Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

Chronicles of Riddick is an action movie, I leave my brain at the door when I watch action movies. I liked it. I liked the race against the fire on Planet Crematoria, even though it seemed that the fire paused a couple of times. Pretty scary when Riddick shouts "Get moving".

You keep what you kill.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

I wouldn't be interested on those lines. I only buy from one manufacturer for each franchise, and frankly I'm a statue guy, I don't like the mixed media stuff.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

For those of you where the Weta connection is important - if Weta were doing the head sculpts would you be inclined to buy 1/4 scale mixed media figures?

Not to disparage Weta at all, but their strengths lie in monsters, not really in likenesses - look at the Brodie/Black statue from King Kong - it's STILL not their strong suit.

Totally agree there. Look at Legolas and dare I say even Eowyn. Only occasionally do they have great likenesses like Elrond and Boromir statues.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

Actually Olauf did the face sculpt on Boromir.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

Don't know relevance, who is Olauf? If he did Boromir, did he do a not so great face sculpt like Lego?

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

yeah I agree with you dave, the people from Weta really are not that well done. The Character that Jack Black plays that Weta is really bad.

But again, no mixed media for me.

General Grevious and Dr. Doom are as mixed media as I go.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

I agree Dave, WETA don't do human faces well. :doh

But for me, the WETA connection is all about the fact that they did the props/effects for the movie and at the same time - or just after - did the statues & busts etc.

If WETA were to sculpt faces for 1/4 line, I think SS would be doing themselves a dis-service as SS sculptures are much better a facial likeness.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

I don't think I would buy any of it, have spent too much already. I wouldn't want to get hooked on a new line.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

I think I'd rather see SSC make 1/6 figures instead of 1/4. I really LOVE the 1/4 pieces from Star Wars for example, but if you take a look at the pricetag they come with, it would simply mean that I would only be able to afford 1 or 2 pieces in that entire line ever. Its too expensive for me. The 1/6 pieces would let me be able to buy several pieces I'd love to see in that format.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

I wouldn't buy a 1/4 scale line eaither although I would welcome it for the reason that the 1/6 scale statues would hopefully fall in price and then I could pick up the remaining ones for a bargain.

IMO, unlikely to happen and it certainly wouldn't have the same draw as the 1/6 scale line.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

I would definitely buy 1/4 scale figures. Although I'd have to think twice about it if they were $999.99 like the 1/4 Predator. That being said, I most likely would break down and get it anyway. :rolleyes

In regards to a 12" line. I don't really care for that style but it's Lord of the Rings so I would buy it anyway and at $40/$50 a pop, it's not that cost prohibitive. Plus I've already broken the ice with the Buffy line. :p

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

Oluf is a SSC sculptor who helped out on the Boromir likeness. That kind of was the point I was getting at, the SSC sculptors are a bit better at capturing people.

I know there are some statue people that resist the mixed media. But for me it's the ideal format. I prefer the action figures where you can choose the pose, but the Premium Format is quickly winning me over.

I didn't buy very many LotR statues, just because I'm not a "statue guy," but I'd probably have to have anything they did in 1/4 or 1/6 figures.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

After seeing the mixed Media at SDCC I am more impressed by it than I thought. I'm just not sure if LOTR would look good in that format but it probably would. 12" Figures really wouldn't do much for me though I'm sure they would also look good. If they where going to stay in the 12" range which I guess is 1/6th lets just stay with poly statues.

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

The 1/4 scale line would be cost and space prohibitive for most collectors/purchasers.

Forget Toybiz, they are not in the same league as Sideshow or Dragon or BBi in regards to detailed 1/6th scaled action figures. Just look at the detailing found on their Lincoln and Washington figures. Simply amazing.

Sideshow is already developing the 1/6th Star Wars line so they could utilize the same technologies such as bodies to create the LOTR line. (with modifications made for hobbits and dwarves...)

Bring on the 12" action figure line for LOTR. It would allow collectors to pose them as they wish and not be the space hogs that the 1/4" line would be.

Oh, and let's keep the Weta hands out of the headsculpts department... ;)

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

All this talk of 'mixed media' and scale figures and prop replicas etc etc confuses me, so I'll just say I wouldnt buy anything that moves in a doll like fashion! The clothes are always too big and they look silly as a result, but I would buy anything to do with the Mouth Of Sauron and I may get characters Weta didnt do like Faramir and Treebeard. Prop replicas sound good, I like the idea of that.

A 1:1 scale Mouth of Sauron bust!!! Yes!!!

Re: So if SSC got the license for DIFFERENT types of items..

I'm with gOzum. It's great that the artists who made the movies I love so much also made the statues and busts. The faces maybe weren't alway's an carbon copy but they were an artists representation and that is more importent for me.

Maybe, if there were a few statues (no mixed stuf) that are in the same line (and size) as the weta ones I would concider it.
