Re: Blu-ray wins format war

I am not going to replace my entire DVD collection with BR disc. Do I Really need The Godfather in HD? I love the movie, but some movies warrant HD and others are fine in standard DVD. I'll replace LOTR, Star Wars and other special effects films, but not everything.

Same here, there is no way I am gonna even attempt to try and replace 800 plus DVD on BD:lol

There are a very limited few old DVDs I will replace with BD, like LotR SW Indy and maybe 10-20 others. I am mainly gonna be getting new movies on BD.

Re: Blu-ray wins format war

I can't wait just a couple more days till I get my BD Player. What do you guys suggest if I am just getting the stand alone player and not the PS3?

Re: Blu-ray wins format war

Sorry you're not getting the PS3. How much are you looking to spend?

Cnet.com has their second best Blu-Ray player as the Panasonic DMP-BD30K.

Edit: Info if you are getting a PS3: Get the PS3, as it is the only player at this time that is upgradeable to Blu-Ray 2.0. All the other stand alones are only upgradeable to 1.1. Still rated as the best Blu-Ray player on Cnet.com too.

The guy at Best Buy said if you get a standalone Blu-ray player the picture comes in better since the player is just for BD and not games. Can you notice a difference?

I wouldn't trust anything a best buy sales rep tells you. He probably wants you to buy both the PS3 AND the separate blu-ray player for added commision.

Sorry P!tu. I just can't stand that place. Nothing personal, just corporate greed that get's brainwashed into the employees. But there are always exceptions.

Total crap. The only thing that is gonna affect your picture quality is the TV and the cable you run.

Hell yeah. I love me some BB. Best man store that there is other than going into a dressing room in VS with your woman.

But those asses tried to cheat me like $60 bucks on a 4GB SD card this weekend. I had to pull out my phone and get on their website to show them that the printout I had with me was true. They tried to sell me a line like "Well, the website is constantly change. I can't help you." Total BS. But I did get my SD card on the cheap.

Did they shove a magazine subscription down your throat as well? And the 4 year warranty too.

LOL, no. I'm sure they would have tired, but the cashier was to pissed after dealing with me for like 25 minutes!

And I wasn't even trying to be an ass. I was really polite and than thanked the guy when I left. I just wanted the real price, not the rip-off price they tried to serve me.

I hate BB warrantys!:cuss:cuss:cuss:rotfl

It would be cool to have a PS3 with all the sweet games coming this year. I will think about and maybe go with the PS3.

XBOX 360 TO GET BLUE RAY?
Microsoft looking to switch defunct HD DVD for Sony’s HD system
Posted 03/10/08
Sony Electronics US president has announced that Sony is in talks with Microsoft about offering a Blu-Ray drive for Xbox 360. It’ll be interesting to see if Sony goes through with the offer, since their Playstation 3 console is the Xbox’s main rival and having the winning HD system is a heck of a selling point.

I don't see Sony giving their BR drive to Microsoft...They'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they did.

Oh, they probably will. Do you know how much their license is worth? A crap ton of money!!! Sony will only stand to make more money. The more MS sells their drive with either the console or add-on drive, the more money they get. Win win for Sony. With the HD-DVD movies dead, people will have to buy Blu-Ray for their HD movies. Sony makes a +++++ ton of cash!

WTF!!! I was at work, so I just entered this link from memory. Tried to see if it was valid, but of course it was blocked (= no no @ work). Anyway, I see now it looks like site was taken offline, probably by bestbuy's lawyers. They're worse than Walmart. Sorry for the diversion...

Now, about this blu-ray thing. I for one, am not happy about it. Think about all the other Sony proprietary technoligies that have come and gone: BETA, microdisks (I think was used for audio, same as CDR but smaller with less capacity, "smart" drive/thumbsticks, etc. etc. etc.). Plus, now Sony will own the monopoly. I'd much rather that be a US company. I was hoping the blu/HD war was going to go on for a little longer. But I admit, I knew the end was near for HD when I heard porn was adopting blu-ray as their medium. Porn leads the technological advance more than you'd think...
