What I am trying to say is that Universal could have filmed parts of it in IMAX or made it so this film could be shown in IMAXs. The fact that it cannot sucks IMO. I was hoping to see it on an IMAX screen. I only have one IMAX in my area and they only show stuff for kids all of the time.

While TDK's IMAX scenes were amazing, there wasnt anything stylized about it. The Wolfman looks very stylized. It would not have mixed with the style they chose. Since IMAX cameras cant do those wacky camera angles.

I seriously dont understand why you would even think they would've filmed it in IMAX. Only two films ever, in the history of movies has ever had scenes shot with an IMAX camera. Nolan will keep making the tech work, but for now, shooting a full IMAX film is next to impossible. It's very difficult, and expensive.

Sorry, it's just weird and silly you're going at the film for something that was never going to happen anyway.

Picture and Sound is much better in IMAXs IMO.

Also, normal movies, upconverted into IMAX sound just as good.


And I forgot to mention, if they did film it in IMAX, the movie would've had to have come out in the summer...or later. Avatar is booked until April, and then after that, Alice In Wonderland. It wouldnt've been in IMAX anyway.

I'm a member of the Classic Horror Film Board, and most of the hardcore Universal Monster fans there seem to love it. Including me. Sure, you may not appreciate the gore, but the gothic horror genre is a dying breed, and new, quality entries are few and far between.

The Universal Monsters still have the potential to be just as frightening and relevant as horror's more modern icons, but the biggest thing seperating the two isn't the gore - it's the tragedy and story. That's why characters like Frankenstein and Dracula have endured hundreds of years. At the same time, characters like them and The Wolf Man are inherently violent; so for a film to stay true to their stories in this day and age, that aspect is understandably emphasized.

IMO, fans of these classic monsters should support films like THE WOLFMAN, so that these characters can remain in the public's eye and remain popular for generations to come. If you don't end up liking it, you don't like it, but bad reviews shouldn't deter you since horror has NEVER been a hit with critics. This is a film by fans for the fans. It would be a shame for it to fail at the box office only to get the umpteeth slasher remake or torture porn flick, in the future.

I don't mind gore and violence - I just prefer it to be served with class.

I agree 100% and I was not about to let something like RT determine whether I was going to see this film or not. I did not go with high expectations and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the gothic look and feel, and while there were certainly areas of the film that could have been improved upon, overall I thought it was terrific. Personally, I preferred this to the original and would put it in the same category as two of my favorite modern horror movies, John Carpenter's The Thing, and An American Werewolf in London.

Never having viewed a film in i-max...what's all the hubbub, bub?

I am not a fan of IMAX. Many people feel it enhances the viewing experience, I personally feel (at certain times) it destroys the experience. The sound/volume levels are too intense and the screen is extraordinarily large and on your face. I'm all for earth rumbling low frequencies (when the TRex walks) but IMAX is over the top. This is coming from an audiophile, who truly appreciates hi-fi audio equip. I also appreciate huge high quality TV screens and displays but at times tHe IMAX visual experience is a bit overwhelming.

you know , you can always seat in the first row and the screen will look as big as IMAX .. the movie is 5 stars in my opinion

I knew this movie was coming two Halloweens ago when I went to the Universal Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights and saw the teaser on the tram ride. Looooooooooong wait to finally see it, but it didn't disappoint. I always thought the original Wolfman was the weekest movie of the classic Universal Monsters, but this one is definitely the best of their remakes. Rick Baker's Wolfman is amazing. I prefer the Werewolf (mostly dog) version of Lycanthropes, but this Wolfman is awesome. And there wasn't any of that stupid CG super long dropped jaw screaming bull____ they filled the Mummy movies with.

Only thing that would have made this movie better is if it had actually come out during Halloween. WTF can't good monster movies come out in October anyway? Valentine's Day is better?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I never thought the original was anything special, and I honestly don't think it's in the same league as some of the other UM originals. I agree, Baker did a great job on the Wolfman...here's hoping we get a SS PF!

IMAX is only good if you like getting migraines from sublexations brought on by cranking the neck at extreme angles to watch a film, like having action sequences that are half-frame and closer blurred due to being stretched (if not shot in IMAX) and sitting in seats so small they make the basket kiddie swings look roomy.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I never thought the original was anything special, and I honestly don't think it's in the same league as some of the other UM originals.

Saw it last night and loved it. Got a free ticket with my Regal card, so I'll definitely be going again in two weeks when I can use the pass. Highly recommended.

I have to say that after all the drama and crap this movie went through I think it ended up being a very good werewolf movie.
Not modern day, check. Gothic look and feel, check. Gore, blood, and violence, check. Blood glistening in the moonlight, check. Hugo was awesome, Del Toro was great, my only complaint was Hopkins. He seemed to phone it in a little bit. The look and transformations was really cool looking. If your a fan of horror and not to uptight about remakes this is a definate recommended.

As far as depth is concerned the Wolfman and Bride of Frankestein (followed very closely by Frankenstein) always had the most impact on me; I suppose that's why the radical story changes somewhat disappoint me. The end really sounds like The Hulk all over again.

You do realize the original was probably deemed just as "brutal" in its day as youre worried about the new one being today dont you?
luckily those movie goers ignored all the carrier-pigeoned reviews warning them of the satanic movie in theaters and went and enjoyed a wonderful film! ... .. git to da mooooveeezz ya panzeeee!!!!!!

Hmmm...wasnt that good. No character development, bearly a plot, I dont even know what Hugo Weaving's character's name was.....

But...when it was good, it was ____ing good. The violence was amazing. Wolfman looked amazing too. And the end battle was kickass...

Caught this yesterday and ended up taking my father to see it this morning. We both loved it!

Saw it and liked it a lot. I don't think I loved it, but I really, *really* liked it. Benicio Del Toro was fantastic and nailed the tortured look of Talbot, but completely ignored Larry's flirty / playboy side. It worked for this film given the circumstances.

Looking at this film as a "re-imagining" rather than a "remake", the only complaint I have is:

how everybody already seems to know about and accepts the idea of a werewolf before Larry transforms even once! I mean, they were calling for his head before he even did anything! wtf?

Thinking a little more about it, I might have one more complaint, it's not a biggie, but it's a complaint nonetheless:

There were a lot of deaths, but none of them seemed to effect Larry in the least. I wish they explored Talbot's emotions regarding slaughtering dozens in a night a bit more.

Once I started watching the film as a re-imagining rather than a remake, I really enjoyed the things that were changed from the original. I won't go into details, but I think it was a decent story.

Outside of the story, the make-up is worth the price of admission alone. Especially at the end when we get some close-ups of Benicio. He looks ferocious, but he also looks like Benicio (*and* keeps that signature "Wolf Man" rather than werewolf look).

Overall, I'm super happy with how it turned out. I think it could've been a bit longer. It's not the movie I would've made, but it's a good movie nonetheless.

I have one more complaint, now that I think of it, and it's a rather big one:

I couldn't take my son thanks to the R rating. I don't think this film needed the gore that necessitated the R, and it cost them at least one ticket sale.

So, i went to the movies tonight expecting to see VALENTINES DAY, i got there a little late and it was all sold out.

The only other movie playing at the same time was the WOLFMAN! ! ! !

I really enjoyed the film. The setting was dark and similar to Burton's Sleepy Hollow. A bunch of good scares and a handful of brutal killing scenes. I will def purchase this film on BLU RAY.

I recommend this film to fans of the genre.
