Personally I like the nipples. But I don't see them as sexualisation but rather as a little bit cheeky. I hate the modern Harley (especially the Arkham version) and am a big fan of the original Timm look. I think this one nails the mix between innocence (the pose - look at the way the knees are together with the feet turned inwards), psychotic (those crazy eyes and that grin) and yes, the sexy (her figure and choice of skin tight attire, not the nipples) which was from day one rooted in having a character dressed to look at times innocent and others provocative and to act child like one moment and the next the extreme opposite.

Absolutely. But including the nipples is a way of putting a point (

On the internet, there is a direct correlation between the coherence of an argument, and the propensity with which that argument will be glossed over and diminished by the people against whom the argument is directed. So I hope you get a kick out of writing, because the logical quality of posts like this will be lost on most. I'm a fan, though.

I would like to throw my hat into the fans of Devil ring.

IMO, this went off the rails when a poster stated her clothed female form was akin to porn.

CSI, you surprise me. Your normally above getting into these kind of sideways discussions that are clearly meant to inflame.

And I'm debating that there is no reason why they should not be there because the fact that she's both turned on and not wearing anything under her clownsuit is part and parcel of the essence of the character as she is and always has been. Don't conflate my participation in the argument with the nature of the arguments as presented by other participants, thanks.

When another poster tried to tag you as creationist because you were arguing against their necessity, I called him out. Mutual respect would be appreciated (I know, it's a lot to ask).

I do respect your opinion, but disagree with your reference material to support nipples. I absolutely respect your right to like them on the statue I however have a different opinion. I do think the artwork behind Harley demonstrates her sexiness, but IMO do not support the definitive need to have the nipples visible. I still love the statue and bought it, but also absolutely wish it wasn't over the top in that regard.

Suck it up.

Isn't that what your supposed to with nipples :dunno

Personally don't think it was necessary to make that point. I bought the statue in spite of the nipples because they probably aren't visible/noticeable enough to deter from the overall sculpt, but on the flip side not having the nipples there would probably have the exact same effect and not deter from the overall sexiness of the statue. At the end of the day it's probably not worth all the energy people (including myself) are putting into defending/fighting them.

No, the argument is that they're an artistically unessential detail, which is wrong. The statue is a perfect representation of the character as she was originally conceived by her creator in the early 90's, pre-dating the Dodson's work by almost a decade.

My earlier remark was in response to someone else having accused me of being unfamiliar with the comics. I'm actually quite familiar with them.

Hate to break it to you, but you can see the nips popping out on that statue as well.

There are no nipples showing on the Tweeterhead Julie Newmar CW. She is wearing a pointed "bullet"-type bra, which is appropriate for the era from which the show dates. If anything, the ones Newmar wore were actually more extreme than the statue portrays.

But nipples..... no.

I don't remember this much fuss over Vampirellas nipples.

That is because Vampirella is a completely different character, who popped out onto a sheet of paper already 9/10ths naked. Everyone expects this of her.

Like I said earlier, this isn't "ALL NIPPLES MUST BE DESTROYED!!!!!!!!" its more "they're not really appropriate for this character." People are trying to turn this into a cry for censorship with an iron fist on all collectibles by those objecting, and its not.

I really think that SSC felt some sexiness was lacking due to the full body suit. They know sex sells and more people prob like the nipples then dont. Just my opinion of course and I'm not buying her so doesn't matter to me either way. That being said, I prefer her without the nipples although it doesn't really bother me that they pop like that.

NOPE. that's not what was said, and that's all I am going to say in order to not start a flamewar. Anyone feeling the need to accuse me of statements I did not make [such as: "this statue is porn!"] feel free to PM me. Lets keep this off the official forum.

Women have nipples? Lol just kidding don't hurt me. All in all this statue came out pretty much as spot on to the Proto as can be. You can't ask for much more then that. Hope they continue this trend on the DC line!

And this is why mixed media in this instance is a drawback. Some characters do great with mixed media, but in the case of someone wearing a bodysuit with not much other detail, the fabric ends up OBSCURING detail. Had the figure been completely sculpted, we would probably not be having this discussion - because all of the beautiful detail possible with a solid sculpt would be out there for all to see.

That's probably exactly what happened: they put that cloth on her, then it was all "Man, she lacks detail! We gotta do something!" and hence the current contretemps.
