Well oil is cheap again, so where are those $49.99 figures?

Deflation (look it up)

Is coming to a theater near you... and that is not necessarily a good thing...

That's just it, though. The only figure you've "seen"...

Have you been keeping an eye on the 1/6 Indy threads? The vaunted Prometheus apparently ain't all it's cracked up to be.

I don't recall the Prometheus being hailed as anything more than a new body to look forward to.

The only people I ever noticed comparing it to Hot Toys or Medicom were the people worried that Sideshow would now be making figures with a body that wouldn't be the whipping post that the Buck was. I know SS fans hoped it would turn out that way, but the Prometheus was never the sole reason Snake Eyes was hailed as being a higher-end figure. The quality and quantity of accessories is what sold Snake Eyes. The fact that he wasn't on the Buck (and looked like he wasn't) was just the coup de grace.

Probably because the 12" SW figures were the first to see 20-40% overnight price hikes.

Yet the PFs have not. Hurm....

And :lol at the notion of Sideshow 1:6 being "HT-quality".

Actually, the PF have gone up by $50-$80

$49.99!? I remember when Sideshow figures were $20-$40 :

Sure Oil prices are down now, but who in their right mind thinks Oil prices won't be just as high or even higher next Summer?
The closing of factories in China and the growing middle class over there is also a major factor.

And the standard of Sideshow figures has risen slowly but not by much. Hot Toys' standard was pretty low a few years ago and have risen to the very top in a short period of time. I think Sideshow could do the same if they try, don't count them out.
