Why should people ever stop bashing something they despise on a molecular level? What's the difference? Why is it OK to "praise" something you were pleased with but it's somehow "wrong" to voice your disgust?

This is something I've never understood. Threads like these are often full of people complaining that people are critiquing something over and over. But nobody minds when somebody praises something over and over (rightly so) I really don't see a difference, opinions are just that. It might be time to get over this idea that negative opinions are somehow less relevant that positive opinions. It's easy to ignore posts you don't like. And if the idea is that critical comments ruin it for you. Well maybe there's some truth in those comments as they really shouldn't affect your own otherwise? I don't like this film, I don't mind seeing people enjoy it, it doesn't raise my mood around it...

I think something you and everyone else is missing is how people are completely denying and completely ignoring any faults with the movie.
I think thats what makes some people go extra hard on the hate, the need to feel vindicated or proven right. no one on either side will budge and no one is changing their minds. both sides are firmly posted in their place and wont move an inch.

But when you have people mocking anyone for bringing any problems or making them out to be crazy or stupid for thinking the movie had problems, those people will take that personally or will try to make sure their point is extremely detailed because they are being called out. the superfans are literally, Literally accusing them of being stupid or crazy or that there is something wrong for hating the movie.
then obviously the haters get just as aggresive.

I honestly believe if people talked about this movie from a centrist, more moderate point, it wouldn;t get as bad as it got. it is not just here it is everyhwere.
IVe ever seen any other movie with this kind of blind extreme fan base. ive never seen any other movie where people started to INSULT you just for saying the movie was bad... literally insult you as a person

you HAVE to understand that, im not even defending the haters. I dont care about the movie anymore. I DO come in here to read whats being said or to see if anyone posted any funny pictures. I do come here to see if anything new has been said or any news.

But why do you ignore the aggressiveness and cattiness from some of the super fans? thats the irony. NO Other movie has gotten this response. we ALL love different movies, we ALL are fans of certain movies.
I dont think i never saw people get as nasty about a movie than this one (from BOTH sides)

Fans don’t have to justify what they love....if the love something of course they are going to talk about it....

Trying to convince someone what they like is wrong is the thing that is weird......

And spending massive amounts of time on it....

I totally understand why people who like the film spend time talking about it.

Now, people who like the film trying to convince other to like it is also a waste of time....

I guess it comes down to I cannot understand why people would spend months bashing something they are suppose to hate?

Sounds Masochistic...

You don’t think it would be weird if 8 months from now people were posting in the Infinity War thread about how bad it is?

Yeah, exactly!!! People who enjoy the TLJ are usually talking about why they like it. We liked Luke's story, we like Rey as the new hero, we like the struggles Kylo is going through. And most of us do point of faults we don't like, like the casino scene, Rey's cave scene, and other things. But overall to me I can still love the movie because the good far outweighed the bad for me. Just like the PTs. The acting is what bothers me the most about those, but I absolutely love the stories. And the stories for me outweigh the bad acting. I am not expecting anyone to win Best Actor in a SW movie or Best Director either. I just like the universe, the fun, and the stories.

But its usually when the people who hate on it they start to say very sexist things about the film or call it a SJW movie, or start attacking Kathleen, JJ and Rian for ruining their childhood, or all the crazy conspiracies with Disney, RTs, or whatever, or taking things out of context, and thats what usually sets off the nasty debates.

I don't mind if people didn't like Luke's story or the movie if they give decent reasons why, its just most start hating on it with "conspiracy" talk and yelling at people that they shouldn't like it because they think it sucks, then it just gets ridiculous, and it causes nasty debates.

There are reasons why Rian took Luke in this direction, he's explained them many times. And I like his reasons. If you have compelling reasons what you dislike it, thats totally fine. But they whole "ruined their childhood/conspiracy" mentality is just ridiculous. It all started during the PTs with Lucas, and now anytime people dislike a SW movie, it gets so out of hand with the haters.

I don't take it personally when someone dislikes a movie I like, but its the way they act about it is what bothers me. I guess because I like it, it bothers them too, but i try to be civil about it. If i don't agree I try to them why without personally attacking them. But it usually follows with snide remarks/gifs and bashing me because they think I am too liberal or too feminist. :slap

That is Ostrich Policy in a nutshell tho.
Just because you don't like someone's opinion doesn't mean it's not a fact.

Where are the endless videos of people saying it was good?

You can't list them if they don't exist.

The fact that has only fairly rarely happened speaks louder than any bashing though.:dunno

Exactly.

I think something you and everyone else is missing is how people are completely denying and completely ignoring any faults with the movie.

:goodpost:

The wife comparison is an interesting one.
But, as always with this kind of argument... it's misused to make others look stupid yet only made the user look like imbecile.
(this is a comparison and not an offence, no need to press dat precious report button)

If the wife is a multimedia franchise you love, then... "hating" on a movie is the equivalent of you tellin' someone that you don't like some of wife's habits she picked up recently. It doesn't mean you hate your wife and should fed up on the relationship. :dunno

:exactly:

Everyone complaining about the discussions here, why come in here at all if it just bugs you?

I don't care if someone doesn't like TLJ. That's their opinion and that's fine.

What I don't like is when Freaks state their opinion as if it's fact. It isn't. It's just your opinion.

Exactly. Even the movie is the director's opinion of Luke. Yeah the money had to sign off on it, as long as it makes them more they don't care. They could bring Luke back in 9, and make him an honorable Jedi knight who sees the mistakes of the past and wants to build a different future for the Jedi, instead of leaving him like he was in 8.

That is Ostrich Policy in a nutshell tho.
Just because you don't like someone's opinion doesn't mean it's not a fact.

I like this one. That applies to both sides. Since Lucas created Star Wars, and he wasn't on board with what Disney did, I think we know the maker wasn't happy with it. If that bothers you, it doesn't make it untrue.

Where in my post did I say I don't like one's opinion?
Ummm... right here:

I don't like when Freaks state their opinion as fact.
If someone thinks their opinion is fact then you don't like it.
But it is still an opinion, factual or not.
And, of course, it only applies to negative ones.

By the way...
Code of Conduct said:
... your opinion is not a fact and repeating the same criticism over and over again is unlikely to change anyone else’s mind.
... constantly makin' fun of people with different opinion is the lowest type of criticism.

I think The Last Jedi was meh at best and that's FACT.

Ewoks serving up more than a billion Porgs!

I must confess that it's FACT that The Last Jedi is considered the worse Star Wars movie ever by myself and a LOT of other fans, and that fact upsets the fans who like it.

I want to clarify, whenever I see the abbreviation ST, it's referring to the "sucky trilogy," right?
