle immediately, but Star Wars does it with style. Oh, and the reveal of the HUGE Star Destroyer is so iconic

Casino Royale

The film noir-esque black and white opening, the calm and intimidating interrogation, the high octane brawl in the bathroom, his first two kills, the Gun Barrel (turn, aim, BANG)... 007 is re-born

Jaws

A few minutes of terror created by incredible cinematography, music, and editing... and the suggestion of something lurking below the surface

Raiders of the Lost Ark

The calm, cool, and collected draw back and crack of the now famous whip, the image of the equally famous fedora silhouette, and the sun light revealing the face of cinema's greatest adventurer

Great films/openings!

Here's another classic: Rollerball
Bach's Fugue over the entire preparations for the game is amazing. Sets the tone for the glorification of violence as entertainment for the masses.
Couldn't find just the opening, but what the hell, watch the entire movie, you won't be disappointed!

When I read the title, 'Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie' popped in my head. Ryu vs Sagat right off the bat. Good times.

Am I really the first person to be saying

2001: A Space Odyssey

?

I almost listed it, but I don't think of 2001 as having an opening scene. It's the first third of the film.

That said, yes it's a classic. The Oscar for best makeup went to Planet of the Apes that year because the oscar voters thought Kubrick used real apes.

Gotta make an exception for Kubrick though. :wink1:

Couple of them among many:

P.S.: Feeling too lazy to write down why :)

P.P.S.: The Watchmen till the opening credits roll, till The Times They Are A-Changin' plays, awesome!

Few for me...

Transformers: The Movie (animated)
Just nothing else like it when Unicron arrives & devours the planet just awesome!!

Dawn of the Dead (1978)
When the police are trying to take the building & you see the TV studio when they are trying to debate the issue & what's caused the outbreak

28 Days Later
When Cillian Murphy wakes up in Hospital & walks around a frankly scary deserted & still London.
Nothing in memory hit me like the feeling of being alone there, it's just so well shot.

Up
Like most this is just brilliant, brings a tear to my eye every time I see it.

Akira.
The music, the lights, the boy & his father running through the streets before the dad being gunned down & then THAT motorcycle ride...simply stunning & WAY ahead of it's time

Fist of the North Star (Anime version not the godawful Live Action mess)
Just so well done with the nuclear explosion & fall out with people being torn up & then the scene between Ken & Shin for Julia when Shin leaves Ken for dead is still pretty good.

There are more but those are the few I can remember right now.
