OK. From series one, the one I got was SE and Cobra Trooper, and also like Cobra Officer. I had somewhat of an interest in Flash, but the rest of the figures I found boring, especially ZAP. The only reason why I bought the rest of series one was because when series two came out, they had some REALLY interesting characters, and so by then, I decided to get the whole line. I know that Hama's staff came up with some of the GI JOE characters. Dis Hama's team influence series 2, or was that still just Hasbro?

:dunno

I personally didn't follow any characters till the toon came out. I got them because they looked kewl.

Rock n Roll? I didn't know he was in a heavy metal band, I just know he came with a M60 and hand bullet belts across his chest and looked tuff.

Destro? He looked awesome. Gung Ho? Guy running around with a big ass Marine crest tattoo on his chest, had to be a tuff guy.

Snake Eyes? He was just a all black figure and looked kewl, period.

Cobra Commander? He looked awesome. Same with Flash. Same with Stalker. Same with Rip Cord. Same with Blowtorch.

The characters are great yea, but the look, size and articulation is what got my attention.

But that was just me at 8 years old. Funny, still the same today :)

I got series two and one before the cartoon came out, because they looked so cool. I mailed away for the Duke figure. I was so excited I couldn't wait the 6 weeks for delivery. I was very excited when the cartoon came out. I felt like my interest in GI JOE had been somewhat validated. :)

Man.. Sideshow is so kind to reveal a lot of Panel for us today.
Otherwise, I may spend most to the things I just like a bit of this and that. And run out before I know about Baroness PF.

Now I can looking forward to Baroness PF:yess:
Thanks SS.

GI JOE was really only good up to series 6, in 1987. In 1988, with series 7, it went downhill rapidly, until it's eventual demise a few years later. I think GI JOE's Zenith was in 1986, with series 5, with Serpentor. It just held on in 1987 with series 6.

You have good taste in G.I.Joe figures. But I would stop at series 5.

I collected GI Joe figures from 1983-1985. I sold them all in '86 at the start of Junior High. I didn't watch a single cartoon or read a single comic until after that. Every single bit of information I had about my Joes was from their filecards, Christmas catalogs, and nothing else. True story.

I actually rarely played "GI Joe vs. Cobra" though. Usually my friends and I would act out our own versions of scenes from Rambo (SE killed A LOT of bad guys by hiding in mud, under water, etc.), Red Dawn, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Good times.

I collected RAH joes 1982-1986..and few from 87....too bad I sold it all thinking I was growing up and getting out of toys

Never sell your toys. :lecture

I watched the cartoon, but never had access to comics. I think I got one in a birthday party bag once, but a single comic doesn't go very far when you have no way to get more.

I always had issues with the cartoon. If a character acted differently than I expected them to (based on the filecards), my version would rule and the cartoon would not. In particular, I didn't like the cartoon Storm Shadow. I got into a lot of arguments with cartoon fans.

:lecture:lecture:lecture With the exception of a tyrannical raid by my mom who threw out a good many of my Joes, I still have most and never stopped collecting them.

As for the cartoon, I took it for what it was, but never really reflected it's definitive, and in several cases, stereotypical personalities, onto my figures. They pretty much acted out what I read in the comics.

I had one weak moment in high school when a friend offered me some old books (stolen from the special collections section of a pretigious college) for Star Wars figures because his dad threw his out. I was seriously considering it until I presented the offer to my brother, who looked at me like I had just committed the ultimate blasphemy.

That was the last time I considered parting with any of them.

So you didnt trade your for figs for porn mags??:lol

Man as a child I was immediately into GI Joe. I actually remember my mother buying me the first GI Joe toys. I still have them. The motorcycle with the side gun. One of my friend my whole series 1 and some series 2 collection. Damn Bastard.... I collected GI Joe till the 7th grade. At that time I had to have the Cobra hydrofoil and the GI Joe water base and the sting ray. I like how the cartoon mature as we got older. When Duke was shot there was blood in the Joe cartoon. Destro kissing Baroness and messing with Zartan's sister. At the time we was 13 years old and we was justing getting into girls so they put in more mature themes. Serpentor was cool but too over the top. He reminded me of a human galvatron. Do what I say or DIE!!! This line is the best line and Predators are the one that got me into collecting 1/6 figures.

I had a few of the figures from '82 to '85, as I didn't get a regular allowance until I was 10 and had to depend on the largess and generosity of family. Had the complete run of figures from 1986 to 1990, and I picked up two figures from 1991 (redesigned Low Light and Big Ben) before I called it quits, giving all my figures and a good number of vehicles to my youngest brother who was eight years younger than me.

Unfortunately, I learned the OCD collection trait is NOT genetic. He promptly lost / destroyed my entire collection within a year.

I watched the first season of GI Joe a few months back and it totally shot me back to elementary school. I used to watch GI Joe in the mornings while I waited for the school bus.
