I didn't mind Maz Kanata stuff but the freighter scene didn't fit....perhaps as you mention too Trekkie

This is what I was thinking the whole time, but it did showcase Han As Scoundrel and I can accept it. I also think it was a smart move because my Star Wars Hating Girlfriend enjoyed it. The Rathtars(?) were my least favourite element but my girlfriend thought they were great. If she was won over, the filmmakers did their job.

It needs to be for everyone, not just us Nerdcore fans.

:rotfl. If that scene is the worst the film offers, I too can accept it. Missteps happen.....

So who is Snoke really? Is it Palpatine?

It could be anyone thought i would put my life on it not being Palpatine. Plagueis is a popular theory. If you listen to Snoke's theme it's eerily similar to Plagueis the wise theme from ROTS.

Really hoping Hot Toys adds a light saber to Ray's accessories.

It's odd that they didn't include it. Her figure deserves to have it far more than Finn's.

This was hilarious!!! Joffrey 2.0 had me! Lol

Seriously contemplating purchasing Kylo after seeing the movie. I will hold off on Rey for the next version. HT is just putting out too much stuff too fast for me to keep up. Really have to pick my battles.

Seeing the movie did not change what I planned to get. I have the regular throoper and squad leader. I want the officer now because of the red pauldron. I will get phasma and Kylo. General Hux I will get if Hot Toys make the head and neck one piece. Unsightly head neck joint will mean pass.

It's the opposite for me - I really want to get Rey (by far my favourite character) but given that some of Kylo Ren's most pivotal scenes involve him having his mask off (so bridge/ face turned out to be a thing after all!) I'd feel like I was only buying half a figure if I got the first version. I'll wait for the one with the Adam Driver HS and Vader mask and hope you don't have to buy it with a torture chair.

Ben-Ren with Driver HS, Vader mask and torture chair would be awesome!

I'm of the opposite opinion. That kind of exposition would have felt very forced to me, and I like the feeling of joining events as they unfold without knowing the why of everything. That much is very OT Star Wars.

I agree completely. Remember the "What are midicholorians?" conversation in Phantom Menace? I'm not a prequel hater, but the things that bug me are the forced retrospectives and the inclusion of characters for the sake of inclusion (young Boba). What I liked about TFA is that I felt there were many (MANY) parallels to ANH, but they weren't spoon-fed to me or forced...

TFA is a wierd one. Generally the story is all important. With this one I didn't find the story particularly compelling but I still loved the movie because I thought the characters were really appealing and the new principals were great.

I would love to read Michael Arndt's draft which apparently concentrated mostly on the new characters. Given that Poe vanishes soon after the beginning and returns in the end my suspicion is that his part was basically given to Han to give Harrison Ford a much bigger role. He's really charismatic and a great character yet he Ends up more like Wedge than this trilogy's Han.

Yeah seeing this again now that my expectations are in check. Was sad that we barely got any Luke time in this one. But the parallels to ANH and parts of ESB were really obvious. Can't wait to see how VIII deviates. Now that I've had a good nights sleep, I'm ready to comb through this with my eyes haha.

So far I'm in for Kylo and Rey & BB-8, but would seriously consider Finn, Poe, Han, and Luke. Poe ended up being one of my favorite characters and I was surprised by the dynamic with Finn. It was great. I'll wait on Snoke because what would they even pack him with? Miniature Kylo and Hux figs to provide perspective?

I didn't think I'd be this hype for buying TFA figs. Might need to draw the line somewhere. :lol

My own opinion of TFA:

I watched TFA and I have to say it is indeed a good SW movie, and remember I'm a big OT fan. The acting was really fine, Han was great (including solo ;), with Rey and Finn, and with Leia), you can feel Harrison did his best for this role, Rey and Finn totally have the chemistry going, hope we'll see more of Poe Dameron. I also liked Kylo's quite complex character torn between the two worlds, not a powerful Sith, but an unbalanced wannabe baddie who finally chooses his path.

The overall plot was a bit too safe, by following OT (ANH and ESB) steps, but was kind of understandable considering this was the first movie from a new trilogy (or even 2 trilogies, who knows). Special effects were great, but that was to be expected. Waiting to see the next "Death Star" in episode 8.

Phasma and Luke were a bit of a disappointment. Phasma really should have had more going to her, hope she will come back, and Luke in the final scenes was too odd. It would have been ok for a short scene, but it was too long, and became weird.

In the next films we also need to find out and understand how and why Rey has access so fast to the Force, because otherwise it would be weird (Luke's daughter maybe but even so, you know what I mean). I didn't like the scenes with the tentacle monster on Han's ship, it was too forced, and also a bit the way Finn turns against his fellow Stormtroopers, he found his way, but shoots his former colleagues too easily, at least at the beginning.

My personal conclusion: TFA beats the Prequels the same way furry Ewoks beat both the Rebels and the Empire on Endor LOL :p
It is not perfect, but a good start for the new Star Wars.
