I actually just got back from seeing this. Wasn't planning on it, but a friend wanted to.
It's on par with the Robocop remake.
As an adaptation of GITS, it sucks. It starts out ok, but when it gets into the story and "the truth" it gets bad. Last third is terrible. Tank sequence was a mockery.
Overall the visuals were good, so at least it didn't feel like a complete waste of time.

Watching the movie for the first time today. Really a boring by-the-numbers effort. Movie looks nice, but Major, as depicted in this movie is so damn mopey, its just not fun.
